What To Do With A Dead XBox?

After months of struggling, the Thompson drive on my XBox finally passed away today. Instead of dropping the money to get a new drive, I'll probably just wait until I can find a good deal and pick up a new XBox. So what should I do with the dead one?

I think you can buy a replacement drive for around $50 and install it yourself. Of course that voids any warranty, but at this point what is there to lose.

Check xbox-scene.com.

Trade it in at an Electronics Boutique if you have one near you. Most will give you full trade-in credit regardless of wether it works or not.

I don't think that there's sn Electronics Boutique near me. (We do, however, have three GameStops...all less than a mile from each other!)

After picking up a bunch of games at the Toys R Us clearance this morning, I broke down and bought a new XBox already.

I also bought a memory card so that I could transfer some of my old games to my new XBox, but I haven't had any luck. It's letting me delete files, but I don't get the option to copy any of the files. I don't know if it's because the XBox is dead, or if it's because I'm using a third party memory card.

I'm not going to sell or trade it. It's not worth the hassle of shipping it out to anyone. I'll call GameStop tomorrow to see if they'll give me a few bucks worth of credit for it.

If not, I'll pass it on to my brother in law. Maybe he'll feel like buying anf installing a new hard drive.

When you copy, move your cursor to the right of the big circle with the game title. The individual saves are the circles under the game title banner. I had trouble with this the first time I tried to save, but figured it out by accident.

I would also recommend using officially licensed products, unlicensed ones can be unpredictable.

Gamestop requires trade-in consoles to be in working order and will test the unit out before taking it. You should try to find an EB instead. Plenty of stories on this board about EB taking back faulty consoles w/o testing them.

Hmmm....I don't know how I missed them all. I guess Perhaps I'll suit up and Kevlar and take a trip to Eastland mall.

Thanks for the help. I'll trade it in this weekend.

walk around with it in town and 'trip' and toss it into the street and then jump up and start crying, have your friend video taping it all from the bushes across the street and get everyones reactions to you and then put in on the net for us to watch
