Karaoke Revolution question

I'm going to be picking up Karaoke Revolution for the Xbox and i just now found out that 40 of the 50 songs will not be performed by the original artists. Since it has been out for a good bit now on the PS2 i thought someone on here might be able to let me know if the cover bands do a decent job emulating the originals or if they are terrible.

Thanks in advance!

In general, the music is very close to the original and the reference vocals are passable. The reference vocals are usually turned down or off, so they work well enough.

One of the KR2 unlockable videos shows the various musicians and singers who did the cover versions. Strange video to watch, with some singers who sound exactly like the original, but look nothing like the person they are imitating.

KR 1 and 2 are a blast, although 2 had a more varied and eclectic pick of songs. My partner and I love this game, and the songs are top notch. The quality of the musicians are stunning and the singers not only replicate the original but in some cases surpass it. This is not one of those cheap games with the beeps and boops
of a midi song, this is as close as you can get to the real song. This is THE party game, and is the centerpiece of our every gathering. My one gripe is that in KR1 they had a option for add on discs but that never materialized like it did in Japan. KR2 is a marginal update. At out parties, we always go back to KR1. I understand that the 10 songs in KR XBOX are MoTown. That''s cool, but the old hits prove the hardest to sing for me!

KR 3 (with duets!) comes out soon (I think this week) for PS2. I can't wait!

K3 is out this week! WOOHOO!!!

I LOVE This game and so does my family. We can't wait to do the duets on Thanksgiving!

Isn't it funny how you seem to do worse on the songs that you think you are more familiar with? I think we are so used to singing it in a certain style and the game makes you sing it straight out with little or no embellishments.

I am very tempted to get K1 for the X-Box mainly because of the downloadable songs. I'll have to think this one out.

I imagine it is a blast at parties. I'm getting it to have a silly game to play with my wife, now if the Xbox could just get something like the Eyetoy

I'm also getting the cheaper version that doesn't come with a mic so we'll have to use the Live headsets. Hopefully after we close on our house this month i can pick up a handheld mic controller to get the full karaoke feel.

Supposedly the ninth of this month, then my EB said it was delayed to the 11th and they would have it by noon today. But they lie. Filthy filthy lies.

So i shall see if it shows up tomorrow.

I picked up KR for the Xbox yesterday. 51 songs. Some of them needed to be unlocked first. I also jumped online and downloaded 10 more songs for $10.

This is my first time playing Karaoke and my wife and I are having a lot of fun with it!

I was looking at the downloads tonight. Are they 4.99$ for each group of songs?

A really fun game though that my wife has enjoyed playing with me. Now if we could get more rhythm or party type games i would be stoked.

I broke down and broke my rule of never buying premium content by picking up two sets of songs tonight. This is a game my wife really gets into and we have been having a blast playing together. Unfortunately she has a way better voice than me and normally trounces me in it. That is until i downloaded Sweet Home Alabama and oh man can i belt that song out

They also have 6 different song sets up now for 4.99 a piece. We got the very first one with Born to Be Wild on it and the sixth mix one with a couple country songs and Lady Marmalade.

I think what your paying is bargain...I thought XBOX users only got the MoTown favorites...Well you are getting what us PS2 users are paying for in the new realeases. I much rather have MY own D/L able content that fits my song style...
I am glad you are enjoying it! Did you get/unlock Science Genius Girl? It is very catchy.

I was toying with picking this up for the kids as a last minute Xmas present.

Since we don't currently have a headset or mic, my question is this:

Should we pick up the bundle with game and headset, or should we pay $20 less for just the game and pick up another mic/headset? If separate, any suggestions in regards to the mic/headset??

Since I'm not sure how good the quality is of the provided headset, I'd rather know before buying.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I don't know if you're referring to the Xbox or PS2 version. The Xbox version doesn't come with a headset, it comes with a microphone. For the same $20 (or less with gamer's coupon), you can pick up the Xbox Music Mixer and get not only a good quality microphone, but also the Mixer's few useful functions (media player, naming songs on your hard drive automatically). Best Buy used to sell additional Music Mixer microphones for $5, but I haven't seen them in a while. You can also use your Live headset/ torture device, but I'm not sure how good that sounds. The bottom line is nobody needs the packaged microphone for the Xbox version of this game.

Thanks,
I've only played it using the Xbox Live headset so i can't give too much info - but the headset allows you to hear your own voice in your ear so if you are trying to improve your singing that is a help. If you are just screwing around and are terrible like i am - the last thing i want to hear is my own voice amplified

Personally i'm wanting to pick up a microphone controller that i can hold just because i think it would be more fun purely for hamming up the performance. But i'm sure either would work perfectly.

I was told that the music mixer was no longer in print - so it might be an issue finding it instore. Granted i've seen several around here but i live in a rural area - it might be tougher in a more metropolitan town.

The microphone that comes with the game is good. It is made by Logitech and I haven't had any problems with it.

I already own Karaoke Revolution 2. I wanted to also get the first one, but am unsure which version to get, PS2 or Xbox. Is there some place online where i can compare the song list or are they the same?

I can see the PS2 song list, but the Xbox version just says coming soon. I guess I'll just check gamefaqs. Thanks though.

As suggested, I picked up the XBox Music Mixer along with the game only. Seems to work great.

Only problem is the Music Maker disc itself. I've exchanged the thing three times already, plus tried my nephews copy, bought from another location months before. Each time, the same problem. The disc won't load. Every other game will but not this one. I'll just chalk it up to the DVD drive, since my nephew's copy definitely works in his XBox. But still it stinks, even if the software is of little value.

That is weird. Mine works fine. Well "works" within reason. Still it's nice to have it name songs on my hard drive, even if they've been compiled from lots of different albums. I have no idea how it knows what the songs are, but it does.

My brother has a "modded" Xbox and he said that he got a patch that UNLOCKED all the other songs that are available.

I have a legit xbox and i have downloaded all the music packs for $4.99 each and when the download happened it was very fast! I knew that the song files couldnt be that small.

Sure enough, he showed me his modded xbox with karaoke revolution playing with all the songs that mine had.

So does this mean that there will be no more new songs coming out for Karaoke Rev for Xbox once we download the patches from Xbox live??

So basically what they did was lock songs already on the disc unless you buy them? Which means that there is not an unlimited supply of songs available via Xbox Live but rather a set number?

Can anyone verify how much HD space the downloads take?
