I seem to remember there was one animalities in the final revision of MK2. I believe somebody turned into a tiger, but to tell you the truth, I really have no idea.

Between Arch Rivals, Gauntlet 2, Narc, Pit Fighter, Primal Rage, and Total Carnage, I must of spent a couple hundred of dollars on at the arcade over the years. This is going to be another nice compilation.

How the hell are they going to emulate some of these games? MAME requires a ridiculously powerful machine to get MKII running at an acceptable speed. The PS2 version of the original Midway Arcade Treasures choked on Smash TV; is the PS2 really going to be able to handle MK3 and Primal Rage? If they pull this off it's definitely going to be one of the most impressive feats of emulation ever.
For what's it's worth this comes pretty close to my "fantasy lineup":
Hard Drivin'
Race Drivin'
Steel Talons
S.T.U.N. Runner
Hydra
Cyberball
Cyberball 2072
Pit Fighter
Total Carnage
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
APB
Championship Sprint
Trog!
High Impact Football
Super High Impact
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
NBA Jam
NBA Jam Tournament Edition
I like this lineup better than what they actually came up with (naturally), but of course they've gotta save something for volume 3.

Definitely a sweet lineup!
But I'm not getting my hopes up. Considering how awful the controls were in the first one (on such "primitive" games), it seemed like it was really just thrown together to make a quick buck. I'm expecting more of the same for volume 2.
At least this way I'll be pleasanlty surprised if they can pull it off.

Holy cow...S.T.U.N. Runner is even on there! I loved that game! By the way, you think there'll be any possibility for a combo deal or a 2-pack for both volumes? I've put off buying the first on for too long...

I personally think sales of this would double on the Xbox and PS2 platforms if it was playable on XBL/PS2 NA.

Does anyone really pay $50 for a game?
$20 is my pricepoint for almost any game.
And speaking for the general public and not just the bargain shoppers here, A LOT more people buy games that are at the cheaper price points. Impulse buying is much more practical at $20 than $50.
And also, people would expect more quality if they priced these compilations higher. I bought the first, and almost all compilations because it was cheap, and decent retro fun for a decent price. But the quality (controls) on most of these compilations is quite lacking. I almost regret some of my retro pack purchases even at the $10-15 I pay. No way would I pay $50, especially for the Midway efforts.
So basically I disagree with you on many levels

I personally think it wouldn't. Actually I don't "think" anything, I know it wouldn't. Not to sidetrack this thread into a completely different conversation (i.e. whether or not online gaming is in fact a gigantic sales-doubling draw, which has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum) but you're hugely overestimating.

I couldn't find any numbers as to how many the first version sold, but I'm guessing it's relatively few. 50-100K tops? I remember I bought it for my boss at Xmas, I visited a bunch of places and nobody had it even out yet (it was in the back ofa BB store eventually) and not because they sold so many, the stores just didn't order it.
So basically it's a niche/fringe title that has some appeal for old school gamers, but it's not outselling GTA.
Now let's talk about XBL and online console games in general. How there's, what about 2 million online console gamers when you count XBL and PS2/NA? Maybe more? And right now I wouldn't say there are tons of games out there justifying people's $60/year purchase of XBL or the NA. People want to buy games to justify those purchases (eg. "I bought a DVD player I should buy DVDs"). There's basically an online console gaming drought right now.
Now you release a game like this which there doesn't exist any like it on XBL or PS2NA, and suddenly it's a unique title. Something that even MAME can't provide (I can play all of these games for free on MAME already). Juice it up a little, add some crazy tournaments/whatever. I mean we're talking NBA JAM HERE.
I bet 10% of the XBL/PS2NA userbase would get it. That's 100K people. Now I'm not even sure how many people bought the original, it could have been more like 20-50K, but it wouldn't take a lot to double the numbers I imagine.
How hard would it be to program that? Who cares, it would pay for itself easily. Not very hard I either I bet, with the SDKs out there. Heck, just put it on XBL and save some money on infrastructure, you'll still cleanup.
I don't think every single game made would benefit so much being online capable, but I feel many companies are missing the boat. I also don't see why ANYONE would act like it's a bad thing to be online capable (except Josh Hinkle of course
). That's just something that'd be good for everyone.
