Whats going on with GT4?

Did a search and couldn't come up with much, does anyone know whats going on with GT 4 and when it is suppose to be released? I thought orginally it was going to be released before christmas but it got moved back. Does anyone know why it got moved back?

It got delayed because it wasn't ready. Per Gamespot:

Release Date: Q1 2005

They had to delay the release so they could remove more key features.

Trigger 01-26-05 01:19 PM

it looked finished to me 2 e3s ago. I think they're stalling so they can have it as a system launch title for the next gen.

Seriously, haven't we been seeing things on this game for at least three years?

I'm not at all interested in the game but anytime I see something about it I always think "That's not out yet?"

I know that they removed the online game play but what else have the removed? I saw the list of cars and it looked pretty good and the tracks looked good as well. I'm really looking forward to this game but have a bad feeling that they have over-hyped it so much that they'll keep delaying the game to try and live up to the hype.

When did we get that free toyota demo disc? Seems like a year ago to me.

It was just a smart arse assumption. :)

I can't even remember how long it's been since I played that free Toyota demo someone posted here. Trigger could be right about using it as a launch title for the next gen PS. Who knows, he's been right at least once in recent memory.

Trigger 01-26-05 01:38 PM

I've been right quite often, thank you very much.

Don't be offended - my memory isn't what it used to be. :p

My theory is they are having trouble getting those great looking screenshots to run in real time with little to no slowdown.

There is a pretty good import review over at www.computerandvideogames.com

I don't know, the PS3 is probably not coming till 2006, and I'm not sure how portable ps2 stuff is over to the cell architecture (not very portable at all based on what i've read about cell) - apart from content like art, models etc i guess.

It's a little different with Halo 2.5, where I presume directx will make it easier for them to scale up the xbox2 architecture.

DamingR 01-26-05 05:43 PM

Yeah, it's out in Japan. Supposed to be out here March 15th or so...

Josh H 01-26-05 07:05 PM

Yeah, no way it's getting pushed to PS3 since the Japanese version is out. Plus the ads are beginning here, there's a two page spread in the new Gamepro.

asabase 01-26-05 07:22 PM

I bought a PS2 just for this game. Then they push it back twice on me. Then I find out there won't be a 300C in it. Argh.

Trigger 01-26-05 08:52 PM

well, I've been wrong before too. ;)

roachie17 01-26-05 10:55 PM

Presumably, the extra delay is to remove the hard disk feature that would have enabled players to store pics of their cars. It is to keep in line with the new slim PS2 which does not support a hard disk.

Maxflier 01-27-05 08:44 AM

I saw a GT4 commercial on TV the other day,so maybe it is getting close to actually being released.

discostu1337 01-27-05 12:35 PM

I work at gamestop....release date is 'february' but I tell everyone it'll come out by christmas :) Oddly, the strategy guide has a more precise date of 3/8/05 I believe.

Apparently you can store pics of your cars on a USB memory key.

I have the import version, and my only real complaint is that some of the overpowered prize cars are too easy to get. I know you don't have to have to use the best car for the races, but the temptation to take something like the Cadillac Cion (700+ hp) out for the beginner races is too much for me to resist.

Having 1080i support is cool, but the difference between 480i and 1080i seems less than the difference between 480i and 480p for games like Halo 2.

PixyJunket 01-27-05 01:21 PM

I stopped at Gamestop yesterday while wating for my take out to cook.. they had ads everywhere so it's still coming.

Josh H 01-27-05 01:27 PM

My best guess on the delay is to put it out when it will be the main attraction. They didn't want to launch it in the holiday season against GTA, Halo2, MP2, MGS3, etc. and are probably wanting to wait a couple more months for people to finish those and be itching for something new to buy.

Derrich 01-27-05 04:19 PM

No, they definately wanted to put it out by Christmas. Missing Christmas is always a very very bad thing. And now it puts it closer the to end of the PS2 lifecycle when some people may just decide to wait for GT5 for thier PS3s.
