Warp to the hunting ground and walk west on the road for a few seconds. You'll see an area with a bunch of trees. Stand in that area and keep whistling.

It's Yangus's first Humanity skill that allows you to automatically get into a random battle without needed to walk around. Really useful for quick leveling up if you don't have something in the Alchemy Pot.

Ugh..so I might have to wait 1-2 more levels.

I have Axe pumped to max.

I am still undecided where to spend my points!

I know. I'm a bit pissed I haven't added to the sword skill for hero. I've pretty much used nothing but spears since as soon I was able to buy one. Now I could really use Metal Slash. I should have it in two more levels though.

Once you complete the Hunting Grounds and go back to Argonia, you'll be able to get a better one.

Spoiler:
When you get back to the town, there is a bazaar with many more shops. You can buy the zombiesbane which is better than the dream blade. Using alchemy you can turn it into the zombie slayer which is much more powerful.

I test Nose for Treasure once to see if it was worthless or not and I found it to be worthless. I did it with a treasure chest IN SIGHT and it went undetected.

It does not work on the World Map.. only in towns, dungeons and special areas.

I've been playing Dragon Quest V the last couple of nights.. and while the graphics in VIII are FAR superior, the animation in V is a lot better. The monsters seem to have more life to them and the people in towns and such as well. Just an interesting little tidbit.

Do all the PS games have the 3D graphics like VII does? VII and VIII are the only post NES DQ games I've seen/played.

IV for the PS1 looks a LOT like VII.. a little better but mostly the same. V is for PS2 and while it kind of uses the same perspective it looks a hell of a LOT better. Oh, and V is all 3D as opposed to the 2D/3D combination of VII and IV. They're all kind of limited to that "2D game using 3D graphics feel" though..

Dragon Quest IV is a remake of an NES game for PS1.
Dragon Quest V is a remake of a SNES game for PS2.

Ever since DQV they've typically remade a previous game before the next new installment comes out.

Yeah, I just found this site http://www.dqshrine.com which has a lot of info. The graphics in the V remake look great. I wish that would get a US release.

Dragon Quest V needs to come out here. It's Yuji Hori's favorite and he wants it to come out to America. It's such a damn good game. The "generations" story-line is cool as hell too. You start off as a child, then you play as an adult, then you finish the game with your children. There's a big campaign over at Slime Knights to show Square-Enix that everybody that bought VIII wants V. I don't know if it'll amount to much, but it is the official fan-site and the campaign is right under Square-Enix's noses. It's infuriating that we have to campaign for this game while SE releases crap like all three Full Metal Alchemist games and the remake of Romancing SaGa (and as much as I like the SaGa series, Dragon Quest is a much better, more mainstream choice).

I'll have to check that site out. This game is really giving me a DQ kick. I already am planning on going back and finishing VII once I compete VIII. I remember VII being pretty boring though...

The first DQ was one of the first games I ever played so this series really takes me back.

I didn't really like VII. It's kind of the "black sheep" of the series to me. If you're on a Dragon Quest kick I'd really suggest giving Dragon Quest V a shot. There's a fan translation on the internet.. and I won't say anymore than that.. but give it a try. Or you can try Dragon Warrior IV on the NES.. those are probably the two highlights of the series, in my opinion.

I don't think I've ever heard from anyone who liked DQ7. It's notoriously lengthy, and mostly involved going back and forth talking to people.

Isn't it the best selling game of all time too thanks to the series' popularity in Japan? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere after it came out. I don't think I got more than a few hours into it before I stopped playing when it first came out here. That was either right before, or right after PS2 was released though. I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

Yeah, VII is the biggest selling PS1 game in Japan.. 4 million copies or something to that effect. It won some big non-video game award too so they must have really liked it. I just couldn't connect.. not enough killing monsters and getting treasures (though what there was of that, I did enjoy).
