I actually just bought an account from someone for $18 this morning. I've only played it for about an hour, but it seems kind of fun. I just needed a break from EQ2, and I am not ready to go back to WoW yet.

Is factions out yet? I haven't played GW since it first came out. It just wasn't my type of game. Factions did look kind of interesting though for an expansion.

Factions is out Friday and is actually a stand-alone title.. (though you can bring in characters from Ch1 and bypass the first area)

Factions places more emphasis on pvp, the toughness factor can make it difficult to complete with just henchmen..imo.

The Collector's edition looks awesome (the art book and soundtrack especially) but it looks like it's in short supply and will be a wk late in the US.

Hmm I thought I read also something about professions in GW: Factions also. I am kind of itching to play something but GW didn't really grab me when I tried it. I didn't care for it once I left the starting area.

For those that played GW all the way through, can you help me? I finished all the missions... so now what? I still haven;t joined a guild. Does doing so unlock other stuff?

I have been dabbling in this game and it is definitely fun. It is a nice diversion from the traditional MMORPG

My friend actually wants this for his bday which is today . I see that there a few versions available. Are they all add on packs? Will the night fall one work alone or do you need all of them to play? I am not sure how all these different versions work? Hopefully I can pass by a store and pick it up before I head over tonight.

They are seperate worlds somewhat. Basicly for you two to play you would need to pick up the same game. They do all work alone so you don't need the others to play though. I don't know about classes though.

From the Guild Wars FAQ

Is Nightfall an expansion pack or a stand-alone game?

Nightfall is a stand-alone product. Those who own Prophecies and/or Factions are not required to purchase Nightfall in order to continue playing on their game account, and those who purchase Nightfall may play it without purchasing Prophecies and/or Factions. However, there is a high level of interconnection between the three games that makes having all of them an exceptional experience.

Is there separate content in each of the Guild Wars campaigns?

Yes. Because each Guild Wars campaign is self-standing, it is possible for a player to enjoy the contents of one, two, or all three games. Each campaign offers a complete experience through an engaging story and gameplay mechanics that are unique to that particular campaign. Players who own all three campaigns and have chosen to link their accounts may have their characters travel back and forth at will between the regions of Tyria, Cantha, and Elona. In addition, each campaign offers access to the PvP-oriented Battle Isles. Naturally, there will be content that spans the three campaigns that will make having all of them very appealing.

so the quests requires a group or can you play it alone?

How easy is it to find people to group with to do quests?

Still don't really understand how this game works after reading the gamespot review. What do you get out of completing quests? Can you start up your own game and just level your character by killing mobs?

Is it better to buy the first game?
Would I be missing much by just jumping into NightFalls?

If you do not find or want to party with others you can just fill your party with Mercs. It is pretty easy to find people to party, and this is based on Guilds so you should find one to join before too long. I have only played the first one and it was fun. The quest are what get you the most experience and give you a reason to go out and kill mobs.

I have all 3 Guild wars. It is fun in spurts. It is by no means a WOW or EQ killer. But with no monthly fees it is well worth the initial investment! My character's name is Kunane Luevan

does the new version (Nightfall) offer any extra features (Besides new contents) over the original GuildWars?

The original is cheaper since its been out longer.
Should I pick up the original or go for the newest version (Nightfalls)?
Are the graphics about the same between the 3 versions?

Well Nightfall Introduces Heroes. Which are more powerful henchmen. A much welcome addition to the game.

I heard that the henchmen are really weak as you level up.
Are the hero henchmen usable in the higher lvl missions?

Well Heroes level up as well. You can also equip Heroes with items you find while playing so they are a LOT more powerful then the level restricted henchmen. Lets just say I was very frustrated playing through a lot of the missions and tasks prior to Nightfall and the Hero system really opened the game up for me!

Just picked up Nightfall myself, runs pretty well on the macbook pro. I played a lot of the original Guild wars, but haven't played since around Febuary last year.

I'd jump straight to the latest game, Nightfall, myself, it's reportedly meant to be the best.

looks like it just went onsale at gogamers for $28.

http://www.gogamer.com/Guild-Wars--N...VVviewprod.htm

how many hours can you get out of it?
I heard that the max lvl is lvl20, which seems pretty limiting.
Also, there is no PvP, so nothing to do after you hit lvl 20?

Your level is just one way of improving your character. Beyond that you will be looking to collect all the different skills for your character class, which most people won't ever do. Also getting maximum equipment is not so easy. In addition, there are a number of "cool" cosmetic things which can theoretically take a lot of time to earn. The idea with the level cap and the limit of 8 equipped skills is that everyone ends up on a level playing field fairly quickly.

I would have played the original GW at least a 100 hrs in PvE. No sure what you mean by no PvP, that's a pretty integral part of GW.

picked this game up for 30 bucks shipped from gogamer and liking it so far.
Questions -
1. do you try to salvage as much as possible if you have a salvage kit or should you save your salvage kit for more important/rare items?

2. How do you add someone into your friend list? In the gui, it says "click here to add a friend". I tried it, but all it does is allow you to type something, but there is no option to save afterwards.

3. anyone find it weird that char names have to be 2 words? how do you msg someone with a space in their name?

1. You only need the resources once you start to craft weapons and armour at the crafters for each. In general it's better to just sell the items you don't need unless they're either magical or highly salvagable. Magical means you can use the more expensive salvage kit to remove the runes/etc (after you id the item). Highly salvageable means you'll get much higher than the normal amount for salvaging. Anyway there are some pretty extensive guides on the net so I'd try google "guild wars salvage kit guide faq" or similar. Most importantly you don't really need to know this stuff in detail to enjoy the game .

2. You should be able to just hit enter after typing the name.

3. Kind of forces more variety in the names I guess, and I do think having the full name, first and last, comes off more natural in the context of the game. Btw, I'm pretty sure it's 2 or more words so you can be <name> the great, or something.

As for the messaging thing, I don't seem to recall it being any big deal, but I can't load up GW in osx to check .

Btw, you can always buy the resources you need from a material trader, but it does tend to be more fun to collect them yourself. Plus it's also a way to make money in the game.
