this is probably a stupid question, but do you need anything special for 1080i? i thought HDTVs used the DVI or whatever hookups because components only supported up to 480p, and if not why the hell do they have the different connections?

Component will do 1080i or 720p. DVI and HDMI are digital, component is analog. In theory, DVI should look a little better but I couldn't tell a difference between component and HDMI on my HD TiVo. Then again, the HDMI port on the high def TiVo is crap.

So, I have my PS2 running component and I have an HD "ready" TV, so I will get 1080i? Is this available direct from the PS2 or does it need go go through a HDTV box?

Component from the PS2 to the TV is all you need. Unfortunately, there is no option to save the selected video mode, so you have to switch to 1080i every time you start up...

I didn't realize the PS2 could do 1080i. I thought it was 480p only through component cables.

Sorry, I was talking about component's capabilities in general. But GT4 is supposed to do 1080i isn't it?

one of my big gripes on all the gt games are the so called in car view, the view just does'nt work, no telling where your front fenders are and then whack into a car or marker.
a few games have done incar view right, toca series, lemans 24 hours and gran prix challenge to name a few.

I can't play the game in any view but in-car view.I don't have any problems bumping into stuff unexpectedly.

Me neither, that's like three weeks away, you'd probably pass out after only a couple of minutes.

However, http://www.us.playstation.com/pressreleases.aspx?id=249 .

new psm issue shows how to play online with a little trickery, i'll have to try it when it's out.

can't wait to play with the new wheel, it works great with toca 2.
