Inverted feels completely natural only when I'm playing a flight sim. I have to use non-inverted for FPS games, though.

That might not necessarily be the whole cause - it honestly wasn't until the Dreamcast that i really got into PC gaming - before that i had the nintendo consoles but was still almost exclusively PC. And i played my PC FPS with a mouse and keyboard and kept the mouse inverted

I use ESDF for my movement controls.

Inverted for flight games, non-inverted for fps. Don't know why, but it just feels right.

I've always used inverted. Started using it on flight sims and FPS on the PC. Feels more natural.

Non-inverted all the way...I never could play a game with the controls inverted.

I still don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Pull down on the stick in a flight sim - view goes up.
Pull down on the stick in a FPS - view goes up.

Is that really that weird?

Weirder than:
Push down on stick, view goes down
Push up on stick, view goes up

For console games, non-inverted is weirder. Whenever a console game contains a first person view, it usually defaults to inverted controls. Even in games like Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda, when you switch to the first person view, the controls are inverted.

Inverted. I was never a big FPS fan, and I was used to aiming cursors in flight games. Thus when I started playing a few console FPS's it was easier for me to play with it inverted, as that's how I was used to aiming in flight games.

It's weird. Last generation I used inverted (turok, goldeneye, etc). But since Halo and MS introduced me to two analog, it was easier getting used to the controls non-inverted. So this generation non-inverted is the way to go.

ROFL! Well there is no way i can argue against the truth of your statement.... but that doesn't mean inverted isn't the way to go.... so there

Inverted on both PC and console.

Other than changing whether the controls are inverted I usually don't change a thing and adapt to whatever the defaults are. This way I can learn the controls and be comfortable with them right away no matter where I am playing: my house, friends house, internet cafe, etc.

I think it started with xwing pc (since neither Wolf3d or doom required verticle control) but since then I've used inverted for everything that allows it including console games.

I use inverted, even though I've never played a flight sim in my life. I think it started with Jedi Knight (where I also picked up my habit of binding the space bar to "jump").

That's exactly my take on it too. But it's really all in how you train yourself, as this thread points out. It's a mental thing. For some people, they play inverted just fine on a flight sim. But when they play an FPS inverted, they get all whacked out even though it's the same exact view.
