Im about 40 hours in, got to Empychuu now. Unfortunately died at the big boss here, but I think thats because I made a mistake in the battle that probably cost me it. Going to try again today. Loving the game, been playing this and then AC in my spare time.

I absolutely love this game! I'm about 52 hours in and am just about to enter the Herb Grotto. After the Herb Grotto I was thinking of doing the Cash & Carrie side-quest. Do you think my levels are high enough (32-34) to go there?

Also a question for Pixy, Is the post game worth doing? How long does it take and is there alot of leveling to do or extra equipment to get (through alchemy or searching) that is necessary to beat that part? I ask because I got Mario and Luigi: Partners in Crime (I've played every Mario RPG since SNES) and FFIV for Christmas and have been putting off playing both to finish DQVIII and I REALLY wanna start them.

Any advice?

After I open the Baccarat casino I plan on amassing a large amount of tokens to turn into Prayer Rings and then gold so I don't have to worry about money anymore.

I don't particularly remember the Dragon Graveyard to be too hard. Just remember to equip armors that negate fire and ice damage as a lot of the monsters in there have very powerful breath attacks.

The post-game stuff is TOTALLY worth doing, just wait, you'll see what I mean. You shouldn't have to level too much for the meat of it.. there's one boss that you have to defeat to complete the story aspect of the post-game stuff. After that there are extra optional bosses to fight for some new items. If you can beat the final boss, you should be able to handle the first bonus boss. I'd say it's probably an extra 2-3 hours unless you want to beat all eight of the extra bosses.

I need to suck it up and finish. I've seen the light at the end of the tunnel and I've stopped myself from going towards it. I know it'll all be over soon.

How much is left after the Black Citadel?

EDIT: You posted basically the answer to my question simultaneously.

I've got about 30 hours logged and I haven't played in a month. I need to cancel my WoW account and get back to playing this. It's not that DQ8 got boring, it's just WoW is eating up all my free time and it's putting all my single player games on hold.

I hear ya, back durning the original EQ live I had amassed 14 rpgs. It was nearly full year of rpg bliss after I took a break after the luclin expansion came out. Its near impossible to start current on both fronts, good luck.

So I only have to beat one post-game boss to get the extra story elements? Ok I can do that. And from what I read if you complete the post-game and then go beat the final boss again you do get a new ending.

I assumed as much. The ending as was would have been awkward after completing the post-game events. I've yet to beat the final boss again to see it though. As for the boss in the post-game.. he's actually pretty easy. He hits hard as hell but lacks a certain defense mechanism most of the end-game bosses have.

I'm about to go into the Dark Ruins and I wanted to get my team as close to 30 as I could. Right now I'm at 28, 27, 26, and 25 for Hero, Yangus, Jessica, and Angelo. I have a bit more leveling to do. Thank god for Whistle.

It's AROUND 30.. but the pivotal point is getting Angelo Multiheal. After that you should clean house in Dark Ruins.

Cool. Maybe I'll just wait for that to happen before I even go in the Dard Ruins. Can you recommend a good place to level up? I found that around the hunting ground is pretty good, but it's still a slow process.

The forest west of the Royal Hunting Grounds has a plethora of Metal Slimes.
If you have Metal Slash for either Hero or Angelo you should hit 30 in no time.

Yeah, I could see how Multi-Heal would help alot in that battle. I eventually had to sacrifice Jessica during the fight with

Dhoulmagus
because I couldn't heal everyone fast enough (and it didn't help that I only had one Elven Elixer). I'm going into the Herb Grotto now and I still haven't got Multi-Heal yet. I think Angelo is on Lv. 29.

What's the best way to make money? The Casino still isn't open and battles usually give next to none.

Holy Crap!

First time I've seen that many.

Can I defeat the Gold Golems at my levels?

That's actually what almost every battle on Slime Hill looks like. You can't access that for a long while, though.

BTW, a King Metal Slime is 17 HP. I beat one without a critical (4 rounds without running). Yeah, I feel really good about it.

I told you that forest was the spot.

Yeah, you should be okay to go to Neos now, Gold Golems aren't tough.

I'll give that a try tonight. I didn't get to play as much as I wanted to last night. Tonight will be just for leveling and getting money. I have a feeling that by the time I actually go to the battle in the Dark Ruins, it's going to be a joke.
