So far it is running pretty good on my P4 2.53, 512 RAM, Raedon 9700. I am running all the settings on high. Is there a command to see the frame rate?
It looks pretty good, just trying to get used to what I have to build and not build. It is weird not having to build a mine and lumber mill and stuff.

Ok... well i've played the trial version for a while...and i'll give some feedback.
First the install process was very simple and did not give any hardships with some other trial versions of games. No hiccups here whatsoever and the servers were downloading at a very good rate.
Once into the game a few screens play, and on to the main menu screen. Let me say, the initial settings were pretty much at the mid level, and the game looked very good. I then proceded to turn everything up as high as it could go and saved the settings then went back to the menu screen, and wow. What a world of difference.
Let me say, this game is fantastic looking and very appealing and easy on the eyes. As most RTS games you can zoom in/out to a certain level. Zoomed all the way in showed some very nice attention to detail and will give some nice eye candy to look at. The menu took me a few mins to get used to, but if you've played RTS games before, you won't have any problems here. I didn't see anything extraordinary about this one on the interface side that made me go holy pumpernickles or insert your favorite OMG comment here.
The game played very smooth for being a trial version and I didn't notice any lag whatsoever, mind you with all settings turned to 100% max and running that game at 1600x1200 on my rig. I will try to leave out most of the actual action as not to ruin it for anyone that might want to find out for themselves. Let's just say, when my force met theirs, it was a huge battle, and no lag, zoomed all the way in, or out, scrolling, or not scrolling the map. It was seamless for me.
Overall, I think it will be a nice game to have to pass some time. I would have liked a different time era, or story line to test out, but hey, it'll be out in a month or so and we can try then. When it does come out for reals, then i'll post a real review of the game heh.

It's running great on my system...AMD 2600+, 1gig RAM, nVidia FX 5800 Ultra. I was playing the game at 1280x1024, with everthing set to high and AA off. Even zoomed in there was no slow down. The game rocks. Everything you would expect it to be. I'm ready for the full release.

Sweet!
Thanks both of you for that short look into the game.
I can't wait myself, but I think in the meantime I should probably ante up the RAM to 1GB too.

It's not often someone pulls out holy pumpernickels, this must be one hell of a game.

Looks like AOE 3 has gone gold.

Gone Gold: If you read this blog then I assume you are interested enough about Age 3 to have already heard the news that Age 3 has gone gold and is on target for release 10/18 as previously announced. The gold version was release candidate #5 (RC5) and build 3,236 in the history of the game’s development. It was officially submitted by Producer David Rippy around 5 PM on Thursday, September 22 (one day ahead of schedule) after consultation with our Redmond Test Lead Fred Norton, and the Age 3 leads here in Dallas.
When submission was announced, Assistant Producer Brian Lemon walked the official gold master disc from his office in Redmond over to the production lab where it underwent some final checks. Once these were passed, it was officially accepted and duplication of the shipping discs was commenced. Assembled boxes will be collected over the following few weeks for shipment to retailers.
Thanks: Woo Hoo and thanks to everyone involved for making age 3 a reality (at ES, in Redmond, at our marketing units worldwide, and friends and family who put up with our crazy careers). Thanks to the fans of the Age series for being so supportive. We think you will find Age 3 to a fine addition to the series.
Gone Bavarian: After we received word that the gold master had cleared final checks, the entire company headed for the Bavarian Grill, which has been the site of our impromptu gold disc celebrations since Age 1. Rides home were pre-arranged for most of the team based on our past experienceJ. The official Age 3 launch party will take place at a later date.

That's too bad. I had a lot of fun with the demo. I should be picking this up later this week. That is if I can pull myself away from all this crack I've been smoking...I mean all this SOCOM I've been playing. Damn addictive games.

AoE III just seems too slow, I don't know what it is. I turned up the pace of the game to normal and it didn't help.

i downloaded the demo and had a good bit of fun. this is the first of these types of games I've ever played/tried. I've heard good things about Rome Total War, too. I'm afraid that if I bought one I'd become a hermit.

anyone bother to pick this up?
I've played the demo a lot, but 50 bucks for the game seems a bit too much.
For those that bought it, if any, how is the multiplayer? The only other rts game I've played was warcraft III, is the multiplayer as good as that?

I picked it up last week. I haven't played any multiplayer yet. I've never played an RTS game before... so I've just been getting used to it in the single player skirmish mode. Pretty easy to pick up though and the computer isn't much competition.
The graphics and detail are great. I just load up on artillery and bomb the hell out of everything. Buildings and bodies flying everwhere. The ships are very impressive, too.
I also really like how the battle system is fair. Unlike the Civilization series, if your units are better, you win pretty convincingly. That's my biggest complaint with the Civ games, and AOE III was a nice change.

I really wish they didn't pick the era they did. It's got to be the most boring of all cultures.
I mean they had so many other times and cultures to choose from and they choose such a boring one.
I mean they could have had knights, samurai, cowboys, indians, vickings, world war 1 or 2, romans, the future, any other culture would have been cooler.
