i guess the lack of response means either no one knows enough about this game or nobody cares..!
i for one can't wait for this game to come out! the amazing graphics have this noir-ish look to it. there really doesn't seem to be much information on it but that's okay with me. makes it more interesting. i'm hopeful that it will live up to my expectations.

Has anyone picked up this game? I have it on pre-order at GR wondering if I should go pick it up. So far, the following reviews are up:
Game Informer 7.5 out of 10
Nintendo Power 8.5 out of 10
So anyone playing it have any comments or short review?

This game looks crazy, I'm expecting very mixed reviews based on impressions from people who have the japanese version.
The US version was pushed back until July 7th right?

Wow, this got a 1.5 out of 5 in Gamepro.
Not that I pay any attention to their shitty reviews, but they tend to overrate games.
Amazed it's so low with them when the other reviews posted above are pretty high, especially the Famitsu one (though I don't agree with their reviews all the time either).

I will definitely not be preordering this one.

Now EGM reviews I trust more than any other source.
Looks like I'll be passing on this one.
Shame, it sounded like an interesting concept. But sounds like the dropped the ball by making it a very limited on rails type game with very little freedom of movement.

36/40 from Famitsu is a real good score and considering all these reviews in America are probably from diehard FPS fans I still am looking forward to the Killer 7 experience. I'm really interested in the story so a cool noir anime with me in control sounds sweet. I don't need another souless, storyless FPS.

I don't like FPS games either, but the reviews are mainly knocking it for the gameplay sucking because it's on very tight rails and you do nothing other than move forward, ocassiaonally make a turn and ocassionally shoot something.
That doesnt' sound like much fun to me, and I don't care about stories in non RPGs so that doesn't help either.

After reading the IGN review (8.1 for the GameCube and 7.9 for the PS2) I have completely changed my mind about this game and I understand why it will be hated by most. The game is way too old school in control and story driven. However this is the part of the review that has me preordering the game tomorrow.
Snatcher is my favorite game of all time and Myst is one of the greatest PC Adventure games ever. If Killer 7 can offer anything on that level its a must buy for me.
This is a particularly difficult game to review because its Achilles heel is its awkward control setup, which feels archaic by today's standards. And yet, despite this issue we're confident that players who adore old-school adventure games like Myst and Snatcher will enjoy -- maybe even love -- Killer 7 for the very same reasons. Capcom has delivered a game with a bold vision and an intriguingly "out there" storyline that is bound to keep players guessing until the very end.

I don't see any opinions of this game so i'm guessing everyone was too afraid to try this one out. I picked it up tonight and have been playing it for a few hours.
Now I knew this game was going to be weird going into it, but it is seriously fucked up. I have somewhat of a grasp of whats going on but other than that I have no idea. And the characters you talk to are downright creepy. The controls are pretty simple. It really plays out like a point and click adventure kind of, however you'll encounter the enemy in certain places and you can blow them away. Nothing too special, but then again you won't be playing this game for the gameplay, I've gotten hooked on the story after I finished the first mission. Plus the presentation and style of the game is incredible.
You can switch persona's who have different shooting mechanics and special skills. You're pretty much thrown into the game so the first mission is a bit of a doozy, there's some minor help and hints but you'll learn more just by going through. Don't want to give away too much but when I got to the first boss i almost dropped my controller on the floor because i threw my hands up in confusion.
also this game is definately not for kids (violence and language-wise more so than other games). There is a somewhat funny part in that one of the persona's says "fuck you!" every time you hit a vital on the enemy. so if there's a lot of enemies you'll be hearing "Fuck You! Fuck you! Fuck You! You're Fucked!"
.
I'd recommend getting the Gamecube version because of the quicker load times as it does load rooms often (you'll be thankful for it). I'm still not sure what to think of the game other than I'm looking forward to playing more and finding out more of the story. Make sure you have an open mind and aren't expecting modern gameplay when you approach this one. Also i recommend sticking with it until you at least finish the first mission at the very least to get idea of what the game is really about (the frequent talks with Iwazume goes away after the first mission) (I did nearly give up halfway through the first mission because I kept dying until i figured out how to upgrade my characters).

Myst is obviously the PC Adventure game most people remember.
You need to realize why those two games where choosen. Myst was chosen to show the similarities between the way you move through the environments in Killer 7 and the old PC Adventure games. Snatcher was choosen because like Killer 7 it was a game that involved puzzle solving and shooting.
They weren't trying to dis all the other great PC Adventures games we remember, just that Killer 7 related closely to those two classic games in presentation. And yes, Snatcher is one of the greatest Adventure games ever made. Hideo Kojima's console classic stands up with any other point and click type PC game I have ever played and I pretty much played them all. Policenauts was even better, but never got an English translation.

Just wanted to throw out another positive review for this one. I'm really digging it. I'm not finding the controls to be nearly as difficult to grasp as I've heard. They are certainly different, but I find them refreshing in a way. To me, its clearly a puzzle game with some action thrown on top.
Also, many reviews have complained that the game doesn't do a good job of teaching you how to play the game, doesn't help you with the functionality, or give you any clues as to how to proceed. This simply isn't true. Granted, you do have to pay attention and occasionally read though the help menus. The information is not slapped up on the screen for you at all appropriate times, but it is there, and accessible.
This really is as close to a 'classic adventure game' as we are likely to see on the consoles. If you have any love for those, give this a shot. If you are looking for mindless fps action, you'd better pass on it.
One last thing - I think its important to encourage developers to develop innovative, orginal IPs like this, so I really hope enough people pick this up to make it worth their while. Games like this really are a rarity these days... so if you are on the fence and just need a little push, give that some thought.

I'm glad to see there's another person out there who's not afraid to try something different
.
I got to the second disc (I didn't realize this was a 2 disc game when I bought it) so I figured thats a good a time as any to give some updated impressions. The pieces of the story are starting to fall together but at the same time it asks about 1000 other questions. The more I get into the game the more fucked up it seems. There's some scenes that are beyond words.
who the hell thought of that???? but at the same time it is exactly whats lacking in a lot of games these days. If you like to be spoon fed your story and analysis then this is definitly not for you This game makes you think. The voice acting is excellent. There are 7 unique voices for each persona, each with their own mood swings and attitudes, but also the in-game NPC's speak in a very odd 'ghost-ish" speak that makes for a very creepy effect.
I also love the jab Yoon Hyun takes at people who are too lazy to figure out puzzles on their own
, almost brings a tear to my eye what a great sense of humor Capcom has.
Which character's do you usually use? I'm up through chapter 4 and at this point I like using Con Smith with his double action guns and quick reload for battles, not to mention his stress relieving "Fuck you!" when you hit the enemy, but characterwise I can't help but have a soft spot for Mask. "I'm not a monster, it's just a mask!"
. He seems to be the most normal out of the bunch (at this point). And of course have to mention Travis with the awesome t-shirts (even though he's an NPC).

I finally beat this game. The last few hours were insane, but it had one of the best endings I've seen in awhile. It's pretty deep and makes you think about the whole events of the game and past the game too. All in all, I'm not sure if the game was worth $50, but it was one hell of a ride, and worth playing through. I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone though, it is certainly a breath of fresh air though. And there are many parts of the game that are very disturbing, graphically and psychologically, it earns it's M rating and then some (good thing not as many people are playing it as GTA or ESRB will change it to AO). This has got to be the weirdest game I've ever played, it messes with your head and emotions. Fantastic soundtrack, many upbeat stealthy themes, as well as some creepy ones that are just whack.
I'm very interested in seeing what Suda 51 makes next. For the type of game that it was, I liked the controls quite a bit. It is sort of a cross between an old school Adventure game and an action game with first person shooting rather than the "on rails shooter" description people have giving it. The shooting never gets old. And the boss fights are nicely done. Some of the later environments are somewhat complicated so its nice that your character knows exactly where he/she needs to go. In the end, it's an incredibly stylish, confusing, contemplative, original, fucked up game that I really hope there's a sequel to. yeah i think that about sums it up.

For anybody that has beaten the game (Outlaw is the only one to have posted this), is it a long game? I'm thinking about renting it, and would like to know if I'd be able to beat it in one rental. Speaking of which, how many days is a Blockbuster game rental nowadays? I have a habit of consulting a FAQ if i'm nearing the return date for the game and I still haven't beaten it. I don't like renting games more than once, and I'd like to see the ending before I do return it.

Took me about 15 hours I think. I took my time through it since I've been super busy with work this week. You could probably finish it in your rental period (what is it now like 7 days I think?). The puzzles aren't too difficult to figure out (the boss fights are sort of puzzles as well). There's actually a guy near the puzzles giving you hints (and something else as well
) if you get stuck. even if you use the faq, i think you would still enjoy the game, this game is all about presentation, style, story, characters, and killing (obviously),but you shouldn't need it
.
good luck finding a rental place that has it, i was going to rent it too but there's probably 10 blockbusters in driving distance around me and none of them had it.
"Tomorrow it could be you."
