Originally posted by joshd2012 I was also on the Monster Hunter Beta, and the Beta should have been called "Online Test", because that is what it was. A very little glimps at the single player, and open multiplayer. I got an e-mail for this today as well so I signed up. I didn't even bother with any of my Monster Hunter Beta so I'm amazed I got anything for this title. I couldn't get into Monster Hunter at all and never gave them any feedback.

I got my invite the other day. I signed up, but I doubt I will get around to playing it when/if it arrives. But who knows...

Is there the possibility of multiple invites. I would be interested in beta testing KillZone and my PS2 is online so single or multiplayer is not a problem.

Seriously, you guys...you can't just get invites. You have to register at the Playstation home page, have a PS2 Network Adapter, click the box for it and then you MIGHT get sent an invitation.

Damn!!!! I got Ratchet & Clank beta test (Disappointing IMO), wish I got this instead.
zero, Beta tests are 99% of the time to test out Online capabilities. There are no offline levels to play. |
So once you are signed up there, there is the possibility you will get chosen randomly for beta testing some PS2 games?

I'm in as well. I figured after they sent me the Monster Hunter beta and I never even bothered to load it or do their surveys (It arrived a week before I had to move, survey date was during my move). they'd nix me from their beta program lol.

Let us know how it is, this game and the new ace combat game are making me think about picking up a PS2.

My kit arrived today.
I figured I'd give it a shot and spend time with it.....as opposed to the time I spent with Monturd Hunter. I remember those kick ass vids on IGN. That must be the preview on the next gen system. :( The graphics are kinda weak. The enemies are dressed all in black and not very detailed. The level designs are big but it seem there are just large areas that will be used to gunfights.....connected by long boring hallways. The one cool outdoor area wasn't being used. Everyone kept running to this one indoor area to fight. The weapons are kinda cool but it sure takes some serious gunfire to take a man down. I like it WAY more than Monster Hunter but I still don't think I'm buying it. There are some great online games coming out and I don't this this one would be able to hold my attention long enough to make it worth the money. I'd be more curious if this game had a good single player mode but I don't recall right now. I'm going to play more later on before I toss it aside. |
I got an invite, and registered. kit should be here any time now.

Mine came today via UPS. Might have to try it out before I head in to work.

I've only played a little, but it's not bad. At first I didn't care for it at all, but it's kind of growing on me.
The graphics have a grainy look and are pretty good but the pop-up is horrible. For a moment you're wondering why there are people hanging in mid-air until you get closer and the building they're standing on pops into view. |
I didn't feel this comment warranted a new thread, so I will continue in this one.
I played the beta, and was truely disappointed with the progress. There was a lot of stuff that I felt the game lacked as far as fluidity and action. Good thing it was an early build. I played the Killzone single-player demo at EB yesterday, and I was blown away. The game is simply amazing. The graphics may be the best ever seen on a PS2 (to date) and will simply make you do a double take when you start playing. The mechanics of the game are now cleaned up and everything is working as a good FPS should. The AI is surprisingly good, a lot better than one would have hoped for. Don't get me wrong, the enemy aren't Einstein smart, but they know when they are being shot at. This was a game that I was going to wait and see how it got rated before I purchased. Now I know I must have this game the day it comes out. |

Awesome deal. Thank you very much.

I played a demo of this game in game crazy. I could not stand the controls. Using the two sticks made my hand hurt and hurt fast. Also shooting with the R buttons did not feel right.
I got to say Xbox has the best FPS controller by miles. However wow this game looked damn good. Also the auto lock-on was way over done but I guess it has to be being as it's so hard to control. |

UH josh the controllers are nothing alike. I think everyone is going to agree with me the xbox is the best FPS controller by far. This is one time I'm going to state my option as fact.

Originally posted by flashburn I don't agree, keyboard + mouse is the best controller for a FPS. :p |
You know, I've heard this arguement for years about console FPS controls and I don't really get either part of it.
1: I'm so used to the PS controller, having used it since early '98 (I imported an early, non-vibrating model from Japan). I really have no problem using it for FPS type games at all. Maybe I have small hands or something (the original Xbox controller was way too massive for me). I like the Controller-S allright, but I really have no problem with the Dual Shock at all. 2: I don't doubt everyone who raves about the superiority of the keyboard and mouse system, but for me it's less intuitive. Let me expand on that: Yes, aiming with the mouse is much easier, no doubt. But I've always hated the keyboard side of it. Moving by pressing the S key is so much less intuitive and natural than just easing forward on the left stick. I'm always feeling seasick with the movements from a keyboard; the joystick just feels so much more natural. Also having random keys mapped to important functions for me is a whole lot harder to keep track of than just pressing an X or shoulder button. I'm alwys having to stop the action to see what button I wanted to use, or get hit while looking down at the keyboard, but maybe that's just me. |
A friend of mine hooked me up with the demo a few weeks ago and so far I've no complaints with control, and DAMN I cant wait for this title! :)

I've been hearing alot of good things about the game, especially after all the hype died down and everyone thought it would be a stinker.

I prefer the X-Box type s controller to everything on the market. I really love that thing and for FPS's (well just Halo really) it's perfect. The main reason it feels so good to me is that the x-box shoulder buttons are really triggers. While the shoulder triggers really kill your fingers (anybody who played Capcom vs Marvel should know what I mean) they rock for shooters. Sorry for the mini thread jack. |

So you aren't actually commenting on the thread subject (Killzone - for those of you just joining us), but rather the PS2 in general. That is a thread crap. |

Originally posted by flashburn  You surely can't be serious, can you? When does kill zone come out anyway? I dare anyone to play Halo then kill zone and tell me what controller do you like better for a FPS. PS. Sometimes I think I'd like to put a Sony joke in my post or something to get josh going. He is pretty damn funny. However that would be wrong and I just get kicked. |
TOPDAWG & joshd2012: Guys, chill out. Let's keep this a Killzone discussion and not a console or controller discussion. Thanks for your cooperation.

I love it when I get blamed for arguing when I merely point out the obvious...
Anyway, anyone seen a review up yet? I know the game isn't due out until November, but I was hoping to see some early reviews of a final build right around now. |
