Empire Earth II

I'm about 4 hours into it so far. Its pretty tough. So far I'm impressed. You can't just mass up an army and throw them at the enemy. You need to micromanage the targets to their favored enemies, use formations, pull out the injured for healing.

I tried Empire Earth II and I didn't like it very much at all. Same goes for Stronghold. But yeah, it was tough.

What didn't you like about Empire Earth II? Just curious since I was thinking about getting this. The pictures + videos of this game remind me of Rise of Nations. How does it compare to that game?

I'm not really sure, maybe it was because I had played Rise of Nations, and it's nothing like that at all, which is a bad thing. Plus, I thought the first Empire Earth was better.

Some of the things I liked about Rise of Nations are the ability to march and attack in a formation, entrenching the units, having a unit strong against certain type(s) of other units and weak against others (most games have this anyway), and the ability to advance from a very primitive to a nuclear age. Also, the unique abilities for each nation really made a difference in the way you played or the strategy you used (some were good at rushing early on while some were best at gathering resources, etc.)

Based on the above and what I read about Empire Earth II, I thought it would be a game I would enjoy.

For some reason, I have been for a RTS civilization game. I still need to play Homeworld 2, but for some reason I can't get the urge to build nations out of my head. I'm reading the review of 'Rise of Nations' right now as I don't think EE, AOE, or Civ is my can of soup. Any others I should look into?

Also, my friend just got offered a job at Big Huge Games. He's says to look for them at E3.

None that I can think of at the moment.

That is on their website. Unfortunately he isn't talking about it. Only saying that from what he saw, it looks amazing.

I saw this on their website too but didn't know what to make of it. They've already released an expansion to Rise of Nations so who knows.

I do like how the clock is set to 5:10 and 5 seconds My guess is a new game, but I can't make out what it is. We need some photoshop geniuses to get that image clearer.

The reflection on the face of the clock shows a guy who appears to be drunk out of his mind and wearing a bomber jacket.
Perhaps an American Airlines flight sim?

I have the EE2 single-player demo, but I just can't get into it. I think I've overdosed on civ-building RTS games, plus when I played the first one, I was a big Age of Empires fan, and I didn't feel like relearning a whole new set of rock-scissors-paper relationships for all the units. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

I loved Rise of Nations (which to me, felt more like AOE), but again, remembering what all the units were (and all the upgrades) was kind of a pain.

Isn't there an option to turn off all special/unique abilities?
Or maybe I'm confusing this with another game.

Then I'm sure you would enjoy it. Your above description is a lot like how Empire Earth 2 plays. I played the original to death and I'm having a lot of fun with the sequel as well. I'd recommend it highly to any fans of the genre. It also helps kill time until AOE3 is out!

Not yet. I haven't had a chance to.
What little time I have for gaming right now is all going to Forza Motorsport on the Xbox.
