I own both THPS 1&2 and both are/were great. I never did get around to playing THPS 3. I rented THPS 4 a few months back and for some reason I just couldn't get into the game. I dunno why, I guess the charm of the series wore off because it basically had a been there done that kind of feel to me.

In some ways, Tony Hawk's Underground is a bit of a disappointment. The way the game attempts to focus on the story, yet can't deliver a particularly interesting story, really holds the game back, and the game doesn't feel as different from the previous Tony Hawk games as it could. Even with that problem, fans of the series will certainly find a lot to like here, and the different difficulty levels make the game more accessible to a wider range of players. Most importantly, the core gameplay is still extremely entertaining, and some of the new additions, like being able to get off your board and execute wall plants, do make for some interesting, new possibilities. PlayStation 2 owners will get an extra kick out of the cool face-mapping feature and online play as well. All things considered, Tony Hawk's Underground is another great installment in the franchise.

That's kind of a low score, especially considering they gave THPS3 a 10.0

But I can see why people that are hardcore fans keep playing for new levels, features etc.
Just like Hardcore sports fans buy madden/nfl2kx every year.

This is probably my favorite ongoing series, I own them all but the first! THUG is great, lots of stuff to do and new stuff to master. The only thing I don't like is the abundance of goals where you collect random things, I've always hated those missions.

It's only $37.99 this wekend at Fry's for all 3 consoles. If you picked up a copy at BB or CC, be sure to go back for a 110% PM this weekend (if you have a Fry's in your area).
I was going to pass, but that deal is awfully tempting...

I like(d) THUG, it is not my favorite of the THPS series by far, but I liked the levels and the tricks. The story mode was a little too easy IMO I beat it within two days. I haven't gone online with it yet since I just moved a month ago and have yet to hook up the PS2 back online, maybe this weekend if I can dig up the box with my extra ethernet cables.
I am glad
are included in the game, they are fun to hit with the THUG playability, thought they are a bit of a pain to open up at first.
The secret level is suck IMO and the hidden characters seem stupid to me (though I have not opened up the last one yet).
I have beat the initial story but I still need to do all the gaps and a few other things before I finish the whole game.
And for the record I have and love all the THPS games, though 1 and 2 were always the best. I liked the contained levels and the mindless play of it. It was a good game to mess around with when you had nothing to do. Now the games have too much going on storywise to be the mindless distraction it once was.

Okay, I've gotten 128/129 goals. What am I missing? I think I have to start over and play it with "sick" difficulty level, but it could be the 2 "old skool" levels I haven't found yet.
I like the game, but it's a disappointment compared to the last one. From what I've played so far, it's too easy.
I hate the driving.
I didn't like the walking at first, but it's growing on me a little. I do like having the option in there because it makes it easier to get to certain places (since you're not fighting against forward movement of your skater). I think the option to walk with your board should have been implemented just to go places and not have been part of the goals and combos. They really need to work on the control too.

I really don't care for the walking too much. Like you I like the ability to go places that you couldn't go without the walking, but I hate the fact that it is part of a combo trick. I could agree if it was counted as the beginning of a trick, but I think it is bullshit that you can jump off your board run around for 30 secs and jump back on into a trick and it counts as one trick. Running and jumping into a handrail is something that is done in skateboarding, but you don't don't some tricks jump off your board and jump back on it and count it as a "trick".

I started over on sick difficulty, and it is more challenging (although not much more until you get to Tampa). It might actually take me a week to get through it this time instead of two to three days. I don't think it will be as hard as THPS4 though. That one took me several months to get everything.
