This utility will fix your wife's Bottom:

http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=216

(it will fix all other UI mods people are using as well...something that needs to be done after every patch)

The patch is mainly localization along with a few bug fixes.

DaveNinja 02-15-05 03:28 PM

Thanks, i'll have to use it when i get home. I dont want to have to recongifure all my dang buttons.

David_M 02-15-05 11:37 PM

DaveNinja, get that hammer for your wife. I got it with the help of some Guildmates and couldn't be happier. I'm currently lvl 29 and I don't think l'll have to replace it until atleast lvl 40. That is if she is not specced for protection, because it's a 2H Mace. I really wish they would have gave you a choice of a 1H or 2H weapon for that quest, for the people who like to use a shield.

I messed around with this briefly, but I didn't really know where I was going, and it seemed like I was either being spotted by the irradiated guys, or maybe I was being irradiated and knocked out of stealth. After the long walk from the Kharanos graveyard back to Gnomeregan several times I figured I'd wait until later... :(

Groucho: that program doesnt work on Macs. But i read what it does (just changed the version number in the .toc file of each addon) and was able to textedit the .toc file and update the version number 4150 to 4211.

David M/phuzboz: We went and got the Kor gem last night. Whats the best way to get to Shadowfang Keep? just walk from the Wetlands and hope you dont get attacked? We're on a PvE server so we dont have to worry about getting ganked. Also, is there a seperate mission to get the hammer, like the ore and gem missions, opr do you just go in and find it? Do you think a level 26 paladin and a level 25 mage can do it or should we get help?

will this work with cosmo?
The new patch messed me up big time yesterday.

Groucho 02-16-05 11:42 AM

Timewaster, yes that program will work with Cosmos (or any other UI mods you might be using). Alternatively you can use the manual method described by DaveNinja.

Special Note: Be careful downloading fixes for this. There is a trojan out there that keyloggers are passing as a UI updater (cosmosfix.exe). The link I posted is legit (Curse-Gaming is a reputable mod site), and it's easy to use so there's no reason to use any other file (unless you have a Mac...sorry DaveNinja).

DaveNinja 02-16-05 11:46 AM

Is Cosmos just one addon in the "addon" folder or does it have a bunch of parts each with their own .toc file? If you only use a couple/few addons, its really quick and easy to manually do them.

Groucho 02-16-05 11:48 AM

Cosmos is a suite of addons, so it's a bit unwieldy to modify them all by hand.

That is a good hammer, but I replaced it with another quest hammer in early 30's, the Rock Pulverizer. I did have a level 51 help me, but probably a 40 would've been plenty. I think that hammer took me close to 40.

DaveNinja 02-16-05 01:42 PM

So is the best way, walk north from the wetlands and then head west toward Hillsbrand (sp?) and then continue onto where Shadowfang Keep is (Silverpine forest?)? There isnt a boat that goes near there? On PvE can alliance go into horde cities or will the guards attack?

Groucho 02-16-05 01:57 PM

That's the best way. And yes, stay out of the Horde cities.

Be sure to stop and pick up flightpaths on the way in Refugee Point and Southshire.

Does Cosmos offer anything that I'm not already getting from Gypsymod? I've been pretty happy with it so far, so unless there's something great about Cosmos I'll probably stick with what I know... :)

Lots of errors. :D

I had Cosmos for a while, but it started causing me a ton of errors. Cosmos has a ton more features, but nothing necessary. Gypsy is a million times better, IMO.

You don't need to use the WowTOC tool to "update" your mods. In your AddOn Manager (click the AddOn button on the bottom left of the character selection screen) there's a checkbox on the top left that allows you to turn off the version checking for all the plug-ins.

Blizzard implemented the version checker mainly as a CYA move because all these mods are unofficial and they didn't want to be liable to provide support whenever these mods get broken by a new patch. Manually editing (or automatically with WoWTOC) the version numbers in the TOC files is no longer necessary and could lead to confusion down the road as to which version of a plug-in you're actually using.

BTW, I'm pretty selective about which mods I use precisely because I don't want to have a bunch of issues crop up every time Blizzard patches the game. I'm only using Flexbar at the moment. If you're mainly interested in additional toolbars, I highly recommend it.

But if you haven't checked the box, you can't get back to it without updating your TOC files...there's the rub!

weird... I'm pretty sure I didn't have that problem last night. I actually forgot to disable version checking when I first logged in and saw that my plug-ins were missing. All I had to do was log out, click the AddOn button on the character selection screen, and disable version checking. When I logged back in, the plug-ins were active again. Of course, Flexbar had lost its profile settings, but that's because I think the patch caused the saved_variables file to get flushed.

I think one of my addons is hanging WoW for me. But only for one of my characters. My primary runs fine with all addons. Any idea which addons might be character dependant?

timewaster 02-17-05 09:21 AM

Thanks.
will definitely try to disable the version checker.
I DL the utility last night to convert the version numbers on cosmo, but it did not work and i was not able to use cosmo.
I Then proceeeded to DL the latest version of cosmo which comes with a built in utility to check and DL the latest version of cosmo.

There's a lot of add ons out there... which are you running?

Do you have any addons that are related to quests? I had this happen with an addon called "QuestHistory."

DaveNinja 02-17-05 10:33 AM

After the update BagMeter was messed up for me. i changed the version number in the toc file, but i still got an error. The bagmeters seemed to be working but i was getting bad lag while my wife's game was not. So i just tossed the addon since i never really look at it anyways. Is FlexBar like BottomBar? BottomBar gives you and extra row of buttons across the bottom of the screen (above the main buttons and options like social and quests).

hardcore 02-17-05 10:54 AM

Sadly, I run a lot of addons, most of which I don't use. But unfortunately I don't know what the names are for all the ones I do use, so I haven't messed with the rest of them... :) The only quest one I use (that I know of) is the one that shows you what you need to finish the quest without pulling up the quest log. I'll try removing that one and see whether that helps. Thanks!

Groucho 02-17-05 10:56 AM

hardcore,

That sounds like QuestMinion, which I've never had problems with. If removing that doesn't work, your best bet is unfortunately "trial and error" by selectively turning addons on and off.

hardcore 02-17-05 12:07 PM

Yeah, I figured it would come down to that. The only consolation is that the character that doesn't work is my priestess, and I haven't really been enjoying playing her anyway... :)
