Nintendo put out their official press release on the matter, its pretty much what everybody already knows but its the official:
"February 10, 2004 - Nintendo Co. Ltd. issued a statement this morning in regard to Monday's report from Japan's Nihon Keizai business daily, which suggested that the company might temporarily forgo development of a GameCube successor. Following, Nintendo's official response:
"Contrary to what has been reported in one Japanese publication, Nintendo is staying in the console hardware business and still plans to launch our next home console in the same timeframe as our competitors. In addition, we are working on a number of complementary technical advances that we believe may significantly enhance the gaming experience. We also continue to look for exciting ways to extend the value of the Nintendo GameCube, and will share those ideas with you in the coming months.
"Specific details about other accessories or systems and their functionalities haven't yet been made public. However, we will make further information about our next console available in the near future, and we look forward to further demonstrating our record of breakthrough innovation in video game play."

Sounds like dirty Sony/MS subterfuge to me.
Then again it could just as easily be Nintendo denial.
Hmmmm.....

They would be better off to come out with something in the middle of Box2 and PS3 to mix things up a bit,by that time it will have better spec's and it will give them time to have the sickest launch of all time with Mario,Metroid,Zelda,StarFox and maybe a Mario Kart game,if they played there cards right they could become big winners, there mistakes have always been when they launch a console then make you wait a year for all the killer apps, they need to turn this around.
