Thats a good point. But, by the time the game is actually released it will probably be the same week as the Playstation 4 launch.

Not that I am complaining. The game looks like a lot of work has gone into it. It's looking to be shaping up very nicely.

I do kind of hope that this game releases around the same time as PS3. Why? I no longer own a Playstation 2 and dont really want to buy one again. I sold off this generations systems to help pay for this upcoming generations systems. I have been living off only the DS for months which actually hasnt been half bad this fall. Some nice titles. But, if the PS3 is postponed to next fall for next falls holiday season, I will have to. I dont want to wait months and months to play it if its released in the spring.

I barely get that way about games (very few which tend to be highly popular titles), but I wont be waiting with this one. Im getting it on release day.

It would be. Though RE5 is going to 360 also, so that one wouldn't really mean as much as the others.

I don't think Sony cares much about having a spectacular launch lineup. They know they'll sell assloads of these things even if they launch with half-asses graphics fireworks demos.

 What are you talkin' about? Fantavison ruled!
Of course, I bought Suggler's Run, which wasn't much better.

And though there wasn't anything spectacular at the PS2's launch (besides maybe SSX), the PS1 had Twisted Metal and Ridge Racer at launch, so that wasn't shabby at all.

Thats why I hope PS3 is released around the same time as Kingdom Hearts 2. If the Playstation 3 is pushed off until next fall (because of blue ray issues), but Kingdom of Hearts is released in the spring, I will have to purchase a PS2 again (which I dont want to do) to play Kingdom Hearts 2. Because I wouldnt want to wait from Spring all the way until Fall to play it. There will be no Playstation 3 to purchase yet at that time if its pushed off. Hope that makes sense.

If it's THAT important to you and those dates are right, spend the extra $20 on the PS2 replacement warranty at Best Buy. Then you can bring it back just prior to the PS3 launch and pick up a $150 gift voucher for your PS2 to use on the purchase of your PS3 (or anything else).

AllHallowsEve 11-27-05 09:08 PM

Our Best Buy store requires that items be sent in for service before paying out on the replacement plan. So, that kind of kills that idea.

Funny thing is when I purchased a graphing calculator a few years ago, the salesperson actually told me to buy the replacement plan, use the item, and then return it after the semester and buy cd's. I couldn't believe it. I am dead serious. I didnt do that though.

Maybe I will just see if someone will let me borrow theirs for a week or two who doesnt use it. But, hopefully everything stays on schedule and that way there will be no problems.

I also plan on pre-ordering as soon as they start taking pre-orders. Hopefully from somewhere legitimate this time that wont knock my pre-order out after six months because I paid in full. Huh? Yep, I thought the same thing.

DJ_Longfellow 11-29-05 11:52 AM

So, do we forsee the same fiasco for trying to get one of these as we did with the XBOX 360?

Gallant Pig 11-29-05 12:06 PM

You should probably start camping out now.

Yep, given the huge popularity of the playstation series (look how many more PS2's were sold compared to X-boxes), I'm sure the PS3 will be even tougher to find around launch.

And that's why I'm not going to mess around like I did with the 360 and just pre-order a PS3. I'm done with waiting in lines.

jeffdsmith 11-29-05 09:46 PM

What Walmart (and others) should do is tell everyone in advance to show up at 11pm the night of the launch. Everyone present at 11:30pm receives a number. Following, a random drawing is held as to who gets to buy the system at midnight.

I recognize this potentially screws those willing to wait in line, but I really do think this would be a superior system by providing increased safety and sanity.

That's definitely best if you have to have one at launch.

Of course a lot of stores haven't filled all their 360 pre-orders yet, but at least those people know they'll eventually get one without having to check stores repeatedly.

Gallant Pig 11-29-05 10:59 PM

Jeff that would make way too much sense and be way too easy.

Here's my much better solution: Sony will ship out an unknown number of PS3s. Tons of people will camp out at stores days early. The manager knows how many PS3s they have, and knows it's way too few for the people waiting, but doesn't inform anyone in the crowd of this. The crowd devises their own numbering system based on who got there first. At midnight, the manager refuses to recognize the numbering system and says whoever can run to a bin in the back and grab one then bring it up to the front will be able to buy it.

Yea, I know. But at least I will have piece of mind that mine will be comming soon. I'm sure all of those people who got their pre-orders pushed back will still get their system before I find one sitting on store shelves.

vhgong 11-30-05 09:36 AM

Any stores taking PS3 pre-orders yet?? This is one system i want at launch!!

Decker 11-30-05 09:40 AM

I don't think anyone will take preorders until the date and price are set. I'm hoping for info during the CES show in January.

tenaciousdave 11-30-05 10:25 AM

I found this gif about the boomerang on Joystiq.com.

joshd2012 11-30-05 10:29 AM

I don't think we'll see a price or release date at CES. Sony isn't going to reveal a Japanese release date and price at an American show. What we (hopefully) find out is an online network plan, and some playable demos of games.

There has to be an upcoming games show in Japan where they can make an announcement. Otherwise, they'll just have a press conference.

I will be pre-ordering this from a more legitimate place this time. I may even pre-order from two places just so I dont get tossed under the carpet again.

We would also like to thank some of the idiotic people in the trading forum for providing us a really good laugh. Sell a PS3 with sharp rug tooler weapons and they even believe this. Oh lord.

Didn't most stores take preorders before either the launch date or price of the Xbox 360 was revealed (I think at E3?). Ironically, the ones that waited to preorder after the announcements were probably left out in the cold on launch day.

I distinctly remember seeing preorder signs up and thinking that it was crazy because we had no idea how much the system would really be...

http://www.control-freaks.tv/

Scroll down and watch the "Motorstorm" video. The developer confirms that it was running real-time on a PS3, though with the AI and physics turned off. So it was running in game engine, but somewhat disabled. I hope they can stuff all those turned off processes inside the Cells so it doesn't affect how the game looks, but that will have to wait to be seen.
