Huh?
|
yeah, because PS3 will be backwards-compatible. Its not being remade for PS3.
|
It's most definitely being remade on the PS3 as of right now....of course, anything could change. I know that you have no reason to believe me, then again I have no reason to lie :) Let's just say that living in San Diego and working in the gaming industry have introduced to me to many people...some of which could be working on/testing various PS3 projects.
|
I thought that the ICO team was working on a whole new project for the PS3, not an existing game?
|
Perhaps Sony has someone else porting it? I really don't know too much else.

Thanks for bumping this thread BTW, it gave me the urge to revisit this game since i gave up on it after i think #6 because i couldn't find the next boss and got tired of riding around looking for him. Just beat #10 last night, can't wait to beat it and see the ending!

Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Alright, since my 360 is out for repairs I bumped this to the top of my Gamefly queue to see what the hype was about. Got it in the mail today, went through 3 Colossi so far. I even read through this entire thread just to get my bearings. Here is my response:
:hscratch: :wtf: [rant] How this game got such high marks and is regarded so well is blowing my mind. An average of 91 on Metacritic? Seriously, wtf game did I get from Gamefly? I'll give the concept an A, but actual execution? D- First there is the paper thin plot. Our androgynous hero needs to kill 16 bosses to awaken sleeping beauty for a lesbian(?) affair? Why? Then there is the barren wasteland of an overworld that simply exists to pad out the gameplay. Move to the atrocious controls which have nothing on the gawd awful camera. Then there is the horse with equally shitty controls. Shit, Epona from a Zelda game a generation prior controlled better than this gimped pony. Toss in a little screen tearing and clipping and you have yourself a nice recipe for mediocrity. After fighting the camera and controls for 30 minutes on the third boss I threw in the towel. It's already back in the Gamefly envelope. I will give Team Ico credit for the idea and the huge bosses (even though I only saw 3). Loved the idea, hate pretty much everything else about it. [/rant] |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Corvin obviously isn't part of the Games As Art campaign. ;) I've never played it -so I can't comment.

Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I guess you could say I'm a fan of function over form.
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I agree with how terrible the story is. If you play the game all the way through, they THEN tell you the story. It's maybe a 7-minute cut scene after you beat the last colossi and the whole story happens. It's crazy. Not to mention the absurdity of riding the horse everywhere. It was like Wind Waker all over again. (But the colossi fights themselves are pretty amazing.)
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
The fights were cool, but I also felt that I had to fight the camera and controls a little too much. Never did finish it. Stopped at the big turtle guy.

Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I thought this game was beautiful, awe-inspiring, and original. And I've heard so many good things about the (eventual) story/ending.
Having said that, I never made it all the way through either, despite giving it my best on 3 separate occasions. Mainly a control issue. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Agree, the game has a wonderful concept and nice execution but it is an absolute chore to play. Just isn't all that entertaining, though it is a nice piece of "interactive art" to an extent. ICO was worlds better.

Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Yeah, I gotta agree with Corvin on this one.
I actually just recently popped in the game to see how it looks/plays on the PS3 (pretty well), and I was taken aback by what an actually bad game it is. Sure, the art-direction is impeccable, and it's sense of scale and the mood it invokes are all very well done - but it's just not fun. Seriously, from the horrible camera to the clunky controls to the just flat out boring gameplay, this is a serious case of the emperors new robes - well, in this case, the emperor's not exactly naked, but he's only wearing a wife-beater. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I liked Penny Arcade's take on the game:
The game needs to be seen by every conscious organism on planet Earth. And if that means that you must play it in order to do so, that is your cross to bear. I'm being facetious. Well, I'm being a little facetious. Thus far, the frustration has not been outweighed by the allure. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Well clearly I'm not alone, but then the question begs, since the game is so flawed how did it such high marks and become as revered as it is?
I had my eye on the Last Guardian(and another reason I bumped this up to rent now), but with Shadow of the Colossus making up 50% of their body of work, I'm left wondering why there is so much hype around it. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I thought that SOTC was great and that all of the bosses were well done and a few of them really challenging. I don't remember the controls being such a problem but maybe I just got used to them.
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
The clunkier controls were a little more common around the time of release.
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games ever. Absolutely amazing environment and world IMO. The vastness and emptiness of the world only makes me feel that much more alone when playing. (And the fact that the game conveyed that emotion to me while playing is a bonus IMO.) Never once did I view it as a tool to pad length.

Still not sure how I feel about the ending. It was ok, I guess I was just expecting something else from it. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
I still get the urge to revisit this game all the time, but man the controls and camera...
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
It seems The Last Guardian may have been cancelled. Although the article does point out that there's a chance that it's simply that the title of the game is being changed.

Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Looks like it's nothing to worry about.
http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/17/805...rademark-error An administrative error in the handling of The Last Guardian's trademark has forced Sony, again, to issue reassurances that the game still is in development. Sony, to GameSpot, Videogamer.com and others, confirmed that The Last Guardian remains in development by Team Ico. It was discovered this weekend that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had listed Sony's trademark on The Last Guardian as abandoned because no one had answered a request to make a statement of the trademark's use or file an extension to do so. VentureBeat noted that Sony has filed the trademark with an intent to use it, not as a trademark on an existing product. Sony was required to check in with the USPTO every six months over a span of three years, either to show it was using the trademark or make an extension. VentureBeat also noted that the Sony lawyer in charge of filing the trademark notice no longer is with the company. The Last Guardian's development is led by Fumito Ueda, the designer behind the critically acclaimed Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Sony has had to repeatedly deny the game's cancellation in the long span since the game's announcement at E3 2009. At E3 2014, Shuhei Yoshida, the head of Sony's worldwide studios, reiterated that The Last Guardian was in development and, to squelch future rumors, said if the game ever was canceled Sony would make a formal announcement of that. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
The Team Ico games are some of my favorite PlayStation games of all time. It would be a travesty if The Last Guardian never releases, although I do grow weary of the drama surrounding its release.
It's sad to think that the first videos for it were shown almost 6 years ago. |
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Jesus. Really that long ago? Damn.
|
Re: Shadow of the Colossus! (Ico pseudo-sequel)
Yeah, it was first shown at E3 2009, after a leak spoiled the reveal prior:
