Sweet, sweet, oh and uh, SWEET!
|
Flying V's totally rule. I was hoping for this too, but I think its a longshot. All we really know at this point is that you can still use the SGs.
Last time I was at Guitar Center, I noticed all these contest promotion posters with Hendrix and his Flying V on it. All over the store. Yet despite having dozens and dozens of guitars, not one Flying V actually in the store. Hypocrites :p |
That's funny my local GC had a wall full of them....

From the GH website message board...

I can tell you, two of the following are true: 1. Guitar Hero II will be available for Xbox 360. 2. Guitar Hero II will not be available for Xbox 360. 3. I posted this message just to make the thread longer. So, now you know. Not sure what to make of this, but it would be a big mistake not to release this for other consoles - that is, unless they made some sort of exclusivity deal for the PS2. |
The beauty of this game is that, to me anyway, the graphics are completely unimportant. They could release for any and all systems with little extra effort, and I doubt anyone would complain if the 360 version was a direct port of PS2.

I finally cleared guitar hero on expert. I was stuck on cowboys from hell for the longest time.
|
Haha! Congrats!

I still think it's way harder than bark at the moon.

Don't know if this has been posted (I haven't browsed the entire thread) but this is a great article about... well basically... the greatness of Guitar Hero. Really fascinating read.

This game has created a sickness that is spreading like wildfire through my group of friends. One of my friends picked this up two weeks ago. We played it for like 6 hours that night. Last week he brought it over again. Another one of my friends was over, played it twice and went out and bought it the next day. They both brought their guitars over for my 28th birthday this weekend. We started guitar hero at 3:00 in the afternoon. 2 hours later the living room was loaded with about 15 people all waiting for their turns. It was on until about 2 in the morning. We only stopped to eat and play a short game of badminton. I used my Future shop gift cards to pick it up the next morning and two more people who were over the previous night picked it up. I'm a guitar teacher by profession and I've been practicing this more than I've practiced the actual guitar in the last two days.
|
It's the ultimate game. All my female friends, all my friends who don't like rock music, all love this game. On page 3 or 4 of this thread I said I was thinking about buying a ps2 for this game...I did, it's the only ps2 game I own, or plan on owning besides the sequal. And with Primus' "John the Fisherman" confirmed, and them being "in talks" with Tool, plus all the wonderful gameplay improvements, has me crossing off the calendar for the sequal.

3 new tracks have been announced for GHII...
Anthrax - Madhouse Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil |
someone wake me when they finally put this out for the xbox/360 :)

We are building a new entertainment center this week, with a special-sized cabinet specifically made to hold our Guitar Hero guitars. I doubt I'll ever get rid of my PS2. |

It's been rumored that it will be coming out for the 360. It'd be Guitar Hero 2 or 3, though.
I got this for my birthday and I don't think I've made any posts in this thread since I got it. It's an incredible game and my friends and I love it. Whenever my friends hold parties, they always ask me to bring it over and we're in front of the TV for at least 2-3 hours. |

Some of the techniques required in the game are actually harder than they are on guitar which is interesting. Hammer Ons/Pull Offs are simple in real life, but the flawless timing and requirement of holding down the lower notes prior to releasing makes them much harder in the game. I'm pretty excited about GHII. Can't wait to see all the new songs and play modes. |
I have to preface this by saying I don't play video games. I suck at video games. The last console I own is a Sega Genesis, and the last game I bought was Mortal Kombat for it.
My girlfriend is a gamer, though. Has a PS2 and XBOX. Last month she comes home with this. I'd never even heard of it. And I start making fun of the little plastic toy guitar. So she takes it and hooks it up in the other room. And I start to hear "Bark at the Moon" blaring. So I get curious, and watch a little bit of it. After watching her play for about twenty minutes, she hands me the guitar and shows me the basics of the game. And now I can't stop playing the fucking thing. It's awesome. Just fucking awesome. (And it's the only game I can kick my girlfriend's ass on. I can no longer make fun of her for having a college degree and still playing video games.) There are so many awesome expansion things they could do with this: Have games with only a certain band (I'll be first in line to get the Iron Maiden one!). Black Sabbath. Slayer. Judas Priest. With the band logos, band members, and everything else. Have games with full albums (How awesome would a "Blizzard of Ozz"/"Diary of a Madman" one be?) |

I just wonder if they should go with a more 'iTunes' route instead of going sequel crazy. Just put up a ton of songs you can download for .99 cents a piece(or Microsoft Points, etc.). I know that would be quite a bit of development time, but people would be able to get the songs they want. If that song were to be released with 20+ bundled together in a sequel, and that person didn't want the other songs, then they might not pick the sequel up.
I think I'll finally be picking this game up tonight. I keep on putting it off in hopes that the price might drop, but I can't hold off any longer. I know it will probably drop around October, but oh well. |

Found it at another store today.
I think my respect for guitar players has doubled infinite after playing this game. I suck.rotfl |
Does it use 5.1 sound?
|
I got it for my birthday, and I love it. It's an incredibly fun game and, whenever I bring it to a party, it becomes the party. I pretty much knew I'd love it due to the fact that I'm a big fan of Harmonix other games, "Frequency," and, "Amplitude."
A local Future Shop store actually had a Guitar Hero tournament, on August 5th. I didn't join it, or anything, but I'm sure it would've been fun. I didn't think I'd be good enough to win. |

God I used to love this game. I sold it along with my PS2. :( At the time it was the only PS2 game I had and I mostly play my Xbox 360. If they don't release this game for 360 it will be a travesty. The 360 is made for this game, with built in wireless, and how good Marketplace is for downloadable content it would be great. Plus, as was already mentioned, it could be a direct port of the PS2 version graphically and no one would care, although next-gen graphics would be even better.
I wonder how an online mode would be? They could do VS./high score mode or whatever or a co-op mode, like maybe 4 players, 1 on lead, 1 on rhythm(sp?), 1 on bass and 1 to sing into the headset. |
Looks like we can add Sweet Child O' Mine to the song list for Guitar Hero 2. Gamespot has a new video up(8/21), featuring that song. The song list for GH2 keeps getting better and better.
|
Yup, watched that video yesterday. It went from "must buy" to "let's build a time machine just to get it sooner."
|
I finally played the first one over my friend's house and I will now be buying it and eventually the second one.
|
I really wish this was out for GameCube, I hate keeping the PS2 around just for this one game.
Of course, I can always just play real guitar I guess... |
'Freebird' is also confirmed now for GH2.
So, I'm like, completely addicted to this game. The only things I've done for two days is work, mow the yard, and play GH with a quick hour break for Prison Break. And, I'm already seeing improvement. Still a looooooooong way from being any good, but I'll get there.:D |

That's freakin awesome! I just watched the video for it, on Gamespot. Hopefully it's the full song. If it is, my hand will probably fall off by the end, but it will be awesome. |
This is the partial list that I gathered from Joystiq in regards to the playlist for this game. However there's no mention of "Freebird".
- Stone Temple Pilots' "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" - Anthrax's "Madhouse" - Mötley Crüe's "Shout at the Devil" - Reverend Horton Heat's "Psychobilly Freakout" - KISS' "Strutter" - Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" - Butthole Surfers' "Who Was in My Room Last Night?" - The Kink's "You Really Got Me" as performed by Van Halen - Rush's "YYZ" - Primus' "John the Fisherman" - Drist "Arterial Black" - Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name Of" (maybe) and ... Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" |

Up/down strumming is signifigantly important in playing fast passages with groups of similar notes, as with Bark at the Moon, The Breaking Wheel, and Fat Lip. It's also generally helpful in various other sections (depending on what's comfortable), due to how it reduces the number of actual hand movements per note by half. HOPO can only be used in certain spots, but they make it easier to do faster runs of different notes. Once you get the timing down for HOPOs, it's a worlds easier to do many of the HOPOable sections with HOPOs instead of strumming every note. Not only that, but there's less chance for error with HOPOs. If you're strumming a fast passage of three notes, then you've got to coordinate the fret presses with every strum, but if you HOPO, then you've just got to get the first note on the strum, then you can just worry about using the frets for the rest. Technically, you don't need to learn how to do HOPOs in order to beat the game (or even get 5 stars on everything, theoretically), but they still make things a whole lot easier. |
In the last day, I've moved from the Easy setting to Medium, and I think I've adjusted kinda okay. Having to use your pinky is really tough if your pinky is weak. Although, not sure how tough of a song it is, but I got 94% on 'Take Me Out' on my third or fourth try. Adding that fourth button makes it really start to feel like you're playing guitar.
