This is the best of the series for me. There wasn't any part I disliked about it. Just finished it tonight, got it on friday. My favorite part was the battle with The End. Although it took forever, it felt so worthwhile.

Yeah, you can still break some necks. Instead of pushing down the Circle button hard, just press it rapidly like you did with the Square button in the last few games while you're holding them. Neck snapping just isn't what it used to be now that you can slit throats, but if you're going for the "non-lethal" style, you can stop short of killing them and knock them out that way.

My fave so far...
was fighting the Fear. All I've seen people do is hunt him ala predator. I realized he kept going up in the trees and eating the fruit, so I shot them out of the trees and ate them all. Then I took some old ruined food from my backpack and threw it on the ground and waited. He would come to it and pick it up and I'd shoot him. Then after he ate it, he got food poisoning and had to stop and barf it up, and I'd shoot him again. I just kept repeating until he had no stamina and couldn't even move anymore, then I came up to him and shot him in the head!
I love how you can be inventive in this game!

I'm playing the PSU demo disc and man this game is hard! I can't even get past the first section where the gaurd is wandering around and you have to hide in that log. Maybe I'm not using the CQC correctly. Any hints?

1. I am new to Metal Gear - no change
2. I liked the first game - no change
3. I liked the second game - you get a "Raiden" mask at some point, along with a cutscene - no real change in the game.

This is my first time playing MGS! You supposedly get extra tutorials an MGS veteran wouldn't require.
I like MGS! You play the game sans the extra tutorials.
I like MGS2! The opening cinemas are modified to conceal Naked Snake's face and he is wearing the Ivan Raidenovich Raikov mask and his name is listed as Jack when he removes the flight mask. The opening radio conversation features some extended dialog with Major Tom and is split into two parts with a new cinema in the middle featuring Naked Snake removing the Ivan Raidenovich Raikov mask, getting re-introduced as Snake and he then "enjoys" the jungle scenery in something that looks like a hair care commercial.
You have the mask in your face paint inventory regardless of which you pick. It was also rumoured that if you pick I like MGS2! you get a positive reaction from Major Tom when you first wear the mask. I don't know for certain though because I picked I like MGS! (incorrectly assuming I could later pick I like MGS2! with my saved clear file) but I do know that Major Tom said I had started to annoy him already when I disguised myself as Raikov and when Snake objected that looking like Raikov should make him more popular the Major said he didn't think so. I can only assume that perhaps the rumours are true and that this dialog is different if you pick I like MGS2! I should also point out that
I'm assuming this is another nod to Raiden and the dialog would change if you played choosing I like MGS2! instead of I like MGS!

I just finished the game, and wow, what a rush. Best game I've played in awhile.

How is the food system thing in this game? To me it sounds stupid that you have to eat. If I wanted to take time to eat in a video game, I would play some Sim game, not an action game. Also, I have heard you can get different injuries you have to treat like broken bones and whatnot. Is this actually fun or is it lame?

Finally finished this game last night around 5:00 a.m. It was awesome. I liked it a lot better than MGS2 (though I liked MGS2 also). The boss fights were very well designed, my favorite was the fight with The End. And the cinema's were awesome. The Boss is one of the coolest characters ever for the series. It was also a better mix of gameplay and cinema's this time, I'm guessing they took in a lot of the complaints they received about that. Actually there were a lot of nods in the game and "inside jokes" that were amusing and confirmed that they did in fact listen to their fans about certain aspects of the series.
My only complaint is the cure system, It sucked having to go into the menu to cure every single time you get hit in certain boss fights. But that's about it.
Now it's about time they start moving the series forward, when's MGS4 coming out?
