Update after screwing around with this last night. COD does not support auto-download of maps, so you have to have to download any maps you are interesting in playing.

A patch is on the way soon, it's currently with Activision for testing.

It is a rare game that has a strong singleplayer and multiplayer experience. I was playing online one evening when everybody took notice of this guy who was really good. He'd found a nice sweet spot on the map, where he was relatively safe but could take out a lot of our men.

He was driving my whole team crazy, so in one of the rounds we said "Screw the objective: rush that dude!" So here we were, 25 guys just streaming to get one. We got him, but there were only about five survivors on our side. Hilarious stuff.

I later found out that the guy we were after was the president of Infinity Ward (the developers of the game).

This was in S&D mode, on the mp_rocket map, I believe, there is a little building on the far right edge of the map (if you are the attacker). He would hang in and around that building, mostly behind it, with an MP44. Note, that this wasn't a solo affair: his flanks were well-covered by teammates.

I played Team Deathmatch last night in a server that had 2 hours in its timeclock. Couldn't believe it...killing and respawning for non-stop two hours in one map.

What thrilled me more was that the players on both teams were just incredible. You could see that there was teamwork and tactical strategies being used considering players on both sides knew the map inside/out.

I'm suprised everyone says the multiplayer is so good. I know a lot of Day of Defeat players and they were saying the single player is good (if you like MoH type game play) but the multiplayer is bad.

Most DOD advocates I've talked to don't seem to like much else besides DOD, so their opinion doesn't hold as much weight with me. DOD was okay (IMO), but nothing uber-special. I prefer Counterstrike to DOD. Once I finish the single player of Call of Duty, I'll check out the multiplayer.

Someone asked earlier about sequels and Activision announced recently (maybe even today) that a sequel to Call of Duty is in the works (aside from the console versions coming out in '04).

As for DoD and CoD, I would choose DoD over CoD. The action is more fast paced and the physics are more realistic. Plus the MGs play a more important role, whereas in CoD using the MG-42 = sniped in 5 sec or less. Hopefully the upcoming patch fixes some of the physics issues.

I enjoy playing both.

I've run into several clans that have switched completely from DOD to COD. A lot of ex-MOH clans out there as well.

Yea! I bought it the other day for $30 at Best Buy. What a damn awesome game!

But Im having a small problem. Whenever a new lever starts or an automatic save occurs, the game starts freezing and skipping and moving REAL choppy. I usually die on those parts and it ****ing sucks. Anyone know what the problem might be. I would really appreciate some help here.

This is correct.

Call of Duty is PC only.

Call of Duty: Finest Hour is for the consoles, and is a completely different game.

There was an supposedly an article about Finest Hour in the latest issue of Game Informer. Any subscribers want to give us the poop?

Problem is that whenever I get into that server, it tells me that an error has ocurred and I cannot load the map. This error keeps on coming eventhough I downloaded the maps that I wanted to play fm CODFiles.

Pls help...

If anything, CoD is certainly more stable than DoD. I haven't played CoD, but nothing can be more unstable than DoD/Steam.
