I got done with the training last night, so I haven't ventured to far into the game yet.

I'm pretty impressed with the game so far. The interaction of the NPCs is nice. The sound is very immersive as my dogs kept barking due to the surrounds. The combat is a bit simple, but I'm not too bothered with that.

Time to venture out into the world this evening and see if I can kick a few chickens around.

kicking chickens was fun

first question
Spoiler:
can you do anything with the blackberry pie before you grow up?

I'm trying to play to completion so am hesitant to move past childhood before I do everything. Is there anything else you can do before growing up? I have ~50 gold, 15 books, a pie, and a stick. There is a guy in the bottom floor who looks like he should be green, but he won't talk to me. Maybe I farted in his face too many times...

I had to call Wal-Marts all over my area after work to find this. I just got home from tracking this game down. I was on the fence about it till my friend, who has been dying for this game, called me and told me how amazing it was. I asked him about some of the complaints I've heard and wanted to know what he thought. He said even with a few problems it's well worth the cash.

I just hope I get lots of time to play it cause as soon as Tiger Woods comes out next week all other games will get put on hold for a long long time.

Anyone know if the demon doors hold anything worth the trouble to get?

Most of the stuff is pretty good, like weapons and some armor, if I remember right. If you don't like what it gives you, you could always sell it. Most of them aren't too hard to get through.

I started playing around 12:30 am.....and I didn't put down the controller until after 7 am.

It's so hard not to use magic in this game. I wanted to have a guy that was all muscle and didn't show the effects of using magic....but it's friggin tough.

Did you beat the apprectice to racing to the Demon door & back in under 50 seconds?

& I think you mean blueberry pie right? I was wondering if that can be used as well.

I did not beat him on the door. Do you have to get close to it, just cross the stream, just touch the little island, or what? I have my youth saved on a slot so I can go back at anytime.

Yeah, you have to actually run across the stream & touch the door (at least I did). I did it as a youth but you can probably still do it as a teenager. It took me a couple of times but it's fairly easy.

I'm trying to get/ finish everything in the game as I go along also, so I hope I didn't miss anything, I just finished my apprenticeship b/c I couldn't find anything else to do.

Don't forgot to shoot all the birds for the guy once you get you're crossbow & take all the tests again to upgrade your weapons.

I shot 5 sparrows but then got sick of looking for them.

How many are there total? Is there a final reward or is it just 5 gold and 2 evil per bird?

I tried killing people in the town but the guards keep respawning. Is there a way to do it without a million guards on your ass?

Shelling out $50 for 25 hours of entertainment isn't bad. That's $2 an hour.

A round of golf costs about $5-20 per hour.
Bowling costs about $10 per hour.
Miniature golf costs about $10 per hour.
A movie at the theatre with popcorn/drink costs $10 an hour.

You think $50 for 25 hours is too much? Then sell it when you're done. You should be able to get at least $30 in return, so you are then looking at $20 for 25 hours. An XBox game can be some of the cheapest entertainment found.

You'll be able to world save after you leave the guild I believe.

Yeah, once you're done with training you can save anytime. That part kind of sucks, but it only lasts 1-2 hours.

About 9 hours of official time in (actual time probably closer to 11-12) and I'm concerned this game's going to be really short. I'm already through about 80% of the whole world map... I've been good about some side quests like demon doors, silver keys, etc... but haven't spent an obscene amount of time on courting, marriage, etc... while those things are neat, they contribute notyhing to the main story, so every time you decide to court a girl, it's a clear deviation from advancing in the plot. I was hoping these amazingly intricate details would be woven into the plot, but they don't they just serve as filler, a way to make the game longer.

All said and done, I'm afraid that I'm going to find this game disappointing, just because it's so far from the scale of games like final fantasy or even KOTOR...

Get the people to follow you somewhere out of sight of anyone. Then kill them. As long as nobody sees it, or gets away and runs and tells the gurards, they won't know.

Well even if the game is short to you, it may be longer to others. Also, wasn't it fun getting where you were? You can always replay and be the opposite of what you were before.

How do you aim with the bow? I have played for about 3 hours and I have read a lot of different message boards that talk about aiming for someone's head or at a certain spot. But I can not figure out how to aim this precisely.

True, but I can't justify it given I can wait 6 months to a year and get it for $15 or so, and then be getting it for $0.60 an hour.

I really enjoyed this game but having just beat it....I too feel a bit bummed paying 40.00 for it. The Penny Arcade review touches on a few other things, besides the length, that bothered me. I did all but the doll quest and I played for just under 12 hours. I bought property, married, changed my looks and all the other fun stuff. The only thing I didn't do that I wanted to was drink in the pubs. I just didn't want to waste my money and then need it later on.

I have a few buddies that I know wanted this. I told them while it's a great game they might be upset at the cost versus the length. Since they are all poor college students I figured they would enjoy a rental far more.

Maybe I never looked in the options but could you group your magic spells together differently? I guess I never thought about it till the end of the the game. I liked a few spells a lot but trying to cycle to those spells in the middle of combat really sucked. I also always managed to bump in the right thumbstick while in combat and that enlarged map would just screw me over.

No matter how big a RPG fan someone is they should not buy an XBOX just for this game, as another thread poses that question, but I think any RPG fan with an XBOX should certainly rent it for a weekend and check it out.
