Anyone playing Far Cry yet?
This came out yesterday, I'm just wondering if anyone here has it yet. I am waiting until I upgrade, so I can have the full experience (plus my current system probably won't even run it). The reviews I've read have all been excellent so far. One review I saw said it had about 20 hours of gameplay (singleplayer), and was the best SP FPS since Half-Life, so I'm really looking forward to being able to play this one.

There's no way I have the rig to play this one as it was intended. I plan to upgrade in the next 12-18 months, and by that time this will be a cool $19.99.
It's getting great reviews, so I definitely want to check it out at some point.

Single player is really good. Multiplayer is pretty weak, basic DM on a big island. The view distance is really far and has no fogging. Tons of lush vegetation and gorgeous water.
Also new for the PC lately:
Far Cry: awesome
Battlefield Vietnam: awesome
Unreal Tournament: awesome
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow: awesome
Apparently PC gaming is not dead yet!!!!

I will be upgrading in the next 12 months and once I do I hope to pick this game up. My current computer, a 500mhz/192 mb ram/Geforce 2 beast will definitely not play this game. The reviews I read really got me psyched about playing it and it will be a good game to test out my new system when I get it.

Fantastic game. Very immersive and open ended environments, AI that calls for backup and hides behind objects/flushes you out with grenades. It's the first PC game in a long time that I find myself putting up with ok framerates so I can play it at a higher detail setting - much like how Half Life chugged at certain places on my PC back then. It does have improved performance from the demo.
The combination of the environment/physics/AI and amazing game engine makes for a very addictive game.

I really like it so far. Runs a lot better than the demo. I'm having a lot of fun with the single-player campaign. The AI is pretty decent, and acts intelligently most of the time. Although, sometimes they will do stupid stuff like stand there while I'm shooting them. The physics are really nice and I like the weapon selection. Haven't tried the multiplayer, but I'd say it's a pretty solid single-player experience.

This game looks pretty fun, but I'm going to wait a few months until I uprade my system for Half-life 2.
Do you get to wear Hawaiin shirts in this game? That's all I really care about.

I really enjoyed the game, but my system isn't nearly good enough to play it the way it was meant to be played. My ATI 8500 could barely keep up at the lowest settings. So while I wasn't blown away by the graphics I did enjoy the game play. My only complaint is that the stealthy gameplay options tend to disappear later in the game and it turns into a run-n-gun for some stretches. But I understand it wasn't exactly designed to be a pure stealth game (like Splinter Cell) and was happy they included as much as they did.
The story and voice acting were serviceable, but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the weakest voice acting is for your character. The guy isn't horrible, just a bad actor. Also I would have liked a little more back story in the beginning. You don't even find out the background of your character, or his relationship with the woman, until about halfway thru the game. There is a one paragraph setup in the manual, but it should have been in the opening video, which is just confusing as is.
Oh, and I was also VERY pleased with the length of this game. It was plenty long enough. I hope other game makers take note.

Just thought I would add that the Assault mode in multiplayer is actually really fun. The lush jungle makes for lots of good sneaking and it plays fast and strategic. Three basic player classes, soldier, sniper and mechanic. I still marvel at the graphics. They look better than the screenshots above if you have the horsepower, scale down very nicely if you don't.

The game IS difficult until you stop playing it like a run and gun shooter. It is not exactly a tactical shooter either though. You just have to slow down, crouch a lot and try and see your foe before he sees you. and finally the most important tip of all.......
USE YOUR BINOCULARS OFTEN!
Not only does it let you listen in to funny conversations and identify the locations of foes, it also marks them on your mini radar and color codes them based on alertness.
Very cool and super helpful for sniping and bushwhacking.

Finished the game this weekend. The final levels are amazingly Bondish, especially the volcano level. The plot twists are fairly obvious though. Superb single player overall.
I just began to play the multiplayer. It's not bad at all. It will be off the hook once mods start to get released.
