Metal Slug 3 Not Coming Stateside
10/7/2003
SNK Neo Geo USA's attempt to publish Metal Slug 3 for PlayStation 2 in the United States has been prevented by Sony Computer Entertainment America's third-party concept approval process, according to sources close to the game's publication.
The PS2 port of the cult favorite side-scrolling shooter was released in Japan in June, and SNK discussed its plans to release the game in the United States at E3. It was tentatively scheduled to arrive in December. However, it appears that it will now only find its fans among import buyers.

SNK should go find a new home with Nintendo or Microsoft..
What the fizzuck is this crap? They deny Y's I & II and Metal Slug 3, but every month we are graced with the best of the best from the likes of Acclaim and THQ. Sony is not helping put a PS2 in my house, that's for damn sure. I probably would've cracked for Y's I & II.

Yet they allow a whole lot of other crap. Maybe it will come to GBA.

was the game bad?
I would think if they thought the game would sell they would allow it.
Maybe they needed to allow the player to cap some hookers or something

Metal Slug 3 is an awesome action/platform/shooter. It bests Contra (IMO). Truly, it is a really fun little game that relies on 2D animation and tough levels (level 5 is almost as long as the other 4 stages combined).
I have been playing it ever since it was originally released on the Neo Geo a few years ago. I am still amazed at the quality of the game and plays it every now and then just to get into a simple dodge and shoot (but tough as nails) shooter with a sense of humor and unbelievable animation. I wish more people can play it here but apparently, Sony doesn't think you need or care to.

I didn't realize that Sony has a 3rd party concept approval process, considering some of the shit that gets released. I think they just want to keep SNK down. I love the Metal Slug series.

That article is a load of crap.
Metal Slug 3 is still coming to the US:
October 07, 2003 - As some of you may have read on other videogame websites earlier today, it was reported that Metal Slug 3 has been cancelled for American PlayStation 2s. The first we had heard of it ourselves, we here at IGN decided to call the folks at SNK Neo Geo ourselves to get to the bottom of it. Written below is SNK's official statement regarding Metal Slug 3:
"Published reports regarding Metal Slug not coming stateside are incorrect. SNK is still in development to publish the game for PlayStation 2, contingent on Sony's approval process. Sony often asks for changes to a product before giving approval, and it is SNK's intention to work with Sony to make sure this product can come out for the PS2. It's unfortunate that certain gaming sites make stories out of non-news, without ever bothering to fact check."
And so there you have it, Metal Slug 3 is still planned for stateside -- we'll be back with more on its progress as it develops.

Well that's good news for the most part. This part still irks me though.
I mean really, it's a 2d side scrolling action game. What would need to be changed besides localizing the text for the most part besides little things.
And Sony has pulled this stunt before with Capcom and more recently with Working Designs and the Growlanser Series. Y's I&II as well.

"Published reports regarding Metal Slug not coming stateside are incorrect," the company said in a statement. "SNK is still in development to publish the game for PlayStation 2. It is SNK's intention to work with Sony to make sure this product can come out for the PS2."
SNK offered no indication as to when the game will release or what its price point might be.
Old-school gamers may remember Metal Slug 3 from the 1990s--the 2D shooter was available both in arcade and NeoGeo MVS versions. The game is currently available for the PS2 in Japan and retails for around $55, while mint copies of the US MVS edition can fetch upward of $250 on eBay.
