It's in a USA Today article by Steven Kent (the best journalist covering gaming IMO) so I'd say it's legit. He probably just got a scoop somehow.

The pic is definitely legit, as it came straight from Nintendo. The only thing that isn't known, is if it is a full render, or not.

With Sony's pre-show conference now in full swing the Playstation Portable has been fully unveiled to the awed masses. As well as the first images of the wee beast in action, we've news herein on the specifications and other such details, including the titles that we'll be playing on this device Sony claim can produce full-motion '3D-CG' similar to the PS2.
The PSP will initially be available in black, and will include a 16:9 ratio TFT LCD wide screen, centred on a sleek, ergonomically designed controller that Sony hope will fit snugly in the hand. The dimensions are 170mm x 74mm x 23mm and it will reportedly weigh 260g. The screen will support the full sixteen-million or so colours of the spectrum, in a resolution of 480 x 272. The positioning of the PSP's D-Pad and buttons are apparently based on the Playstation's - for convenience - and the device will incorporate stereo speakers, a headphone jack and volume/brightness controls.

Connectors offered include a full 802.11b wireless LAN option (for connection in the home and to the wider network), as well as USB 2.0. The wireless functionality will allow several PSPs to connect and enjoy multiplayer gaming or online. Data will be downloadable wirelessly, via USB, or using the Sony Memory Stick compatibility offered.

PSP software will come on Universal Media Disc format, which supports 1.8gb of data, despite being only 60mm in diameter. This format will offer support for movie and music files as well as games and other software, and robust anti-piracy encryption system is touted.

Anyone see the Nintendo confrence? I need to change my pants. The PSP does nothing to me. The DS is where its all out.

Just finished watching the webcast of Nintendo's conference.

Started out with some awesome footage of different games, then they focused on Metroid Prime: Echos, Resident Evil 4, and Geist. MP and RE looked pretty good, but Geist looked a little generic.

Then they brought out the DS. The DS does look like the picture shown. Most of what they told was already known (two screens, touch screen), but there was some new stuff. They showed footage of the upcoming Metroid DS title, and it was actually in 3d! The bottom screen looked a whole lot like Metroid Prime, and the top screen was a map. The presenter mentioned something about firing by tapping your finger on the screen, and I can't exactly say I like the idea. It could be pretty irritating trying to look at something while tapping away at random spots on it.

The best part, though...

After a little more talking about how Nintendo's going to change the face of gaming, etc etc, the presenter (almost as an afterthought) says that they've got one more thing to show...

We fade in on scenic scenes of a forest, monsters on a plain, etc. It all looks quite beautiful, and the music sounds oddly familiar. The music starts to kick up, and I recognize it as the exact same song used in the Ocarina of Time trailers before it came out. My guess was confirmed when they show Link riding on the fields on Epona.

Yes, Nintendo looks to be making the fabled "realistic Zelda title".

And it looks absolutely gorgeous.

I just watched Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference via Gamespot. WOW! The DS looks great:

-four face buttons (and what looked like 2 shoulder buttons, making it a total of 6 buttons?)
-touch screen
-wireless connectivity INCLUDING WI-FI FOR INTERNET ACCESS!
-what looks like FULL 3D CAPABITY. They showed what looked like Mario 64 running on it and a NEW METROID GAME that was fully 3D like Metroid Prime!!!
-article on forbes.com said the price point would be $150
-It's coming out this year.

...but the BIG SURPRISE of the press conference was that Nintendo showed video of a new ZELDA game for GameCube that has FULLY REALISTIC GRAPHICS! It looks like that SpaceWorld demo for a few years ago! It looked incredible...mindblowing.

In regards with the DS and the PSP did anyone here take the time to consider how fast these handhelds drain battery power? considering batteries don't come cheap.

True. But there's really no reason anyone shouldn't pick up NiHM smart charges. The batteries last around 4 times as long as regular batteries on a single charge, and can be recharged a ton of times (i.e. 500+ for most).

Wow! Those Zelda screens are amazing. I wasn't put off by WW's cel shading, but it's far from my favorite graphical style. I greatly prefer the realistic graphics and adult link, to cartoon graphics and kid link.
