argh, mine is paid off but it's getting shipped here. Probably a good thing since I'm playing SoTC and Mario Kart right now.
BTW the slime knights has been the greatest pre-release event I've ever seen done. They are very involved and constantly updating. I've gotten a free T-shirt and DVD doing the quests that hardly take up any time at all (not sure if there are any easy ones still left), and it definitely got me hyped up.

I want this one, but I still have Smackdown vs Raw 2006, True Crime NYC, and Wild Arms Alter Code F to keep me busy. Once it's on sale near me, it's mine
That is unless True Crime and Wild Arms get bad reviews.

I'm talking about RPG's over the last 2-3 years in general have all been pretty linear. It's going to be nice to play an RPG that gives you freedom to explore the game world rather than looking at a map and then selecting a place where the game wants you to go.

From what I understand the new FFXII combat system is like the one used in their online game, FFXI. I didn't really care for it when I played FFXI so I'm not all that excited about it. I got it here in my hands so we'll see after I play it tonight.

Please don't sully my Dragon Quest thread with talk about FF.
Picked up my copy from Gamestop today, but haven't opened it yet because Best Buy is supposed to be getting their stock tomorrow. I have a 15% off 3 item coupon that I'm going to try to use on DQ8, Mario Kart DS, and Green Day: Bullet in a Bible if I can get all 3. Then I'll trade my GS DQ8 back in for credit probably towards Super Mario Strikers. If I strike out at BB, at least I've already got a copy to fall back on.
Anybody crack into it yet?

Actually I can't wait to start playing this thing tonight. I'll probably play the FFXII demo first to get it out of the way and then begin my long ass adventure in DQVIII.

Here's the "Log Your Journey" entry I submitted to Slime Knights.
Beer's Log, 1:50.
I spent 50 minutes wandering around town talking to people. This wasn't very fun but I did get to pick up and smash a lot of pots and barrels and flirt with a bunny girl. So I guess I'm supposed find a crystal ball for some drunk guy's pig-tailed daughter. All I could make out of it was an excuse to go beat up some monsters and we're off! I leave town with advice to stay on the road, naturally I went immediately into a stray and tried to look for treasure. I found a locked chest near town and a Seed of Life guarded by a big axe dinosaur whom I avoided, still being level 3 and all. I managed my way back to town and bought a copper sword for justice dispensing and rested at the inn (the bunny girl at the bar refused to join me, alas). Back outside and determined still not to follow the road, I managed to stumble to the waterfall cave and near its entrance I engaged into battle with the legendary One Night Stand. He threatened to squelch me and take the bunny girl for his own. My comrade and I made short work of the promiscuous slime knight with the help of a little defense of herb usage. This battle took its toll on us though as we were already low on the medicinal greenage but decided to take a peek into the cave before trekking back to town. We managed to clean the first floor of the cave of its loot while strengthening up a bit in the process. However, my magic power was relinquished and we had gone through our herb stash. It was due for another trip to town to procure some green from the local dealer there. Back in town the merchant offered us "something good" for 600 gold. Not interested in the strong stuff (nor equipped to pay for it) we settled for a bag of our usual, stayed at the inn and made an confession at the church.

Okay ladies, make sure to save your cache of this as I may have to delete it to keep my reputation respectable.. but here goes.. I didn't think the demo of Final Fantasy XII was all that bad. MIND YOU, I already detest the characters and the plot to the game is bound to be overtly bloated and pretentious so I don't know if I'm any closer to actually getting the game. The new battle system was pretty interesting though I'm not sure what the point of being able to move around is other than to give the appearance of the battles being more interactive (you don't seem to be able to attack and then pull back to dodge or such).
