Seriously, I do wish parents would exercise more responsibility when choosing games for their kids. If people actually observed those M ratings, perhaps we wouldn't get so much negative press and self-censoring by the developers (perhaps fearful of lawsuits). I love having games targeted for adults. There are plenty of age-appropriate games. If your child is really into that sort of gameplay, why not get him Simpsons Hit & Run instead? Games like GTA and Manhunt shouldn't be expierenced by those too young to put games like that in the proper context of fantasy and escapism. If kids get the idea that it's fun and funny to go around killing innocent people, it isn't likely to make them into a Dylan Klebo or John Lee Malvo, but it will, on some level, teach him to devalue human life, which is bad enough. There are plenty of great fantasy and adventre games out there for pre-teens. No point in rushing into the most mature of the M rated games.

If I had a 10 year old, this isn't the game I'd choose for him. Sorry if this makes me a sissy (like I care), but I just don't think it's age appropriate.

Any discussion regarding this game and a 10 year old kid is going to inherently include feedback on 'raising kids.' And those opinions are 'examples on why not.'
You came here and said 'Should I let my 10 year old son play thiw game?' What is that other than an opening for 'personal opinions on how to raise a family', at least as regards to video games/this specific video game?
And actually, that speaks well of many of the people who participated. Rather than saying 'It's too violent', they said 'It's too violent etc FOR AN AVERAGE TEN YEAR OLD KID,' recognizing that above- and below- average kids, and that many things aren't good or bad in themselves, but rather how they're used and by whom.

Didn't you say he already played GTA3, which is basically the same game as GTA:VC, except you kill hookers and cops, blast thugs heads off with shotguns, run over pedestrians, blow stuff up and try to take over the crime business in Vice City, instead of Liberty City?
But yes, there are differences: GTA3 didn't have the awesome chainsaw that you can use to hack people up.

A simple NO, not a good idea, with maybe an example as to why he shouldn't would have been fine. No one was asking you how to raise a child, rather I was just looking for information so that I can make an informed decision. Oh, by the way, the quilt was funny. Thanks it is nice to know that if I need information on a video game I can come here and get it as well as personal opinions on how to raise a family.

You already f***ed up. Its good to see that you have looked to what other children are playing rather than making a decision on what your child should play. If that isn't a cry for "help me raise my child" than I don't know what is.

Hey dude, leave Metman alone. At least he has the dignity and sensibility to come to an internet anonymous gaming board to see if he really screwed up or if Vice City is as good as Dodgeball (which it is not).
