Super Mario World followed closely by Super Mario Bros. 3.

If I had to rank the Mario series in 5 games it would go something like this,
1) Mario Bros. 3
2) Mario World
3) Mario 64
4) Mario Sunshine
5) Mario Bros. 2
Mario Bros. 3 that game takes me back to a time when me, and my older brother got along. SAturday afternoon my brother tells me to go to my room there is something waiting for me there. I walk into my room and BAM Mario Bros 3 is sitting on my bed. He told me it was a gift, and that he loved me(sadly if I knew now what I knew then). I thanked him endlessly and got right into playing this platforming masterpeice. I ended up beating it that very same day no warping. I started at 4 in the afternoon, stopped and turned off the system at 8 for dinner, and started again at 8:30. By the time I was done it was about 3 AM.
Mario World however was a different story. A year had passed after the SNES had been released and I kept wondering if I would ever own one. Well christmas time came I was suprised to find one waiting for me on that morning. I played the hell out of it, but didnt put forthe the effort I did when I played Mario Bros. 3 thanks to the save system. This was a game me and my sister played together and from time to time she'll call me and ask "..so how the hell do i get out of the Vanilla Dome??"
Mario 64 passed me by all together because I didnt buy a N64 I opted for the PlayStation, I wanted Resident Evil. I had friends tell me the game was damn_good, but never got the chance to play it until my sister got a 64 for christmas. I didnt know what to expect from this game but I knew things about it. My sister and I had fun getting through this game, but she mostly was doubled over in laughter because "Mario is cute" and it didnt help that I made Mario break dance every other second, or made him run around like he was in the "Sound of Music"
Sadly though when I play this game now it isnt the same without my sis to root me on.
Ahh Mario Sunshine. This was the first game I bought once I moved away from LA. I had pretty much decided this game would make my then sad experience better, and sure enough it did. It was during the time of that games release that I got my interviews with Game Crazy and got my job. Not that the game was responsible for my getting the job but it made coming home from a long day of job hunting rewarding. That and Im the only guy on the staff who has finished the game
Mario Bros. 2..You know I was an early subscriber to Nintendo Power, and made it my duty to know more than my friends who always said "Man I dont know why you're reading those dumb books, it ruins the game, and reading is stupid" oddly enough that guy never finished school...anyways. While my friends toiled away at Mario 2 I too kept playing it and would share my know-how with them whenever I came over. Sadly they never wanted to listen, so I ended up beating the game before they did....they werent pleased.
OK time ot go break out Mario All Stars
