Woo-hoo. IGN has their review up and the first line says it all
There has never been a better $20 game than ESPN NFL 2K5. End of story.
Really excited about this one now.

Closing Comments
Are you kidding me? This game rivals Madden in every way and surpasses it in feature set... and it's only twenty dollars. Plus, it's out three weeks ahead of Madden. Fans of the series will love the improvements and continue to sing its praises. Those who haven’t tried it yet should give it a look at the low price point… it's easily worth fifty bucks, but you don't have to spend that!

10.0 Presentation
Quite simply, a sports game has never been this well-presented. This is the poster child for exemplary use of a license.

9.0 Graphics
This is one handsome football game. Great animations, excellent player models, and cool ESPN integration make this a looker.

9.0 Sound
Excellent contextual commentary utilizes the ESPN talent to the fullest. On-field sounds and music make it even better.

9.0 Gameplay
Realistic and fun, packed with modes and features, this is a very complete game. Default difficulty is still too easy.

10.0 Lasting Appeal
Can you make $20 stretch further? Online head-to-head and league play, an excellent Franchise mode, the collectible Crib, and cool VIP feature means you'll be playing this one 'til the cows come home.

9.4 OVERALL:

EB stores have a summer flyer out now (runs 7/16-8/1 I think) and has a coupon NFL 2k5 free after trade in. Trade 2 Xbox games and receive $20 trade-in credit, boxes and instructions required some titles excluded.

Damn. July 20th now? What are they doing here, overcompensating for pushing back Baseball? I still need to finish up my season of MVP, further work on my NCAA dynasty, and now get started on ESPN Football. There will be a huge war for my gaming time.

Anyway, I can't wait! $20? You have to be kidding me.

I just swiped this from another forum but this is too cool to not let you all see.

Oh my lord, to all the people who ever dreams of online leagues with detailed stats on webpages your dream has come true!

Espn's website takes care of it all. Anyhow to the chase, click the link below and put in the following info and you'll get to demo how the online leagues look on these websites, just plain awesome!

Oh and put the info under the PS2 sign in screen not the XBox one. Anyhow the online leagues are for PS2 and Xbox users. Oh man this game is going to be the football game of the year, move aside Madden your grave is dug, with a stake in the heart, and the coffin thrown while on fire.

enjoy!
I'm getting more and more pumped for this game by the minute!. I've never played anything but Madden, oh and NFL Game Day when it first came out in 1997.

Also from another forum a visual comparison between Madden and ESPN NFL2K5

Hola. I recently converted to the Espn series after being endlessly frustrated by Madden and Ea's incompetence in improving their games. My brother on the other hand is always amazed by Madden's slight graphic and gameplay improvements and claims they make the game much better. So this is the reason I decided to collect some screenshots and show how Espn blows Madden away in every graphical aspect.

Look at the the texture and depth on Ladanian's sweatband and gloves. On the other hand, look at the bland tape on the Tebucky Jones.

Look at Chris McAllister's arms and how they go completely through his shoulder pads and jersey. If you look at Rod Smith's arm you can see how it goes into the other players arm. On the other hand, The arms on Terry Glenn and T.O. look great.

Here are the people from left to right. Ray Lewis, Tom Brady, T.O., McNabb, and Ray Lewis. The first two are Madden's. Isn't it ironic that Madden doesn't even have a custom face for their coverman. That doesn't even look like Ray Lewis. The Ray Lewis in Espn looks way more like him. I know you can't tell much from the picture, but if I didn't tell you who that was you could tell it was Ray Lewis. The same goes for the rest. you can tell that that's the T.O. and McNabb. Do I even have to say anything about Tom Brady?

I don't know where Ea Sports got the idea that football players where Skin tight jerseys, but they've made almost ever team look like they are. Look at that lions jersey. It looks like the freaking jersey is about to get ripped because of the pads. Also, Look how the shoulder of the Panther player is clipped and it goes into the players arm. Now look at Espn's jerseys. They look silky smooth and you can see every hole in them.

What the [***] are Kyle Boller and Phillip Rivers Doing? It sure doesn't look like they're passing the ball. I don't have to say much for this. It speaks for itself.

Look at Jamal Lewis and the defender's hands. Look how they go into each other. Look at how Emmons hand goes into Lewis's leg.

That's it. Hope you enjoyed this.

ya count me in the dvdtalk league. does anyone know how the week by week playing of games will go. for example, we set up a league and a schedule is made. lets say i play joschmo in week 1. do i get in contact with joeschmo and we decide on a compatible time to play our game online as long as its within the week. (lets say starts sunday and you have until the upcoming saturday to play)? or are we all going to have to play the game on the sunday, monday or thursday assigned? anyone know from last year?

i was just watching a video on espnvideogames.com and the leagues have real time rosters. so if a guy on our league gets hurt he's really out for however many weeks. and we can trade among teams also. its kinda like fantasy football except we play the games!!!!! this is gonna be th ebest online experience ever.

That's pretty close to how XSN played. The biggest problem was getting people to show up for game time. Usually we would play one or two games a week.

I'm hoping that playing with other DVDtalkers, will make for an excellent time.

What were the fools in EGM thinking when they praised Madden left and right?

They basically said Madden plays better and smoother.

Madden is more realistic.

Madden is for the hardcore football gamer, and ESPN for the once a week gamer.

Am I the only one that thought all those statements apply to ESPN as opposed to Madden?

I'm in on the DVD Talk league

Man... I've been watching all the videos on xbox.com and ign.com, looked at the online season manager etc... this is absolutely the most amazing game I've seen.

Of course... it's not out yet.

Release date Tomorrow!!!

I ordered with standard shipping so I won't have it for a few days. (wanted to use an Amazon GC that I had instead of ordering from EB)

Look forward to playing with you guys.
