DVD Talk Gold Edition
Picked mine up from BB just a little while ago. It wasn't out on the shelves, but on one of those little rolling racks they use to bring merchandise out on the floor. Pulled it off while looking for BG&E, and looking forward to getting online with it soon.

The reviews have been less than stellar so far according to Metacritic, with a score in the mid-70's. I'll wait until IGN reviews it, but so far I'm a little disappointed in most reviews. Game Pro did fgive it a perfect 5.0, but they do that for almost every game. I might end up getting Top Spin instead. Any opinions here positive or negative would be appreciated.
BTW: I'm a little fuzzy about this whole XSN thing. How is it fundementally different than regular Live? I get they have rankings and tournaments, but is that all there is?

Spent the last hour or so playing around with it, and you can tell that this is their first iteration on a console b/c it feels like a first game in a series. Can't really put my finger on anything that's not good, but there are a few little things that bug me. Example: the inability to change your club when looking at the hole overview. Each time you have to change your club, look at the overview, adjust, quit, and repeat. On a par 5, when trying to play it in 3, it can get a little tedious.
As far as multiplayer goes, tried out the fast stroke play and that was a pretty good time, look forward to playing some match play online at some point; however, as of yet there aren't that many people out there playing (although, I'm sure that's a common complaint when a game first comes out).

Yeah sjividen, I'm thinking the same thing.
"Why isn't there a crazy cutshot and explosion after I drive the ball well?"
We'll see. I'm more than happy continuing on with playing links on a computer with the 3 click style if need be, but the XBL part seems promising.

How would a fan of console golfs game approach this?
I love Mario Golf and Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo Pocket), but I'm really starting to just love golf in general. I don't care about animations or explosions, just as long as I'm having fun playing golf!

Would owners of both this and Top Spin please weigh in on which one they like better (and why). I'm really overextended, but my best friend and I are having a blast on Live and would be interested in playing one of those two games together. Any thoughts?

I have and love Top Spin. The only problem is the load times are just plain crap. It even takes time to load if you buy a new shirt! Maddening!
I played Links for only 10 mins so far and think it is really good. The load times are normal and the game plays quickly.
Top Spin is going to give you a more action packed, thumb busting online game, while Links is obviously going to be a mellower experience.
There are $10 off Best Buy coupons floating around for both games.
I dont think either one is a loser.

I never used to do this. I'd used to wonder how people would have stacks and stacks of games and DVDs laying around and not open them for awhile. I usually open everything I buy right away, even if I don't play it right away

Glad to see a really positive comment about it. Any features really stand out, Gallant?
I am looking forward to playing both this and Top Spin online vs everyone

Top Spin and Links are both great... tough to pick one over the other, if you're going online. If you're looking to play solo, offline, Links will clearly be the longer-lasting.
The only complaint I have about Links is that I wish it were a little tougher to hit a shot perfectly straight. It seems like the developers went a little easy on us, even on Advanced.
By the way, the idea of no meters on Advanced is good in theory, but Intermediate seems the most logical way to play, in my eyes.
P.S. Sorry I couldn't join you last night, Gallant Pig... maybe next time.

Finally!
After 4 days of calling the CC, Target, and Wal-Marts in my area, one of the Wal-Marts finally got a copy. As soon as I get my 100' cable, I'll be seeing you guys online.

So what is everyone playing mizer? Intermediate? My player is advanced and it is challenging but not overly so. I haven't tried with intermediate yet.
Hope we can get a game going soon!
