They were always the ones suggesting an impromptu Burgertime or Pitfall contest. Man, I wish my Coleco still worked. I still never beat that damn Venture game and it gets me riled up to this day. Now I rarely have time for much video gaming with my MFA and work... but I can't imagine not having my systems around when I need to de-stress.

32. My wife got me a PS2 for Christmas 2 years back.
My parents got my brother and me an Atari 2600, probably around a price drop [it wasn't at release]. We used to spend hours taking turns playing Space Invaders, and my first all-nighter was when my grandmother got me Defender for a birthday present. Before that, they had one of those Sears Tele-Games Pong machines that was simple, but fun. Plus, four player action!
My son [almost 3] doesn't 'play' anything yet, but he'll watch me play volleyball or golf or Klonoa, and he'll grab the controller and act like he's using it.
I took a break from gaming in the later high school/early college years, when my focus was elsewhere, but got into PC with Doom [bought the 'shareware' version on floppy disk] and back into console gaming with the Genesis.
Gaming can be a better 'family' activity than watching tv or a movie--obviously depending on the game. But when my folks come up, they usually watch us play Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, or watch me play an RPG, or we play volleyball, golf, ATV, or Culdcept together.

That is because the majority of DVDtalk users(well, posters) in general are mid 20's and up. There was a poll in otter a while back about age as well. Plus this place is moderated quite well to keep the kiddies that want to bash talk smack, i.e. just be an asshole, out.

You can say that again. The posters on here are also a bit on the territorial side as well. (which is a good thing) If they really don't like you because your being an asshole, you'll know about it pretty quick. And then the bashing starts until your gone. Kind of a good system! I've seen a few new users come and go in the matter of a day or two.

I had an Atari 2600 growing up, but never moved on to Nintendo or anything.

I'm 31. I've been playing games since I got my Commodore 64 back around 5th or 6th grade. I've owned pretty much every game system released in the USA at one time or another.

I have two boys: 3 and 5 and they're both very interested in gaming.

the first system i had was atari 2600. i've bought every nintendo system from nes to gamecube. snes is still the greatest. arcades were awesome back in the early 90s with the fighting scene.

31 here... playing games since the year my father bought us the Atari 400 computer, just so we were able to experience a REAL version of Pac Man, not the crap the Atari 2600 had... the 400 also has one of the only versions of Donkey Kong to include all 4 levels (conveyor belt layer is missing from many versions of this, including the NES version of DK... even the e-reader doesnt include it)... eventually graduated to an NES, then Genesis, SNES, PS, etc...etc

My nephews love when I go visit them as we always end up playing some sort of game. From Half life 2, to Dance Dance Revolution. They always ask me for advice on games and computers. Yah, im the "cool" uncle.
(though one nephew always owns me in Halo2, but he plays it whenever he's not in school)

I originally played on one of the old Pong systems my grandparents had, then a TI-99 with BASIC games saved on audiocassettes, Atari, PC games, and the whole cycle really. My parents and i used to have Atari competetitions with 2 games: Combat and Megamania. I actually got a high score on Megamania, sent in a photo of the TV screen and got an iron-on patch declaring myself a Megamaniac. Damn i wish i still had that patch now. That and all my old Pacmania stickers.

That's no doubt. The 2600 version of Pac Man was the first game I pre-ordered, waited for what seemed like months for it to show up and man did it suck. The Atari 5200 version was pretty good though.

I'm 38 and I have never owned any system created Nintendo.I started out with the Magnanvox Oddesys(sp?) then the Atari 2600. After the 84' depression I got a Sega Master system (Loved it because it had a lot of the arcade games I played at the arcades). The next consoles were mainly Sega other systems i.e Genesis, Game gear, Saturn and the Dreamcast. This generation the PS/1, Xbox and PSP.


I have played Nintendo games at friends' homes, but I just never felt the urge to buy one for myself.

I think we did this thread awhile ago, the average ended up being around 28, with people from 14 all the way up through 40s and 50s. Even still, this forum can be just as immature as others sometimes.

oh and I'm on the low end of the 22 and 25 option.
