Here's a shaky cam video of Gears of War gameplay.

HOLY SHIT

If that doesn't impress you, you have problems.

Someone might want to get a real host for it though, as that one will probably die fast.

Looks pretty good - just need to fix that framerate issue to make it playable.

Being that in that video it is being ran on an ATI X850 XT PE, and that the actual R500 GPU is at least 3-5x faster than it, I don't think it will be a problem.

That really depends on where the bottleneck is. Its not always the graphical capability.

True, but didn't they say that the CPU running in those alpha kits is only a dual core cpu (or was it 2 cpu's?). Either way, there seems like there are many parts that are much less powerful than the final spec's. I guess only time will tell, but I am going to remain hopeful.

It's also an unfinished game running on alpha hardware.

There's still alot to do on the software side of things as well.

hard to judge from a picture. The Zelda screens in the last EGM had a lot of jaggies, but I didn't notice them in the videos from E3.

I guess the things that's supposed to be impressive is the sheer number of bad guys on the screen at once. I wonder where they got all those yellow paisly shirts though?

But it is only like four different guys in bad shirts repeated a bunch of times. Can't the current hardware already do this?

No, they still have to render all the polygons for every character on screen.

Looks like crap regardless.

Not liking the lack HD cables. If you are going to great lengths to call this an HD console, and making sure that every game is in HD, why wouldn't you make your console HD usable right out of the box?

Yeah, I don't get that either. The console should have VGA/Component/DVI outputs on the console itself....Just like a DVD player. Maybe they will. It's ok if they only PROVIDE the VGA cables though....

Nice way to personalize the 360. Everyone does this already with their desktop picture or sound effects when clicking on icons on their PC.

I can certainly see this causing problems in trying to play across a level field of competition. Depending on the genre of the game, there is always an optimal controller (mouse+keyboard vs. thumbstick controller).

I don't know how old/new this news is, but I just learned of it today. Excellent move on Microsofts part.

The Play and Charge Kit is a 'must buy' for me. However, I'm also glad to see that the controller will accept normal double-A's too.

*All games will support custom soundtracks.
I don't think this will be appropriate for some games (especially when developers use a soundtrack to build/maintain a mood or to create a certain atmosphere. Still, at least it's supported for those who complained about the lack of custom soundtracks on the Xbox.

*Send vibrations and emoticons to each other
Hahaha! Take that you bastard...ZAP!

Yeah, I wish they were included. I guess they figured it might be a way to cut down on the selling price of the console. Sell it separately. They did that with the Xbox and got away with it, so...

To be fair, they are doing this already with Final Fantasy XI for PS2 and PC. They are going to add the Xbox360 to that list, so I don't think it will be that big of a problem. This is mostly a self fullfilling statement.

That is the problem I have with custom soundtracks in general. A videogame should use music like a movie does - to cause emotion. A great soundtrack can make a mediocre movie scene turn to gold. The same thing is true about videogames. A great game without good music can really destroy itself and I don't think most people will spend the time to match the soundtrack to the game like the developers did. It really only works in a select genre of games - so why enforce it on every game?

Well, Custom soundtracks is a NICE addition. You DO NOT have to change anything about the game, it's just NICE to have.

I mean, you can have SLAYER in the background while playing Doom 4

I do understand that some games are nice to have custom soundtracks, but in games where music is very important to the action that is currently going on - where there is a story to be told - I think its a jab at the creators of the game. These guys spend a good amount of time setting up the scene with just the right sound (hopefully) and changing it is like removing a piece of the story in some ways.

I guess its just a personal preference of mine.
