PhillyClassic 5 - Video game show

www.phillyclassic.com is coming this weekend March 20-21 and it looks to be $10.00 admission at the door.

Last year's sucked IMO, we paid $20 a pop to get in only to find a scant handful of arcade machines compared to the previous year. Hopefully this year will be better. I am going to check it out again only because its now $10 and they are claiming 100! retro-gaming arcade machines will be present...and frankly any time I can play Gorf or Zookeeper on free play has me interested.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who is in the Philadelphia/Valley Forge area.

Dunno, I guess check the website...I would think Saturday though as that seems to be the day when most of the activities are being done.

Well, I went to this on Saturday. The fact that I'm just posting this now is a testament to my skills of procrastination.

Anyway. it was a lot of fun. At least 50 classic arcade games (most set to free play), plenty of classic games and other stuff for sale, and a selection of rhythm games available to play. I finally got a chance to play Taiko no Tatsujin, which was a lot of fun - and it's apparently scheduled for release in the U.S. later this year. I also got plenty of time in at the arcade games, and dropped about $100 on classic game stuff. I have a page with pictures here if you're curious what it was like. It was well worth the $10 to get in, and I'd highly recommend going next year if you're not too far from Philly.

I live a couple towns up from Valley Forge/KOP...sorry I missed it. Would have been fun to take my GF's son to this. Maybe next year if I stay in the area.

By the way, Dragon's Lair kicks major hiney!

OMG!!! Food Fight was my favorite back in the day. This would be a perfect game to come out on a classics collection because all controllers nowadays have two analog sticks.

Do they sell arcade games as well? I know when I lived in Chicago there was a yearly convention where they sold arcade games for cheap - like $100 for some good cabinet games. Are there any good deals like this at PhillyClassic? I may have to go to this one next year to get a few pieces of "furniture" when I move to KOP.

There were a handful of arcade games that had signs on their sides mentioning that they were for sale. However, since I'm not in the market for arcade games right now, I didn't really look too closely at the prices. If I remember correctly, they were going for several hundred dollars since they were all in very good shape. If you're looking to get arcade games cheap, try searching for arcade auctions in your area. I went to one here in New Jersey last fall and got a fairly crappy empty Spy Hunter cabinet for $30. I fixed it up a bit and turned it into a MAME cabinet. There were complete games in good shape going for $50-150 at the auction, but I don't currently have the space for more than one cabinet. Anyway, Philly Classic really seemed to focus more on consoles, at least in terms of stuff that was for sale.
