Okami... whoa!

I beat it tonight, just a hair under 39 hours. I didn't rush through any parts, or skip any exploration. Mainly just skipped the kill the monster on the list sidequests. Had all the weapons except for one rosary one I didn't have enough money to buy at the time and never went back to get and all the moves except the 2 million taunt.
Edit: Looking at a guide I missed a lot of extra brush techniques.
All in all, a phenomenal game. I'd probably give it a 9.5 out of 10, with a 1/2 point off for being a bit easy and the story getting a bit disjointed after the half way mark (and not having a very satisfying ending for a long game). But those are nitpicks, and this is easily in my all time top ten if not top five as it excells everywhere else with a great world to explore, some clever puzzles, the brush is a blast to use, and the boss battles are great. Just a ton of fun from start to finish--I never got remotely bored or frustrated with it.
I can't recommend it highly enough!

It would be phenomenal, and would look great give the Wii is more powerful than the PS2.
But probably pretty unlikely since Capcom subsumed Clover and I don't' think it sold all that well.

Hate to resurrect an old thread but I picked this up this weekend. It looks pretty damn good on a PS3! Beautiful game and boatloads of fun to play.

I assumed it was already out of print. As amazing as it was I don't know if it sold well enough to go GH. EBGames has it used for 34.99 in stock.

I've been tempted to pick this up again, but a) the little rumor of a Wii edition had me hesitant, and b) the prices are high across the board. If this sucker is going to vanish out-of-print like many other great RPG-esque games that didn't find a huge audience, then I might snatch one up at one of the local game chains pretty soon.

I'd buy this close to release on Wii, but just can't count on myself to play through a PS2 game.
Okami vets, any reason that this would be a hard port for Capcom? Does it use a ton of buttons or anything?

I was trying to pick this up at the Toys R Us and Target Clearances to no avail, but I think I'm waiting for the Wii version, considering what Capcom was able to do with RE4. Okami should be lovely on the Wii!

Just imagine this with the Wii remote:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wt3oOWt7Zzo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wt3oOWt7Zzo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

The problem is that it hasn't been confirmed or even hinted at by anyone at Capcom. Dumbasses.

Yeah but they have gone on record saying they have something like 6 Wii games in development, just haven't revealed any other than Zack & Wiki and RE: UC.

Well, controlling the wolf is nothing new on the Wii (Zelda TP). As to painting with the Wiimote, cool idea. However, you don't need that kind of control to make this game a "better" game. I just barely started this game so i can't comment too much... i drew a ugly circle using the controller and it was okay...

I finished the PS2 version last year, and here are my initial comparisons with the Wii version after a couple hours:
Short version:
Buy this fucking game!
Medium version:
If you only have a PS2, get the PS2 version
If you only have a Wii, get the Will version
If you have both a PS2 and a Wii, get it for the PS2
If you have neither, buy a PS2 and Okami for it
Long version:
Okay, the PS2 version definitely controls better then the game does on the Wii - in all aspects, from control, attacks, dodging, brush-strokes - it all feels better, smoother, and more intuitive on the PS2.
But that's not to say that the Wii version controls poorly. It's just not as tight. The controls for the Wii version certainly get the job done, and any initial awkwardness will be over come after a couple hours (you'll have the time - this is a very long game). And it might not even be something you'd notice if you've never played the PS2 version.
But something you will notice are the graphics. Even with the paper-filter effect minimized it's still a striking looking game, and the Wii version looks a lot more vibrant, with deeper richer colors. It also has progressive scan and 16:9 capabilities, if you're able. For some people, that's enough to put it over the PS2 version. And it is a close call, but to me, I like the quicker handling of the PS2 controls.
But Wii owners - you better still get this game! I personally enjoyed it far more than any 3D Zelda game, and it's easily in my top-10 favorite games of all time. You'd do yourself a disservice by passing it up. Sure, it may be "last gen", but it's deeper and has more artistic style than any current-gen game on the market.
My one criticism of Okami is that it's actually too long. It needs a good 10 hours of the more tedious stuff shaved off of it. At 40+ hours, it's bit long in the tooth and can overstay it's welcome. But if it were a tighter 30 hour experience, it'd have been pretty much the greatest adventure game ever created.
So, to repeat:
BUY. THIS. GAME!

Amazon had this on sell so I bought it. Looks good. The story is good so far. Haven't put to much time into it but it looks like a winner.
Did you notice that wood sprite tree lady has the back of her dress cut out to show off her butt cheeks. Before I seen that I thought they were hinting at her nipples also but thought it could be due to the coloring. Now I think they were doing just that. Why I don't know.
On a different note the controls are a little rough. The painting is done into the tv instead of on the tv. Like you are paint the picture on a table instead of on a wall. So when you move the brush forward nothing happens. In order to go forward you have to move the wiimote up. It isn't really acting like a real brush would so there is some disconnect.

I think the slash has a timer on it that doesn't let you do two slashes in row quickly. So I have to slash run slash run. The jump slash attack seems to work every time.

I finished Okami on the Wii last night.
57 hours and 1 minute(upgraded and found nearly everything but the beads, the last money pouch, an the $2 million taunt). Holy shit what an awesome game, but the last boss gets a big
Although it dragged a bit around Se-an City (when is this fucker going to end), it picked up when you get to Kumari. Anyway, This shoots to the top of my list of most memorable games in years. It's definitely the best Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.
I am very disappointed about how things carry over to your next playthrough. I was hoping I would get to wander freely to find everything I missed, but no, they take away the best weapons, sun fragments and beads. I guess I can go back to a previous save, right before entering the Ark, but that's not the same. I figured I'd get to wander the sunny and peaceful land free of enemies to just search to my hearts content.
I am disappointed this didn't sell because a sequel would be awesome. At the same time I now see why people were against it when the Wii version was announced, what-with the Clover guys gone and-all. My immediate reaction was wanting a sequel, but it wouldn't be the same.
Going back and watching the vids above made me wish I chose PS2 for the paper texture. Very stylish. I had no idea there was a difference. In the end though, being a 60 hour experience for me, I'm glad I went Wii for 16:9. Plus with that paper texture everything is washed out and the world is not nearly as vibrant and alive as the Wii version.

Playing through this on the Wii now. The Konahana shuffle was incredibly frustrating due to the controls. I must have done it like 20 times, and when you have to rescroll through text it becomes even more frustrating. The Wiimote seems a little inaccurate, but I don't have the PS2 version to compare it to. Otherwise incredibly fun and addictive so far.

I have the Wii version but I found this game tedious. I wish I could see and feel what others here have.
