What sequel would you make?
If you were in charge of a talented development group, had an unlimited budget, and 4 years what sequel would you make?
*Please omit games that already have sequels. (ie: Mario, GTA, Halo, etc.) Looking for some games that deserve another shot, but for whatever reason have been forgotten. Feel free to include plot lines and features of the game. |
Well, it shouldn't really count since a lackluster sequel was released in Japan, but I loved the original Bust a Groove game and would love to see a full-fledged sequel for the PS2.
|
Kid Icarus!! My mind is blank on how exactly the game would work in today's world.. but I miss that guy.
|
Mark of Kri had a unique look and style... I'd like to see them make a sequel to that. Perhaps something set in the same world with a few more interesting characters. The fighting and stealth controls were pretty nifty, but the whole thing kinda felt like one big training mission. By the time you learned all the skills and got all the weapons, you were done! A new adventure would be great...
I'd buy it... :D |
Valkyrie Profile!

Easy. ICO. I loved every aspect of this game. I've played through it atleast 10 times now and it's just as good each time.

A new Pilotwings game would be nice. I know it had a sequel (Pilotwings 64), but it's been seven years since that one was released and I haven't heard anything about another one. If our talented development team is going to take 4 years though, they might as well make it for Nintendo's next console. I suppose our unlimited budget would allow us to tear Miyamoto away from the multiple projects he's overseeing long enough to get his input.
|
Has there been a sequel to "Bionic Commando"? If not, that would absolutely be my choice.

Originally posted by ctyner Has there been a sequel to "Bionic Commando"? If not, that would absolutely be my choice. yep here: http://pocket.ign.com/articles/163/163460p1.html I loved Bionic Commando on the NES. Hopefully we will see one on a regular console sometime soon. |
I would second the Pilotwings mention and also add that i would go for a good sequel to Bushido Blade 1&2. Nothing like picking your character, weapon, and then dueling in an environment where you can try to lure the naginata user into the bamboo forest to cripple them. I also loved the ability to throw dirt in their eyes, cripple their arms and legs, and the fact that there was no energy bar. One solid slash with a broadsword and they died, i loved it. I also dug the fact that there were no real ridiculous moves, characters or weapons - it all seemed feasible.

I remember when Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret were at the top in there time and there totally fun and its been quite a while now so I would love to see a sequal for those.
|
I would have to make the sequel to Zak McKracken and the alien mindbenders. Such a fun game, I'd like to see Zak come back and take on that two-headed squirrel again.
|
Vagrant Story from PSone. That game was awesome. Never finished it though.
I also second ICO since I loved that game. Another few games I think would be fun as updates would be California Games (online of course) and Todd's Adventures in Slime World (from the Atari Lynx). Online games need more pick-up and play type, uh, games that you can play with minmal time investment. |
Games without sequels:
======================== Clive Barker's Undying Freedom Force Baku Baku (at least release this one for the GBA!) Gunstar Heroes Guardian Heroes Last Bronx (weapons-based competition for the Soul Calibur series) Quantum Redshift!!! Skies of Arcadia Starlancer (on the console) Enemy Zero Giants: Citizen Kabuto Re-Volt Sword of Berserk Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (it never was a sequel to begin with!) Powerball!!! The classic Sega Genesis game from Namco You could say Deathrow was a "sequel", but it wasn't as fast paced. Warhawk, the classic PSX shooter Syndicate Vagrant Story Sin and Punishment Blast Corps - !!! Tetrisphere Space Station Silicon Valley Body Harvest Rocket - Robot on Wheels Games with sequels: ======================== System Shock 2 MDK2 Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2!!! Keep this franchise going!!! Wip3out!!! Bring back the Red Bull sponsorship, Designers Republic designs and Cold Fusion tunes!!! Formula One by Psygnosis - why don't they use commentators in racing games anymore? Tempest 3k isn't it a crime only the Nuon got this??? Pilotwings Jeremy |
Jeremy, a sequel WAS planeed for Quantum Redshift (with ONLINE play), but Curly Monsters went kaput. :(
I would agree with you on a sequel to Wipeout 3 that's not Wipeout Fusion, but the truth is the people behind the first 3 Wipeout games formed a little group called Curly Monsters, and well.. |
Hmm, I forgot about Warhawk.. I guess it would be toss up between it and Kid Icarus then instead heh.
|
i would love a sequel to Kid Icarus!
-Rush 'n Attack...it would probably end up being like an updated Metal Gear game. -Skies of Arcadia...minus all the random battles, maybe even turn it into an aquatic adventure! -Deception...even though this game did have a couple of sequels already (psone) i would love to see them make a brand new one for the latest consoles! |
I'd pay a good amount of money for the chance to play Shadowrun 2(Put it on the GBA you bas****'s!!) A sequel to Pilotwings would be great as well..
|
Masters of Orion II, the developed and released sequel was awful.

I never played Deception 3 - I have it, but never played it. That will be one of those games I spend an afternoon with when I dust off the PSX in a year or so... Jeremy |
I would make a sequel to Deathrow, one the most underrated games that came out for the xbox. A little more work on that game and it could of been great!
|
Lots of good stuff already mentioned, and I thought I'd add:
X-Com UFO Defense - Not a fps, or a flight sim, but back to the basics turn based squad action. Phantasy Star - Forget the online crap, gimme a real honest to god Phantasy Star rpg with a good story and character development. Bushido Blade - No health bars, no nothing. Take the engine of the first one and update the graphics and extras. Three stances, a horizonal attack, a vertical one, a block button, nothing else. Bare bones. You get slashed with a sword, you die, plain and simple Grim Fandango - One of the greatest pc adventure games of all time, nuff said. |
Most wanted would be a true sequel to Baldurs Gate: Shadows of Amn (not like the console versions). It wouldn't necessarily have to follow directly on from the last but just be in the same mold.
Something like a modern remake of Star Control 2 for consoles would be pretty damn fine particularly with an updated melee game (SC3 on pc was disappointing). I second a proper Phantasy Star rpg as a true followup to the originals. None of this multiplayer rubbish :). I know a Streets of Rage game is coming soon but if they stuffed it up then I'd definitely be keen to try my hand. |
I would love to see a sequel to Freedom Force. I know there was supposed to be some followup games set in different comic book era's, but I don't know if the game sold well enough for them to make anymore. I'm going to hold out hope. I would love to see a game set in the gritty 80's era.
One another note I would love a followup to Beetle Adventure Racing from the N64. I had a blast playing that game. I wouldn't change anything about the gameplay, just more tracks and all the old ones. |

And there's old news Freedom Force is getting the sequel treatment, but who knows if it's ever going to come to fruition. Check this link: http://www.irrationalgames.com/forum/topic.asp?id=602 Also, Irrational did say FF sold well beyond expectations, and surprised EA with how well it did. Surprises me as well, because I didn't think it sold as well as the hype (IGN) led us to believe. Jeremy |
I would definitely second Blast Corps. and add another one: Uniracers. I think the latter would be perfect for the Wii. The former could be a great XBLA title, a $40 budget title, or a full-tilt $60 game.
As for games with sequels, I'd like to see Aero the Acrobat on the DS. |
Helluva bump. :)
Second and third the motions for: Kid Icarus Blast Corps. and add: Jet Force Gemini Kameo Viva Pinata Beyond Good & Evil Eternal Darkness Second Sight and had one sequel but a long abandoned franchises: Actraiser - 360/PS3 RC Pro Am - XBLA or even Wii And looking back at my list I have five Rare games. |
You can definitely tell a game is good when something as eccentric as Blast Corps is known by so many
|
Phantom Dust, Ring of Red, and Ninja Five-O all deserve sequels.
|
If they ever make Bad Dudes 2, I could die a happy man.
I would also love another No One Lives Forever game. NOLF2 ended with them saying they would be back, but they never came back. :( The developers, Monolith, have moved on into the horror genre with FEAR and Condemned, but I wish they would give us another NOLF game someday.

Also, Bioware no longer owns the D&D license. |
Speaking of the Video Games Live concert I went to last night, Ancel spoke at the concert he appeared at in London in November 2006 and said they were trying to get Beyond Good & Evil 2 going, see the link below. I really think it should be a Wii exclusive.. but this would be the game to make me buy any other system if it was released.

Ancel has been trying to get BG&E2 going for a few years now with no success. I really doubt it will ever happen.
And the game is an Ubisoft game, so it probably will not be exclusive to one system. |
