If these sell well, which I assume they will, Nintendo will probably release more of their classic games like Metroid and hopefully Mike Tyson's Punchout.

The thing is, I don't see how some of these games warrant a $20 price tag. Ok, Zelda and Mario Brothers I would buy, but Pac Man? Isn't here a Gameboy collection of four or five different Pac Man games now? And what about Donkey Kong?

Unless it's like an Ultimate Pac Man collection, including Super Pac Man. And the same for Donkey Kong, with DK, DK JR. and other DK games (I remember there was a part three, but I don't remember part 2).

Agreed, I'll get the Zelda for sure, but anything else will have to be loaded or wait for a deal.

There are several DK titles they could squeeze on there, and they could put the Lost Levels from SM All Stars on the SMB one.

I just realized with this Zelda release, all the "real" Zelda's will be available for play on the GBA. I'm definitely there

Isn't the Zelda the original one that was emulated on the GC Zelda bonus disc from last year?

Yes, with Adventures of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask being the others on the disc.

Damn, $20 a piece sucks for the games. It would have been awesome to get all those on one cart for $40 or something.

Doesn't look that great to me... although getting Zelda would be sweet.

It's the same model they used in Japan, except it was 3000 yen a cart ($30). However, the big fad over there right now is the Famicom 20th anniversary so it's more or less a collector/nostalgia thing.

I mean, anybody with a GBA in either country knows Pac-Man Collection is really cheap and not only has a pretty damn near-perfect arcade version of Pac-Man but 2 other games as well (I don't count Pac-Attack because it is not a Pac-Man game and sucks!). Much better value than the Famicom/NES Pac-Man (which is not arcade accurate). But it sells well over there because of the nostalgia factor. They are novelty items.

A cool side note.. all the carts (at least the Japanese versions) have high-score saving which the original games did not.

Does anybody know what the top of the SP would look like, from the pic it seems as if its going to be plain' ol grey(platinum).

Donkey Kong 3 is already out as e-Cards for your GBA e-Reader...

WHICH GOES TO SHOW that if that game can be had for $5 on e-Cards I'm willing to bet games like Pac-Man could me done the same way. I'll swipe $5 e-Cards instead of the carts - less bulky to carry around!

I love the e-reader but it is the definition of BULKY, the only way I have found the e-reader not cumbersome is connected to the GBA player for the GC. As several of the new titles are already e-reader cards- I have to agree though. 19.99 vs. 2.99-4.99 not to mention ANIMAL CROSSING NES games and their advance play feature
So Nintendo should have put at least 2 titles to a cart.
Personally
I looked through the initial release list and the only game that looks like I must play it again for now is Super Mario Bros. hopefully these can be had for 14.99 around release time.

In all honesty, I remember learning a few different ones that did the same thing. I don't ever remember adding the select in there, or maybe I've forgotten it over time. Regardless, that's one of those codes that just sticks with you...

As for games, it *is* possible to play all of those NES classics on the GBA(SP) right now; heck, you can even get over 100 of them on a single [flash] cart.
I don't mean to sound ignorant, but how is this possible?

Yeah, but the xbox isn't portable. Which is why I have an NES emulator on my GBA.

You only need the select if you are playing with two players rather than one.

You also have an extra B-A. You only need one B-A.

Actually, that (minus the extra A,B, select) was the universal cheat code for ALL Konami games. I doubt we'll be seeing Contra released as a part of the retro series as I'm sure Konami still owns the rights to it. There was a new Contra for the PS2 a year or two ago (that was actually still a sidescroller, just with insane graphics).

Not to sound negative, and more designs to choose from is always a nice thing, but I think the NES-styled SP is pretty ugly, actually. And $20 (a dollar for every year the games have been around, maybe?) is just a ridiculous price to ask for these tired old chestnuts that have been rereleased countless times and innumerable versions in the years since. The whole retro movement has really gotten out of control and has become a shameless grab for undeserved profits.

If they really want to bring back an old-school category of games, they should resurrect the LucasArts and Sierra style graphic adventures that had their peak from the late 80s through the mid 90s. There's something I'd actually be interested in playing.

Well, the NES SP and all the Classic games are up for pre-order over at Gamestop, i suspect other places as well. I reserved the NES SP only though.

I have to agree, I will take a platinum please. And 20 bucks is quite a bit for each of these games, should have been 20 for 3 or something. My guess is the masses will eat this up though, especially if this board is any indication. Man I love Nintendo but maybe it is about time for some competition in the handheld market.

No, they look like the ugly Game Boy Advance boxes with the NES cover art... check out the Famicom boxes from the Japanese side.
