Fable: How long before it gets fun??

I got Fable yesterday in the "Buy 2 Preplayed get one free" at Babbages. I played it for a while last night....and I am just wondering when is it going to get fun?? It is not really what I was expecting at least at this point. I thought there would be more freedom or more of something. I don't really know what my purpose is yet?? Do you just do little Guild Quests and that is it?? How long before the game "kicks in"?? I am at the point where I have finished my Guild training. Thanks

Get a few magic spells, get a reputation going, marry a few women, then it becomes fun . Or at least interesting.

The beginning training is dull, and the game is better after that. However, the game never has much freedom and is fairly straight forward with only an occasional side quest. If you enjoy the interaction with the townsfolk, you'll get more from it, or just end up enjoying the large amount of combat. Honestly, don't expect much.

I went in with high expectations (as most of us did) and I am actually having a great time with it. Sure it doesn't have the features that were promised, but as an action based rpg, it does a great job.

Fable was a major disappointment for me. It was hyped up to be this really great rpg, but in the end it turned out to be a generic hack n slash. All you really do is go around doing quests for the Guild. It is completely linear. The storyline is not very good. None of the characters have much background story. All the things like the good/evil system and marriage are nothing more than gimmicks. This is the last game I ever buy blind. Fable won Gamespot's Disappointment of the Year Award here: http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/fea...4/day3w_8.html

In my experience, the game got worse as time went by, not better. By the time I finished I was pretty sick of it.

On X-Play they said you could be gay in the game. That's pretty fun.

By the time the game gets really good the credits start to roll. It was a real shame.

Count me in the disappointed crowd

I only made it about half way through before I put it up on ebay. I didn't have much time for games last semester and I wasn't going to waste it playing this.

I was bored from the get go. Never got better for me, it is an average game with more ambitions and promises than intriguing gameplay.

If you're not having fun right away, then you'd better take it back now. There's no use in waiting for it to get fun, because the game only lasts about 9-10 hours (maybe 15 if you tried to do everything) and it never really gets any different than it is now. You just take quests, follow the path to the right place to do the quest, do the quest, then return to the guild to level up. You can go to the town and get married and/or beat people up, but that gets old pretty quick.

How does this game compare to Morrowind? The two sound pretty similar, and I loved Morrowind BTW.

This is nothing like Morrowind. There are cities in Morrowind that are bigger than the entire Fable world, and there is very little freedom in Fable.

I don't think it ever became much fun. There aren't any decent puzzles, the combat is mediocre, exploration is a chore and the story is unsurprisingly dull. The freedom in the game is superficial and unfulfilling.

The highlight of the game was being able to curse at all the townsfolk, air humping the women you didn't marry, and still be able to go home to screw your wives.

What are you talking about...did someone say this was an RPG?

After you show up at a town, murder every inhabitant and then rent out their homes to new arrivals, it ceases to be fun.

I listened to the reviews and opted not to pick this up, but I recently did some playtesting for Microsoft and got to pick a game as compensation. I decided to get Fable since I had most of the others that I was interested in. I have absolutely no expectations and no investment in it, so we'll see how that affects my opinion once it arrives in the mail.

Thanks for the replies...I am going to play a little more...but if I don't start having some kind of fun soon, I will be trading this one. I am kind of disappointed in the fact that it sounds like the only thing you do is the same thing I am doing now --- bland, boring quests from the guild. Maybe I will try some more town interaction maybe that will liven things up a bit. But it is kind of a ripoff ---games should be fun from the get-go not a few hours in.

I played it once and beat in 12 hours. Enjoyed it pretty well.

THEN, I played again, but used internet tips and tricks and exploreded more. I tried to get every item (like Skorm's bow and so on) and do most of the quests. Took me 30 hours the second time.

I really, really enjoyed it the second time through. Yes, it is short, but I loved it.

I disagree. Many of the best games have build up (especially RPGs). Like Star Wars KOTOR?

It sounds to me like you do not like RPGs maybe.

You are probably right...I am not a big RPG fan. I usually just play more of the action RPGs like Zelda...which is kind of what Fable is but so far it doesn't come close to the magic of Zelda. And also about what RockStrongo said about RPGs needing a buildup -- from what I hear Fable is only like 10 hours long....so if it takes like 5 hours to get fun....you only have 5 hours of fun with a 50 dollar game....that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Like I said I am going to give this game a little more play time...maybe in a week or two i will be posting here how great a game it was.

Well, naturally, most RPGs last between 30-50 hours, so the problem wouldn't be the build-up, it'd be the shortness. Even a 30-hour RPG is pretty brisk, relatively-speaking.

I am really starting to dislike this game...I have played it a little the last couple of nights. It is the first game that I can remember purchasing that I have not been able to get into AT ALL. I have not had one lick of fun yet. Nothing has been fun...the quests...the village interaction. The game so far is just amazingly dull. I am this close to trading this bad boy.
