At last check, my girlfriend has 5'd all of Medium, and completed 13 on Hard. Not with flying colors, granted, but still. Personally, I'm working on the first 5 of Hard as we speak.
..and go figure, I just bought Frequency used for $6.99 at GameCrazy. The remix of Fear Factory's "Frequency" has been my favorite so far. The game takes a little getting used to, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. Amplitude is next, just because I miss Quarashi's "Breakdown".

It's got a good guitar part, it's heavy sounding without being just a bunch of yelling (like that song by Slipknot from Amplitude), and at least it's not another song like "Fat Lip" (or do people like that one?).
It looks like Lamb of God's "Laid To Rest" will easily be the heaviest GH song yet. I just hope the GH version has vocals, and that they are decent. It does have multiple "fucks" in it, so I wonder if they are going to censor them or what.

is it just me, or are the singers so much more awful on this game? The first game some of the songs were almost indistiguishable. What I've heard on this one so far is horrible. Freebird sounded bad with that guy really accentuating the southern accent...

Hmm, yeah I guess just a rumor I heard a long time ago, that kind of turned into reality in my rusty brain... =) I think Harmonix / Red Octane would be insane not to release it for 360 even at a later date. Specially with the possibility of Live! downloads. That would rock! (no pun intended)

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but I just recently found a site called www.scorehero.com where you can upload your best scores and compare them against others. They discuss strategy and are generally an extremely competitive bunch of guys. I just started playing the game again two weeks ago after letting it sit for five months after I destroyed my save game. It's scorehero has certainly become a great motivating factor for me as I think I do really well on a song and found out I have the 400th highest score
Definitely check it out if you're still playing the game and anxiously awaiting GH2 like I am.

I don't know if I can stand playing this game if I am going to be forced to have to listen to Freebird.
If I never had to hear that tripe again it would be too soon. What is the appeal?? The endless wanking guitar solo adds insult to injury (5 minutes of tired rock licks repeated over and over and over...wheee)

A recent Gametrailers preview video titled "Staying on Track" features a member of Wavegroup confirming Megadeth's "Hangar 18" and Aerosmith's "Last Child". This video has since been removed from the site due to undisclosed reasons.

I like Freebird and have since it was first released. I'll offer a simple solution for you, mute your tv when you do this song and you won't have to listen!

MTV Purchases Guitar Hero Developer
September 22, 2006 - All your Guitar Hero belong to MTV:
MTV Networks (MTVN), a division of Viacom Inc. today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Harmonix Music Systems, Inc., developer of the PlayStation 2 hit Guitar Hero and other music gaming titles, on behalf of MTV. Under the terms of the transaction, MTV Networks will acquire all of the outstanding stock of Harmonix for $175 million in cash. In addition, Harmonix shareholders may be eligible for incremental earn-out payments through 2008, to the extent that financial results exceed specific targets.
The acquisition of Harmonix demonstrates MTV's commitment to music and furthers its strategy of engaging passionate music fans through a deep and immersive multi-platform entertainment experience. With the addition of Harmonix's strong music gaming titles, MTV will enhance its music-based universe of entertainment, news, gaming, and interactive content offerings, and increase audience engagement and time spent with the brand across all screens.
The announcement follows MTV Games' successful partnership, initiated in November 2005, to feature Harmonix's Guitar Hero franchise in original programming, creative promotions and competitions across a number of MTV's multi-platform properties. Guitar Hero, published by RedOctane/Activision, is among the top-selling PlayStation 2 games this year and has been honored with several accolades at the Interactive Achievement Awards, Game Developer Choice Awards, and other industry events. Guitar Hero 2 is scheduled for release this fall.
"The acquisition of Harmonix will deepen MTV's connection to its audience via on-line, mobile and console music gaming, and expand the relationship with both labels and artists through the creation of games based on classic songs as well as future album releases," said Christina Norman, President, MTV. "Harmonix's technology allows everyone to pursue their rock and roll fantasies, even people like me, with more musical ambition than actual talent."
"Harmonix is a wonderful addition to Viacom's tremendous collection of digital assets, and is precisely the type of transaction that will help us aggressively grow our digital business while maintaining strong fiscal discipline," said Philippe Dauman, President and CEO, Viacom Inc. "We're committed to a swift integration and look forward to helping Harmonix become even stronger with the support of the incredible marketing and creative power at MTV Networks."
"The acquisition of Harmonix advances MTV Networks' strategy of connecting with target audiences by creating immersive, multi-platform environments that extend to every device they use," said Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO, MTV Networks. "Harmonix is an innovator in giving audiences new and dynamic ways to interact with music, and I couldn't be more excited to welcome the company into MTV Networks' strong portfolio of multi-platform brands."
Harmonix pioneered music and rhythm gaming with the introduction of Frequency in 2001 and Amplitude in 2003. These games won numerous accolades including one of Rolling Stone's "Best Console Games of 2003" and IGN's "Reader Top 10". The company also developed the Karaoke Revolution franchise, which turned singing into a competitive game. This title was named by TIME Magazine as the "#1 Video Game of 2003" and won Electronic Gaming Monthly's 2003 "Gaming Innovation of the Year" award.
"We are very excited to combine our unique assets in the music and gaming space with one of the most recognized brands in the music world. We look forward to continuing to create innovative ways for people to enjoy music," said Alex Rigopulos, Harmonix's CEO.
Mr. Rigopulos and other key employees will continue in their roles following the completion of the acquisition. Harmonix will join MTV Networks' Music and LOGO Enterprises unit, led by Jeff Yapp, Executive Vice President.
"Harmonix's talented team will be a powerful and important addition to MTV that brings enormous talent and expertise. All of us are excited to begin working with them to develop meaningful and creative ways to deliver music to our audience," said Mr. Yapp.
The transaction is expected to close in the 4th quarter of 2006, and is subject to certain customary conditions.
I see this as a good thing.
I'm not a fan of MTV, but the influence they have on the music industry is huge. I can imagine it a lot easier for them to purchase the rights to songs they want to include, maybe even help with having even less covers (as good as they are) and having the actual bands help record the songs for the game.
Then again there could be ads all over the game and it could just be full of Fall Out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold songs.... sigh....

Oh, Christ, this means that Guitar Hero III and beyond won't have any music in them, doesn't it?

Back on topic.
My brother had never played this game before and at first he laughed at the SG controller. He's big on rock music so he gave it a try.
He got the hang of it in less than 15 mins and finished easy level on his first try and then moved onto medium! He was in his own little world and my wife and I were awestruck at how quickly he got into the game.
My brother went out and bought a PS2 and Guitar Hero the next day. He loves it. He went absolutely nuts when he played More Than a Feeling by Boston.
This is what gaming is all about. The experience.
