If you want to see this game, there's a preview for this game on the in-store Gamecube demo disk. It looks sweet. In fact it looks like its done, but apparently not.

Isn't this just a compilation of old games?

Well with 3 delays i hope they've at least garphically updated some of the games. I'd be disappointed if it's 6 months late and its just an emulator-style collection. (like sega smash pack)

Does anyone know how they are putting the games together? I can't imagine they will be emulated as the games were licenced to the Nintendo hardware and you would need to emulate that -- not sure the big N would be altogether willing to support cross-platform emulation.
If not, if they are just being ported to the different boxes, then I hope they do a better job than some of the other retro packs.

I don't remember ever beating one of them. I think I was getting close on the third one when I was younger, had like 20 lives or something and was on the last stages after the normal levels, where you battle through the end bosses fortress. But I kept rewriting the password after I beat each of the end stages, and after I lost all my lives it took me back to the very beginning of them.
I remember the games being difficult, but not too hard. You just had to go in the right order. I never beat one, but I always rented them, never owned one.

Since it's already got a discount price of 29.99 i'm doubtful there will be any sales on it. Plus the leaked ads posted at CAG don't even mention it. So i'm planning on going to BestBuy and using a Gamer's gift card coupon. $24.99

I'm leaning towards the Gamecube version. IGN did a recent hands-on and said it felt awkward with the Dualshock, and that load times were OVER A MINUTE on the PS2.

True, they didn't test drive the GC version, but load times have never really been a problem on the cube. Also, if the cube controller feels awkward with the game, i could get that snazzy SNES import controller.
I'm upset there's no connectivity option. This game had great potential for hooking up with the GBA. I guess they didn't want to steal any thunder from the upcoming GBA mega man port. Either that or they're lazy.

I wish this was coming out on XBOX. I guess I'm gonna have to settle with the PS2 version though.

Gamecube: 5-8 seconds from menu to each individual game, with no loading after that
PS2: 10-15 seconds from menu to each individual game, with no loading after that.
Both received an 8.5, as a matter of fact, it looks like the reviews are identical except for the mention of loading times.

I'm jizzing myself in anticipation of this game!
I figure this is the best place to share my MegaMan story from almost 20 years ago:
It was 1985 or '86, I was in 8th or 9th grade (can't remember) and the original MegaMan was one of the first games I bought for my spanking new NES. I don't even know why I picked it up - It had just come out, I knew nothing about it (this was long before the days of the internet and videogame mags) and the back of the box only showed the level/boss select screen. But something drew me in. I immediately loved the game - the combination of the graphics (for the time), the levels and the ability to choose a level at the out-set made this one of the most playable games on the NES (this was even before the days of saves and passwords even, so the level select was a huge thing). It was so good that I wasn't even fazed by it's difficulty - I didn't even notice it was hard, it was just a challenge. I soon beat the game - but here's the thing: the instructions were so shitty, that I didn't even know I could switch weapons after I killed a boss. So the first few times I beat the game, it was just with the regular shot - my mind boggles when I think of that. One day I just paused it, and I noticed the menu from which you could select your acquired weapons, and I was floored - a great game became even better. Of course I picked up MegaMans 2, 3 and so on and they were all great - but nothing will beat my first exposure to this incredible franchise.
