Maybe you'll get lucky and get "Mega Man Collection PLUS" ala the Sonic Mega Collection and PS2.

Minor nitpicking, but they only started manufacturing those last month; there's still thousands of unopened units out there with the digital out still included. I believe it's possible to tell when a particular unit was manufactured by looking at the barcode on the bottom of the system (which is visible through the box) but I don't know what to look for specifically.

What's this? Is PS2 getting a Sonic Collection? Do you have a link I can check out?

Thanks

People are almost positive that SONIC CD will be on there. I'm really hoping it will have Knuckles Chaotix for the 32X. That game still fetches close to 25$ on Ebay.

Sega probably had a good excuse in the size of the GC disk for the limited "collection". There shouldn't be any excuses for a PS2 release? Put them on all on a dvd disk and I'm there.

Well I couldn't wait. Picked it up at Wal-Mart. Read through the manual last night. Says there is an option to set the number of lives you get and difficulty level. ?!? That is pretty lame. Pretty much putting a cheat in there for the young'uns that haven't played a truly difficult game in their life.

Going to play right now.

Target has this advertised for $26.88 this week (both versions).

Picked my Gamecube version up from Wal-Mart several days ago, for $29.99. Great so far. I just wish I could save more than one game at a time.

Do you know of any resources where I could look into this? I was under the impression that there was no way to tell which type of unit you buy until you get it home and open it up. I hadn't heard this about the barcode until you mentioned it here.

Not really. Most of the space on the Mega Collection disc is taken up by the video extras. The games themselves aren't that big -- Genesis/MD games are all negligibly tiny by modern standards (no Genesis/MD game was ever larger than 6 MB). Sonic CD weighs in at something like 400 MB but the overwhelming bulk of that space is taken up by the Redbook audio; if they had converted the music to a compressed format (like MP3s, for example), which wouldn't have been too difficult to do, they could've cut that down by at least half, probably more. Even if they hadn't they still could've made room for it by cutting back on the extras. Certainly there wasn't much reason not to include Chaotix, it's only 3 MB.

You can. The game treats each game as a different save. Just save whatever game you are playing to it's slot.

I think he meant like 2 different MegaMan3 saves at a time. I wondered about that too. Not a big deal though.

Mega Man rocks!! I forgot how challenging these games were.

I just started playing this morning. They first one is already bringing back memories of flinging my NES controller across the room out of frustration. I haven't had that feeling in a long, LONG time.

Not so sure. A lot of people don't know you can save more than one game, meaning you can have a save each for all 10 games.

Man! The GC controls are wack. I thought it would be easy to get used to b/c I haven't played these games in 10 years how hard can it be to learn jump & shoot. Well once I got going, the original play style from ages ago is implanted in my brain, kept me from just learning to use the new style. I keep hitting the wrong button at the wrong time, falling to my death.

odd how that is after all these years.

Not having any trouble with the PS2 controls, and the optional remixed soundtrack is sweet!

Okay, my brilliant idea was to beat these in order. Got through the bosses for Megaman and now I'm on Wiley's level. I can NOT beat this infernal rock monster. I can barely get him down to half.

Any ideas? I beat the game on my old NES, but I was younger then and my reflexes weren't dulled by beer and whiskey. For fear of destroying my PS2 controller, I had to stop even trying.

lol. I forget which board it was on 2, but at one point there were just 3 blocks and a cloud in the background.

My memory is fuzzy. Did the original games give you unlimited continues? Or was it fixed at 3?

Are you sure you didn't use the pause trick to beat him back in the day?

On Mega Man 1, if you rapidly pause and unpause while the elec beam is over an enemy, it counts each unpause as a hit. Was most popular to be used against the rock monster, but if I recall, it can be used on any enemy in the game (that actually takes damage from elec beam, of course).

It's possible, but I doubt it. When I was a kid, there was no Internet and I didn't get video game magazines. I doubt I would have ever known about it.

I rented this for GC yesterday. It has been years since I last played a Mega Man game, and the controls still felt awkward. I adjusted to them quickly, but man, I really suck at these games now.....I remember all the old frustrations, problem is so far I haven't even been good enough to get to those areas. I may buy this for PS2 today, so I'm going to be having some late nights with these games for the next few weeks, hopefully regain the old mega skills...
