The PSP is probably going to be region free so moving to a new country will be no problem for it.

The U.S. version will include a tiny, unadvertised camera. Those buying violent games will be observed as potential terrorists.

Happy gaming!

For me, I need to own Lumines, Darkstalker, and NFS with the possibility of getting Hot Shots and Ridge Racers
I am making this statement to everyone so that if it happens, I will be forced to relocate. Tower of Purgatory is part of the PSP launch lineup, I am moving myself out of the United States of America.

Define 3d shooter.

Tower of Purgatory is a 3D shooter, if you consider it is in 3d and is a shooter. If you are talking about FPS, then you are goign to have to wait for Coded Arms (the most beautiful screens yet).

battery life is the achilles heel of this machine; unless they fix the problem, it's going to be a real issue; 2-4 hours of gaming (realistically; the 5-6 hours are a bs estimate for non intensive puzzle games and a dim screen)

game gear redux, anyone?

I don't think we should be super critical of the battery (me included) until we get some real reviews of the PSP. I'm sure some of the gaming sites and mags will get hands on units by December and we can get some real battery numbers. It may turn out the 4-6 is accurate however Sony had a bad habit of overestimating their battery times on other devices like their PDAs so I'm waiting for some hands on reviews.

To think the biggest downfall of NEC's portable, the Turbo Express, is the same thing that will hurt the PSP and here we are over 10 years later.

True. Two differences though:
1) Sony Marketing
2) Society has become far more accustom to being "bitches" to technology. 10 years ago you couldn't convince people that they would need, more or less want to carry their phone around eventually having to plug it in at regular schedules. People just didn't go for that. Today is different and people are willing to make sacrifices to have technology. It's this type of conditioning that may allow the PSP to suceed in the long run.

Here is a question. Do you really think the general public will be so picky about the battery life. Even if it gets only 2 hours of play time do you really think it will get to the point where it affects sales. I think if we are in a DVD forum posting about the release of the PSP and analyzing it we are probably going to be more picky than the average consumer.

It has been a major killer for handhelds in the past. That is why Nintendo always went for the more energy efficient designs and sacrificed graphics.

The difference for the PSP is the battery is rechargeable. With the Nomad or Game Gear it got expensive buying new batteries every single day. With the PSP you will probably only have to buy a new battery every year or two when the rechargeable finally wears out. Not to mention so many people own PDAs, iPods, cell phones, etc that they are use to throwing their devices on a charger ever day.

If the PSP really gets 4-6 hours I think it will be okay. However, if it falls closer to 2-3 hours that could be a major issue to gamers.

As I've said before, it's one of two key issues preventing me from wanting a PSP (the other being nothing in the software lineup that interests me so far). If I had to charge my cell phone after two hours of use, I'd get a new cell phone (of course, that's not really an accurate comparison, as cell phones are not being actively used all the time but still need to be on).

I'm so tempted to import one. On playasia it came to about 400 for the system bundle, which comes with the memory card, case, and heaphones, and two games. that's including shipping which was about $35.

Still no titles really ringing my bell. Maybe #5 and #10. Metal Gear Acid looks interesting, though I've never had much interest in the regular MG games, it's just the card aspect that tweaks my interest.

Not to mention the battery life.

I'm still quite firmly in the wait and see camp.
