I finally got a copy after checking about maybe 10+ stores. Most were sold out, never got it, or had pre-orders only. Haven't got a chance to play it yet unfortunely, but I watched my friend play against 2 of the Colossi. Looked so diverse and fun.

Can't wait to get a chance to play the copy I got.

Ok, I'm on the last Colossi (I'm taking my time). This game is awesome. So far only two of them have really frustrated me (#10 and #12), but other than that it's been great. Funny thing is that both were actually really easy, I just couldn't figure it out for some reason.

Spoiler:
My two favorite Colossi so far have been the big eagle looking one, and the long serpent in the lake that takes you for a swim. I thought both of those were very unique. I'd say the sand worm that takes flight is freakin' awesome as well. Having to run after him and jump off your horse onto him full speed was one of the most exhilirating moments I've had gaming in a long time. Hope you guys are having as much fun with this game as I am. Hopefully I'll be done with it soon, and time to try to go for the unlockables.

I'm actually confused by that... A lot of action/adventure games range in the 6 - 12 hour range, have for years, and now that's considered short? Grand Theft Auto aside, Action/Adventure games just aren't all that long. RPGs are another thing all together. Some games have more unlockables, sure, but to actually go out and beat em, most are relatively short... or just repetitive as hell.

a 6 - 12 hour game usually takes me about a month to beat just due to time management, lasts a good deal - play it in spurts. Rare occasions being when I'm hooked on a storyline (Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy most recently).

I just beat Colossus #7 and I am loving this game so far. I like how the game takes advantage of what you know about previous Colossi weaknesses and turns it on its head. Colossus #7 somewhat frustrated me because I didn't know how to get on it, even then it was a challenge not to die while on it's back.

Not even halfway through the game and I am tremendously impressed by this game. I've been waiting for an adventure game like this for quite some time now

Beat this today. I have to say, of the 16 Colossi, the last one was the weakest. The ending was fantastic. Somehow I wasn't expecting such a long ending. Don't want to spoil anything, so if you've finished it I'd love to know what you think of the ending.

2 more to go for me! Will finish it tonight. This game is ridiculous (as in ridiculously good). I feel like I'm the main character in a movie when I play it. I feel like it's a metaphor for life in some ways with the colossi representing seemingly insurmoutnable challenges. Looking forward to seeing the ending tonight.

Oh and the music in the game is amazing. Love the opening chorus flute piece.

You mean:

Spoiler:
You didn't fall off once? From hand to arm or bicep to hand? With the controls not being the best I found it extremely frustrating and I kept falling off only to have to scale it over and over again. But after I got the hang of it I did it quickly. It was still to me the hardest boss. As far as the ending goes, I admit it was a very artistic choice and put all the pieces of the puzzle together but I was extremely disappointed to find out I was ethically involved with releasing a demon spirit (without my prior knowledge). And being a Christian it goes against my spiritual principles. That's just me though.

But it is just a game.... plus, there is redemption in the end too, Lord whatever his name even said it.

Ok so I finished last night. What a great frickin game although I didn't like the last Colossus at all. He seemed to break from what the game had been throwing at you thus far and plus I felt like
Spoiler:
I was riding a bull once I got to the top with all the bucking and moving he was doing. Very frustrating.

As for the ending I thought it was pretty cool. My theory is
Spoiler:
that the baby found in the pool by the girl is actually ICO. Did you notice the little horns on his head? And the reason he gets banished in ICO is that he finds his way out of the wasteland and back to the village. They think he's still cursed so they put him in exile at the castle. Also the shadow creatures are actually remnants of the Colossi from this game. The shadows surrounding the hero whenever he defeated a colussus and ended back at the shrine look almost exactly the same as the shadow creatures from ICO. I also think that Yorda, the girl from ICO is actually a spiritual reincarnation of the girl from Shadow. She probably died which is why the boy escapes the badlands and goes back to the village.

I really liked the image of the broken horse coming back into the temple and coming up to the girl. Very touching. I almost thought the girl wasn't going to wake up after all the boy went through.

As for the trickery, I think it was pretty cool that you were being mislead. Not the kind of curve ball you normally get from games these days. Also raises some interesting questions from a spiritual perspective:
- Was the light from sky indicative of a diety or higher power?
- Should you always do as you are told by an authority?
- Is bringing back a loved one worth it at any cost?
- Are the "bad guys" always bad or is it a matter of perspective?

Just amazing that a game can make you contemplate all that.

Overall I'm surprised they made a game with such high production values and amazing graphics so late into the PS2 life cycle (couldn't believe how many polys the PS2 was pushing in some scenes!). I know the game wont sell much but damn people are missing something special if they don't play it.

I am currently on Colossus #15. I love this game. One of my favorites/best of this year hands down.

beat it a couple days ago. clocked in about 9 1/2 hours on it. Colossus #16 is nutty. I have heard a lot of people complaining about the controls, and even though they didnt bother me for the first 15 Colossi, the controls got on my nerves when it came to the last one. constantly falling down got annoying after a while .

I never played Ico (give or take 10-15 minutes of it at my friends house), so I think after beating this game, I have to track down a copy and check it out.

I just got a used copy the other day at Gamestop for 14.99. So, it shouldn't be hard to find.

How did you get it for $14.99? The website is still saying $34.99 for a used copy. Anyone else can confirm this, because I'd jump on it if its true.

edit: whoops! n/m, I'm an idiot who can't read :\

I believe he's talking about ICO and not Shadow of the Colossus. I know you can find a copy of ICO for that price because my local EB also has used copies for the same.

Yeah, sorry, I was talking about Ico. (If I had found Shadow for that price I'd be selling them at full price

Can someone please explain to me how they beat the last colossus. I can get on him and find a few locations but the frustration of continuously falling off of him is really starting to piss me off. I have had no trouble with any of the first 15 colossus but this one is driving me crazy. PS2 almost didn't survive last night, and It takes a lot to push me to that point.

Check www.gamefaqs.com for a good summary of how to beat him.

Basically you have to
Spoiler:
climb to his lower back and stab him, jump on his hand, climb up to his upper arm and stab him there, jump to his other hand, stab him there, shoot his left shoulder with an arrow, jump on his shoulder and run to his head to stab away as normal.
I didn't like him either compared to the other ones.

Thank you. I was doing everything except for the
Spoiler:
shot him in the shoulder part. I was just trying to jump to his neck/head area first which wasn't working and thus resulting in a fall. (rendering me pretty pissed after about almost 2 hours of this)

My local Walmart is the only one I've checked. Even if you can't find it new, Gamestop routinely sells used ones for under $15.

Yeah my local EB has a used copy (forgot for how much) but I'm leary of purchasing used games (still haven't bought a non-new game). But thanks for the info, NC-36.

So does Fry's still have Shadow of the Colossus for $37 or was that a one-time deal?

Just finished this game. I liked it, but was maybe a little disappointed, after all the ridiculously high scores it has been getting.

The collosi themselves were quite good, and the battles were fun, but I was a bit disappointed in the controls, and handling the horse (especially the invisible walls you'd run into, when approaching an area the game thinks you shouldn't be going). The camera was wonky at times, too.

As for the 16th collosus, how is everyone
Spoiler:
falling off him all the time? The only time I even came close to falling off him was when jumping from his upper arm to his hand, and I would just grab onto his arm again when I'd miss, and climb up a little and try again
.

The graphics were fine, but I though
Spoiler:
the world itself was under-developed; since there were birds and lizards around, I was wondering where everything else was. Also all the travelling you have to do through this almost empty world to reach the next collosus seemed like a way to add length to the game without adding any real content.

I give it an 86%

I just beat this, and my thought on the ending:
Spoiler:
I don't think the child is ICO, but the first of his kind. In ICO, it is said at some point that a child with horns is born every 100 years (At least that's what I remember, but could be wrong, maybe it's in a manual or some place else). When ICO is entombed, it appears hundreds of tombs have been filled already. The shadow creatures also had horns.

So, I think the girl, or her body, from Colossus is the queen thousands of years in the future. She built a land and castle over that time, and every 100 years, the next boy was brought to her, and the shadowy essence released. ICO, however, got a chance to redeem his ancestor by being freed and escaping with the girl.

Emon says at the end of this game what could one do in a cursed land. Well, I think we see it in ICO, and she may even have some how started the tribes that ICO eventually comes from.

That still leaves many, many questions my wife and I have. Did the god lead the boy there? Does the hawk contain the god's essence, or the girl's? Was the girl's soul lost, is that the god in her body now? How did the girl die originally, the god? And so on and so on. I love this open ending with so many questions and answers I can make up.

My only disappointment with the story was that I saw part of the end coming. I knew killing the colossi was bad, the game made that painfully obvious with music, etc. So, it is hard to justify continuing without knowing how much this girl means to the character. Beyond doing something bad though, I wasn't expecting the rest.
