Super NES Bomberman was awesome. Then they 3D-ed it for Bomberman 64 and boy was that a letdown.

Mercenaries didn't quite turn out to be the GTA-Military that some of the reviews made it out to be.

Brute Force arrived with a lot of hype and turned out to be an extremely repetitive game.

I guess I would say GTA: San Andreas. While it was a good game, I just felt like it was too much. I can stand to play through GTA 3 and Vice City multiple times but I've only made it through San Andreas once and do not have much desire to revisit it.

I'd also have to agree with Shenmue. I picked it up on release day but never finished it. What a bore it was.

I'd add Ultima VIII to that. After the genius of VII (even serpent isle was pretty good) I really disliked the change in direction of VIII. Never progressed very far in that game.

Magic the Gathering Battlegrounds

I really like the way MTG the card game plays with all it's tons of strategies. This game though was way too fast paced to be a magic game. Imo the only thing it has in common with the cool card game is the name and a few known cards. Moving around the board to pick up mana was pretty stupid

Although still very bad, Etherlords did the magic system better than wizards could do

Wasn't that the game that was recalled. That was very disappointing. I loved the FPS football series, up to '97.
Yeah, you're right, it was. Sierra sent out a $20 rebate and I think some crap game in exchange for your copy of FPS Football.

Brute Force was pretty generic. I expected a lot more, got a lot less. I finished by pretty much just playing the stealth/inviso character. Played through it again as just the sniper for the most part, and again finished it in less than a day of playing

I agree that it was a big stepdown from VII but I enjoyed Ultima VIII for what it was. IX was just a mess.

I just remembered being really disappointed in the direction Kings Quest veered onto. I never really got into KQ7 much, but that last one was so different it ceased to be King's Quest.

Mortal Kombat 3

I thought the first MK was great, bringing motion-captured fighting and over-the-top finishing moves. It was nice to have all that gore in a video game. Then MK 2 was released with the larger number of playable characters (hidden ones too!) and different finishing moves to choose from. It felt like the series got a major steroid boost with improvements in every department from graphics to sound to gameplay, etc. So naturally, I was hyped for the 3rd installment. But nope! The combo system sucked. Having to hit different buttons in sequence was new but never did catch-on. It seemed as if some of the characters were exagerrated in their creation, a sort of "look at me!" design but never really fit into the MK universe. Knocking a player into the level above was pure gimmicky and didn't add anything to the enjoyment of the game. The code system where you had to enter six picutres in a correct sequence (before the match started) to unlock special features was lame. The time you had to pull-off a finishing move was reduced so most of the time your opponent just fell to the floor - cheap!

I tried MK 4 and Deception. Both sucked monkey balls. Hell, they even made a Sub-Zero side scroller! Big and hairy monkey balls!

I don't see a reason to continue with the series anymore.

One that really let me down Was WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw.

It's a very good game, and I look forward to the Smackdown Series year after year. I felt that the season mode was way too repetitive on this one, and I felt a bit robbed.

Another one that I felt disappointed in was madden 2006 like others have mentioned.

The whole Zelda sailing thing could have been fixed by simply allowing you to skip the wind changing animation. If you had shortcut buttons to change the direction sailing wouldn't have been nearly as tedious.

Halo 2 - Loved the game, but it had no ending. I felt cheated at the end of the game.
Final Fantasy IX - Final Fantasy VII was the first FF game I'd ever played and I loved it. I also loved Final Fantasy VIII, but FFIX just could not hold my attention, and I gave it up after about 3 hours into the game.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Lost interest after countless and countless cutscenes, followed by about 5 minutes of gameplay. Loved Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater.

Yeah, I agree with you there. Although I'm sure some long-time fans will disagree, to me King's Quest VI was the pinnacle of the series. The graphics, the story, and the puzzles all came together perfectly in that game. Then the series took a big step down with King's Quest VII, a cartoony affair that was lacking in story and challenge. But even King Quest VII seemed like classic King's Quest compared to Mask of Eternity, which took the series to a bad place.

If nothing else, the fan-made King's Quest IX looks like a lot better game than KQVIII. Here's hoping!

I actually really enjoyed MK3 and felt that the series started sucking really bad after it went 3D. MK2 was pretty good and i spent money on it but nothing to the degree that i memorized combos and fatalities for every character in MK3 (I was nigh unbeatable with Smoke).

Which of them had the animalities, friendships, and babalities? It was 3 wasn't it? I had all of those memorized at the time as well so i could whip out an embarassing friendship or something after beating someone flawlessly.

I think you are thinking of 2.

spainlinx0 09-13-05 02:46 AM

I remember 2 definitely had friendships, animalities, and babalities. I don't know if three had it since my interest also peaked with part 2. However I can't remember if Smoke was a playable character though I do remember you could fight him. TOASTY!!!

xmiyux 09-13-05 05:46 AM

Smoke was a playable in MK3. It was the robot smoke, not the ninja Smoke.

King's Quest VI was my fave, too.
