Anybody remember Sierra games on their old apples or pcs?

Police Quest, Hero's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest. I particularly enjoyed Hero's Quest, Space Quest, and Larry. In the era of remakes, why can't they remake all those sierra games? Those games were the originators of rpg games, and imo much more open ended and interactive. Gameplay didn't consist of many battles like rpgs nowadays.

MAkes me wanna pull out my apple IIc w/ all those 5 1/2 disks (remember those flimsy black things?)

None of those are really RPG's... they're all part of the adventure game genre. But yes, they were all very fun (font memories of Space Quest and Kings Quest here)

Hell yeah, the Apple IIc!
I remember King's Quest (created by Williams) and Leisure Suit Larry. These games were fun during their time. I would love to play them again in their original forms/build.

RPG's?
Well, that's more like Wizardry and The Bard's Tale. Now these are classics.

"________ Quest" games were the best. I remembering going over to my friend's house and trying to figure how to get that Robot Bounty Hunter in SQ IV off our tail and I suggest he swing the hook and chain at her and it worked!

I'll always remember that.

Ah, memories of these gems bring tears to my eyes....

I would love it if they brought these back, but I've been holding my breath for an Ultima III re-release. I figure they could at least port it over to game boy, or even an electronic watch for that matter!

It all started on my IBM PCjr. I got the first Kings Quest. Never been the same since. From there I ended up spending $40 for each one that came out after that. I have all of the sierra games including Gold Rush, Thexder, and that mystery game Colonel's Quest.

Just go here...
http://www.abandonia.com/genre.php?g...lgames&page=13

Most, if not all, of those old Sierra games are considered abandonware... no longer supported by the developer, and as far as I can tell, free to download. They cannot be purchased anywhere... not even from Sierra, so I *think* these downloads are perfectly legal. There are many places in the abandonware ring that they can be found. This is just one of those places.

Just remember, for added copyright protection, a lot of those Sierra games had little clues only found in the manual that were needed as you progressed through the game. For example, King's Quest III had a whole bunch of recipes for spells that were listed in the manual. If you got to that point in the game and didn't have official manual with the ingredients, you were stuck.

Some of the manuals can be found on these sites too.

(Also, the Police Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory [Hero's Quest] Games are all there too!!)

The Quest for Glory series was one of my favorite series ever. I never found QfG 3, and couldn't ever beat QfG 4 (something would always glitch) But this should be awesome, thanks

They're not, but Sierra's not going to come after you.

Always check with the company first. LucasArts still sells Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, etc. If you want to get, say, Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, however, your only option is buying secondhand or an abandonware site.

Oh, man, guys. Thank you for that link, 19k!

I grew up on these games. Some of my earliest memories are watching my uncle play through the first King's Quest (they were the first family I knew to own a computer.) And it was the King's Quest games that helped me learn to read and write. My aunt would write all the most common words/commands on post-it notes stuck around the edges of the monitor (things like "open door" and "pick up torch" etc.) and I'd be able to play the game by matching up the letters on the post-it note with the ones on the keyboard. Honest.

But, yeah, I remember ALL of these. Quest for Glory, Space Quest, Police Quest. I couldn't find Conquests of Camelot on this site, but I'm still more than satisfied.

I just fired up Quest for Glory, and I think the theme song and the opening screen may have brought a tear to my eye. Wow.

Police Quest was my favorite of these, but I wasn't a huge fan. Too many "puzzles" involved clicking the right random pixel in a sea of similarly colored pixels.

I much preferred the Infocom text adventurers, this was a source of great debate between my friends and I.

Loved the games. I actually own all 5 Quest for Glory games still and have the boxes and CD's nearby.

The "Quest" games are fondly remembered classics in my house. I also remember Thexder and Sierra's Black Cauldron game which was basically a scaled down version of the King's Quest games. Those were the "good old days..."

I know you can't get any of the LucasArts games for free. Although some of them are listed, the only option is to "Buy It." Those games (Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Full Throttle, etc.) are just as good, if not better. IMO, LucasArts and Sierra were the king of the pre-Windows video game era.

I thought Sierra pretty much went out of business (or was bought out) which is why these games have pretty much been forgotten. Also, there all DOS based which makes them a little more difficult to support on todays computers. If you're running XP, you're gonna either need DOSBox or VDMSound to correctly emulate the old SoundBlaster cards, especially on the later games.

I've looked for that game everywhere. Although it was published by Sierra, I think it was actually developed by a different company. It's another one of those games (like the LucasArts games) that's still protected and not available for free.

Here is the Camelot game, but as 19k said, it's not available for download. Not on this site at least.

Check that, I found it right here:

http://www.christymarx.com/writing/camelotfiles.htm

I just searched it in Google, so I hope I am not breaking any rules. If so, mods just delete my link.

EDIT: After looking at the site more, it looks like maybe that is the site of the person that created the game. So obviously it's legit.

Anyone remember an online RPG called The Realm made by Sierra?

I used to love drinking a potion of invisibility, waiting outside someone's house for the door to open, and sneaking in to steal everything. Many times I would even trick people into opening their chests and steal all their gold.

I remember that. An early MMORPG. I couldn't get into it, but it had some interesting concepts and nice graphics (for the time).

It's true that most rpgs today are more like the adventure games of old (with random encounters, minigames and a bit of stat building tacted on).

Also adventure games are still around. Shenmue is probably the modern incarnation of the adventure game genre although I'm not sure if this form will ever take off. The Broken Sword series plays very much like how I remember the old sierra game, just in slightly more complex 3d environments. Also a number of games that are classed as first person shooters do have significant adventure elements.

I used to love these games. I think my love for Resident Evil grew out of those games, as RE was largely like those games, but with action and horror tossed into the equation.

If you're interested, there's a group out there building an unofficial sequel to Kings Quest that unlike part 8, follows in the same type of game play as the originals. Here's the website for those interested: http://www.kq9.org/

Also, if you want, this group http://www.agdinteractive.com/KQ2.php has made updated remakes of Kings Quest 1 and 2, using graphics more in line with the later games in the series (5 and 6) and of course the normal point and click interface.

Also, if you never played Space Quest 6, here's a site that gives it away. I figure since this site stays up and no one bothers them, I'm guessing it's kosher. Feel free to remove my link if it's not. http://www.spacequest.net/sq6/thegame/

If you're looking for more recent games in the adventure genre, though limited, there are a few games out there. Syberia 1 and 2 comes to mind, while The Longest journey is perhaps the best out there. That game is getting a sequel coming out in the next year or so.
