Have all of you seen this video?

I love the description over on the right.

Well that pretty much is the most amazing thing I've seen. Last time I tried CFH on expert i finished with 110k which I'm sure is a far cry from 4 stars. I have no idea how he's able to get those HO/POs so perfectly... and then is able to do it crossing over hands? Just sick if it's not doctored. Would have been curious to see what kind of score that was.

Right now I've got 22 5 stars on expert (not counting the three bonus songs) but I'm not sure how many more I can get. I still can't get 5 on Sharp Dressed Man which is depressing.

Saturday I decided to go for guitar god status on Hard (5 stars on all 47 songs) and so far I've got 5 stars on 25 of the first 26, + 1 of the bonus songs. I'm worried about CFH and Bark though. Even on Hard aceing them should be tough.

Demontooth 01-23-06 01:56 PM

I played this for the first time Saturday, this game rules.

What caught my attention to the game was the dude that was playing it the other night I was in there. He had on a fedora, and he was standing in the guitar player pose and he was really getting into it. He was giving me douche chills.

Fodder1976 01-23-06 02:06 PM

Modred,

What 3 bonus songs are you talking about? I know about all of the songs you can purchase from the unlock shop. Are there other songs besides those that you can unlock?

Thanks

Oh. Figures.

I just meant I also had five stars on three of the 17 unlockable songs, but I wasn't counting them in my five star total.

Mordred 01-31-06 03:26 PM

Anybody else still playing this?

I have 5 stars on every song on Hard except "Texas Flood", "Cowboys From Hell" and "Bark at the Moon" plus "Breaking Wheel", "Decontrol" and "Ready 2 Rock." I think I'm really close on Flood and Bark at the Moon (which is the one I've practiced most). I'm consistently scoring 193k with 93-94% hit, and I think I need 200k. Just need one run where I do really well on my star power. My high score on Flood is 124.7k and I have a sinking feeling I need 125k. I doubt I'm close on CFH though, but with some practice I think I can nail it. "Ready 2 Rok" is deceptively hard but is definitely do able as is Decontrol which probably just needs you to be perfect at the start when you can rack up a lot of points. I have not scored more than 123k and 3 stars on Breaking Wheel no matter how many times I play it. Not sure what I can do about that one.

My 12 year old is getting better than me! And I'm pissed!

Draven 01-31-06 04:13 PM

That Cowboys from Hell video is fucking insane.

I still play for a little bit at least every other day. I've passed (3 stars or better) all of Hard except for Cowboys, and I'm stuck on the second to last tier on expert with just No One Knows and Crossroads left there. Those took me several days to beat on hard, and I haven't even tried them for about a week at the Expert level.

Xander 02-01-06 10:38 AM

Not lately. The deadly WoW has sucked me under.

Besides, I'm stuck on most of the level 6 songs on Hard. Getting rusty. :)

Mordred 02-01-06 03:47 PM

Managed to get 5 stars on "Ready 2 Rokk" and "Bark at the Moon" on hard last night. I didn't think I was doing that great on Bark cause I used my star power at times I don't normally use it at, but apparently that made the difference as I finished with 203k.

ryuryu2949 02-02-06 01:27 PM

played this in a best buy recently. it rocked, and almost makes me want to get a ps2 just to play it.

Mordred 02-02-06 05:41 PM

Hehe. It really is that good a game. In fact I'm so in love with it that I reviewed it on TU yesterday.

Tygan 02-07-06 10:44 PM

I finally convince my wife to pick this up. We spent almost two hours playing tonight. What's funny is that she almost refused to walk out of the store with me because she thought it was so dumb. Can't wait to get better at this game....it's just really addicting.

V-ism 02-08-06 05:21 AM

I'm still playing this game trying to improve my scores, but it's not really getting there. I'm trying for all 5 stars on hard, but I can only do it up until Take Me Out. I haven't been able to really improve any of my expert ratings either.

Mordred 02-08-06 12:11 PM

The other night I was playing. I had 43 5 stars on Hard, 31 5 stars on expert.

I was playing a song on medium that I had already 5 starred to determine exactly what score was needed for 5 stars so that my wife would know what she needed to get. I finished the song, hit continue and then apparently turned off the game while it was loading the song list. My wife came in later, turned on the game and apparently our save game was corrupted. It's times like these when I really hate consoles and their lack of HDs. I'm not even sure I want to even retry anymore after all the hours I poured into it.

Pretty dang depressed about the whole thing.

It sucks, but the game does tell you not to turn off the system while it's saving, which it does every time after you get a new high score (assuming you had autosave turned on).

Even if it had an hard drive, wouldn't the save be corrupted if you turned it of while it was saving?

ytrez 02-08-06 01:29 PM

I ordered from newegg way back when and I never got it. The game disappeared from their web site too. I contacted customer service and they said they didn't even have the order in their system but that it was sold out anyway. Sorry for any inconveniece and all that. No problem. No harm, no foul, I picked it up at Best Buy before X-mas.

Don't ya' know I get an email saying that newegg has shipped the order and charged my cc.

I do have autosave turned on, and it wasn't saving as I was about 50k below my high score for the song and was playing on career mode. I had just finished the song, got my score, hit continue and then powered off the PS2, so I assume it was reading the card to get my list of high scores and that's what corrupted it.

Saving/loading would take a lot less time so less chance of corruption, and as I said, it shouldn't have been saving anything as I didn't have a new high score.

Just damn depressing :(

mkdevo 02-09-06 06:35 AM

seeing my 'game only' ebay auction close at $36 last week made picking up a second one just for the guitar completely worth it!

Thunderball 02-12-06 07:29 AM

I got this for Valentine's Day(awesome girlfriend x10)

Easy was, well, easy. Medium is kicking my ass. The notes are moving faster and faster. I'm sure it'll be like DDR, where the more I play, the better I get, but jeez, what a big jump.

Tygan 02-13-06 12:52 PM

The other night, my wife said she wanted to see me fail a song. So I tried ThunderKiss 65 on expert. It kicked my ass. I have a lot of practicing to do still. I'm making my way through hard right now, but the guitar solos are extremely difficult with all of the hammer ons and pull offs.

I never would have thought that a song by Boston would be my favorite to play on guitar hero.

flair 02-13-06 01:09 PM

I just picked this up late last night, and the girlfriend and I were up for hours playing it. So far I have everything unlocked in the normal difficulty. I did a few in hard and tried to bump up to expert and I couldnt get passed 62% or so in the megadeath son. This is a really fun game though, I wish I would have bought it earlier.

mkdevo 02-23-06 06:53 AM

can't say this thought hasn't crossed my mind, but now that i've seen someone has done it, i may have a new project on my hands...

Well, it certainly looks like Guitar Hero was enough of a success to warrant some future installments...

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63136

All-around awesome news. Not only do we get a full sequel, but also single-genre expansions, all in the next year and a half.

Shagrath 03-07-06 07:47 AM

Great news, indeed! This game has yet to leave the PS2, ever since I got it in mid December.

tor_greg 03-07-06 11:24 AM

If they release them for 20 bucks each, they'll fly.

A-aron 03-07-06 02:24 PM

i wish they'd get busy on an xbox (or 360) version of this game

RichC2 03-07-06 02:54 PM

The game has been selling out a lot down here, glad to see it

Mordred 03-07-06 04:36 PM

Awesome. Can't wait to see what tracks are on the all-metal edition :)

I'm sure they'd lose a lot of money on that too : P

I think he meant the sequels (no guitar, just the game), $20 seems fair considering the engine is made, and all they have to do is get a few bands to cover the songs.

$30 seems more likely though :)

New interview with John Tam (from RedOctane) about GH2 over at IGN....

The hightlights:
- New multiplayer mode where one player plays the lead guitar part, with the other handling rythm/bass/etc.
- Each player can select a different difficulty in multiplayer.
- Practice mode where you'll be able to loop a particular section of a song. No mention if you'll be able to slow it down, though.
- They're aiming to have 40 licensed songs, up from 30 in the original.
- The indie songs may be from more than just the in-house bands. They'll also be running the Be A Guitar Hero contest again.
- They've been talking with some of the artists of the new licensed songs, and there have been a few mentions of using the master tracks from the songs, so there may be a few less covers this time around.

A-aron 04-17-06 07:21 PM

darn, no mention about GH for other consoles :(

I would love to have this for the x-box.

Holy shit - that's nine kinds of awesome. GH is the only reason I still have a PS2. I even picked up a second guitar the other day. The new multiplayer sounds awesome, especially different difficulties for each player and lead/bass/rhythm stuff.

Excellent

Mopower 04-18-06 02:49 PM

I hope it comes with a different guitar. Like a flying V or something. It would be awsome if each sequel came with it's own different guitar.
