Opening a GBA SP - dirty screen :(

I bought a GBA SP today, for $50, works great, except the screen has a few white specks on the inside, like dust got inside the screen somehow. Does anybody know of a way for me to open it and clean it?

I wouldn't recommend, send it back to Nintendo, they'll clean it.

$50 seems like a good price, where did you get it?

No no no, its a secret deal! :P

I was at Gamestop when somebody came in there with it to trade it in, so I asked them if they would sell it to me for whatever amount Gamestop was going to give them. Gamestop said they would get $60 credit, or $48 in cash, they wanted the cash, so I gave them $50. They ended up making an extra $2 and I got a Cobalt GBA SP for $50 .

Only downside was those little specks, but for the price I couldnt complain. Going to give Nintendo a call today, I assume Gideon meant "I would recommend..."

Wonder why they were bringing it in?

Nintendo is going to probably charge you to fix it, only thing you could probably do is a Best Buy buy, switch and return... Bu that is pretty shady.

I meant, I wouldn't recommend opening it and instead send it to Nintendo. Sorry, about not completing the sentence, it can cause some confusion. Just tell Nintendo you lost the receipt and see if they'll fix it for free.

I called up Nintendo today, the system is still under warranty. They have arranged for Fedex to come and pick it up tomorrow, at their expense. They said that I would get another unit back, it might be new or refurbished, they cant tell me for sure, but they did pretty me assure me I would get a replacement

Nintendo is REALLY good about their stuff, you should have no problems.

Nintendo has recently begun looking for a new provider of screens for the GBA's as Sharp has been producing an unacceptable amount of bad units. Sucks to be them.

Nintendo should never have signed on with Sharp to produce the LCDs for their GBAs. Sharp LCDs are sucky in quality, at least in the PC monitor segment. Nintendo should have signed Samsung to make them instead.

OK.

Well, in Nintendo's defense Sharp was the only one capable of producing the low power displays they wanted at the time. (At price X)

I sent my GBA SP in twice to Nintendo to remove those damn specks. The second time they finally fixed it but the stupid out sourced repair center scratched the cobalt casing. I got fed up and ebayed it and bought a gba player instead. It was the first time I ever bought a handheld from Nintendo and it will be the last time as well.

If you bought it new, you should have exchanged it at the store.

I exchanged GBA SP's 4 times all of them had the white specks and the store said I couldn't exchange any longer, so I dealt with Nintendo directly.

Nope all games showed the white specks in the exact same spots on the screen.

Are these white specks burnt out pixels or dust?

I thought you were talking about dust.

Is this something that happens over time or is it due to poor quality control.

Well, Fedex picked up the system on Monday, Nintendo received it Tuesday, and I got my replacement today, Thursday. That is some FAST service.
