okay so i finally break down and put in crimson skies, this time i tell myself i'm going to learn how to play the game and not get sick. to make a long story short i'm sticking with halo.

Not bad games again last night. It's been awhile on any CTF game. Heck it's been awhile with Halo period. Only downside was not one game of "Fight Club". That's one of the best laughs I get when playing. I'll check in Fri and for sure Sat. night. I'm penciling in Sunday night. Need more folks!

Have you guys been doing much matchmaking lately? The amount of cheating going on is getting pretty fucking ridiculous. When we played on Tuesday night, I think we played Coagulation 4 times total, and got dummy-cheated on three of them. -ohbfrank- Can NOT wait for that patch to come out. Anyone else heard the rumor that it's going to be out April 12th? Probably not true, but it has me salivating anyway. :)

i haven't been on very much and i know a lot of us have been working a lot, but cheaters just plain suck.

I've been lucky to hook up with Bean, TJ, and sometimes Duster on custom games with "Pete" and his friends. By far it's just plain fun and not having to worry about any cheating is even better. I mean all these guys just rock as far as I'm concerned. I'd still like to get 4-6 together for team matches if possible.

It's funny you should mention this. In this months issue of OXM theres a small piece from a staff member about why so many Halo2 players seem to be obsessed about ranking and stats. It's that drive to get a higher ranking and more "kills" that sometimes drives cheaters. Even at the cost of fair players. But he went on to say that even he became obsessed with that "10" or more rank number besides his name. They started losing big one night and saw their rankings go down. He finally quit and steamed in frustration. He then realized he wasn't having fun anymore and for a silly reason such as rank. Since then he's playing more custom and "training" matches where ranking has no merit or matters. It's become fun again.

the whole ranking system is retarded. i can see rankings for sports, but a FPS come on. i mean i'm a lvl 8, but i'll play customs all night long with guys that are lvl 15 and higher and have no problem holding my own. and from what i can tell when you get into the high ranks it isn't how well you can play it is how well your can cheat. but that is comming from a handful of guys i know.

Ranks are a good idea to me. I base this on the idea of how badly I was getting my ass handed to me when Halo 2 first came out. Back then everyone was a low ranking person and I would just get stomped by some of the people that I played. Example, Rumble Pit... I never won a game the first 30 or 40 times I played cuz that was all I did back then. Thing is, that was pretty much what everyone was doing so I was always matched up with people who were much better then me, but cuz the game was new they had a low ranking. Now that they have earned their way up to a 16 or 17 I find that the people that I play against in the pit are much better matched to my skill. 4 of the 5 wins that I have are in the last 15 pit games that I played, and even if I do not win, I normally place in the top 3. I could'nt say that back in Nov. and Dec.

What I wish they would do is just hide the rankings. You have no idea what you are, so you have no need to cheat for that all elusive rank of 50.

Agreed. I say, keep the ranks, but don't let anyone know what they are. Then step 2 would be to do a better job of matchmaking people against people that are of a similar rank. If they could do that, it would solve a lot of the problems. People wouldn't know what rank they are, so they wouldn't be so obsessed with getting it to go up, but we would still have some balance to the matchmaking. Probably pipe dreams, but I'll keep hoping. :) At least the patch will fix some of the problems, when it finally gets here.

Yes the patch will fix some problems with more problems to come. It is like any other software fixes something and someone somewhere is going to find something else to break. I think the all time fix would be to trash the rankings and send government subsidized firing squads to the cheaters houses to shoot off some of their fingers. Harsh maybe, but cheating would probably be on a downward fall.

Any of you guys play last night? I wanted to but working in the yard both Sat. and Sunday just took a toll on me. The sun was out both days and I now know what a Lobster feels like boiled. Anyone going to try tonight or in the next day or so? I know there's more interest about "Crimson's Sky's" online play. It really doesn't matter which one everyone wants to play. Just post and let me know.

Oh one thing; I picked up the April issue of OXM. It has demo's of Jade Empire and Area51. It has (5) downloads for Halo2 which I haven't done or checked out. I'll have to play both demo's again to give them a score. "Jade" seemed slow compared to UC2. OXM gave it a sloid 9.4 though! "Area51" reminds me allot of Half Life. Apparently OXM thinks it belongs back in that same period. Good graphics but mid-90's design. Add so-so sound and lack of "bot" help after mid-way thru and they gave it a 6.8.

One note to those that would love a "mega" team battle online. The upcoming "Black Hawk Down" might feel the need. The staff played in a ..(56) player battle. Not once but four times and accordiing to them there wasn't any noticeable lag. Asked about communication. You'll be able to talk to only those within a certain radius. From some of the shots it really looks pretty good.You can ride in several vehicles including choppers from which you can fire from. Well I'll see all of you later on.

Yeah, I played last night. Didn't see anyone from the clan, so played a lot of custom games with Strange, Dutin, TJ, HI, Go Lucky, Pete, etc.

i'm not going to be playing for awhile i'm sick, and my head feels like it is going to explode. so whoever wants to be in charge for awhile um... you're in charge now. :)
