XBox Live Question

I didn't know where I should post this question, but I figured the video game forum would be my best bet. I recently had a cable connection installed in my home, and now I'm wanting to get on XBox Live. My question is this, I have a Motorola Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet connections, so is there anything else I need to go live? I'm using the USB port to connect my computer can I just use the ethernet directly into my XBox or is there something else I need? Sorry if this has been asked before or if this is just an all around stupid question. Thanks in advance.

All you need now is the two month trial card or get the Xbox live 1 yr kit. After that you're ready to roll.

You can connect your modem directly to the Xbox. Another option is to purchase a router so you can have your xbox and pc connected at the same time.

As for getting on Live, you can get a Live kit which comes with a headset, subscription card and a game. Otherwise, if you were to just get a Live enabled game, it should allow you to install the Live dashboard from the game as well as billing options for subscribing to Live. Of course you may want to purchase a Live headset to take full advantage of Xbox Live. Also, keep in mind that you'll need a CC to register.

Alternatively you can buy a hub like I did. I've got my PC, Xbox, Rio Karma Cradle, and Replay TV all going through it.

But the hub will not assign IP addresses, etc, so if your ISP only supplies one IP (either dynamic or static) you will have an issue if you try to have two things accessing the web at the same time.

A router while costing a little more would generally be a better solution, I believe.

I've used multiple devices simultaneously and haven't had any trouble whatsoever.

Does your ISP allow you more than one IP address? Many do not.
