Animal Crossing memory card issues

Recently I acquired both a Memory Card 251 and Animal Crossing. I transferred all of my old game files onto the 251, which I then placed in port A. I stuck the new Animal Crossing memory card in port B. I started to play the game, and now I've got a couple of days worth of work in my town.

At this point I realize that the game is not saving to the Animal Crossing memory card as I expected, but rather onto my 251, with all my other game files. This upset me, but I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, that I'd just move the file over to the memory card in port B.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the Cube won't let the Animal Crossing save game be transferred, so now I'm pissed. Anyone know anything that will help me out? I know I've only gotten a couple of days into the game, but I don't want to start over.

Animal crossing saves aren't transferrable. I might have read somewhere that you can swap the cards before the save, but you run the risk of losing your save this way.

My advice would be just to start another town on the other mem card. That way you a town to travel to.

I tried to swap the memory cards as you mentioned, but when I tried to save, I was told to reinsert the memory card with my town's data on it.

I really don't want to have to start over. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Try gamefaqs.com

That's where I go when I have a problem.

Why don't you just use the card provided? It holds everything you need. I've been playing since launch and never had a problem. When I go to friends towns I just bring the AC card w/me.

This is a huge flaw with the game, IMHO. It automatically saves to the Memory Card in Slot A without confirmation. A first party game like this should allow you to pick which card you want to use...but inexplictly it doesn't. If it makes you feel better, I did the EXACT same you did...and my original AC town is hogging up room on my 251. What's really odd is that it did read the card in B and I got my free gifts, so go figure.

Nintendo deliberately made it so that you can't copy your town, presumably to stifle cheating. I don't really have a problem with this...but WHY, OH WHY don't they allow you to MOVE your town? It makes no sense!

Anyway, the bottom line is that there's nothing you can do. You have three options:

1. Continue to play your 251 town.
2. Scrap the 251 town and begin again on another card.
3. Keep the 251 town as a secondary town to travel to, but make a new primary town on another card.

We have four memory cards in our family.

My 251 MC is only to be used by me. I'm not much of an AC fan. (There used to be a city on mine, but its gone now... I think it met the same fate as Atlantis).

My wife has a 59 MC to herself. She has her town (with two citizens) on hers. She also has the memory card that came with the game with another town.

My son has one of the niko x2 cards with his town on it.

Needless to say that my wife and son visit each others towns alot.

My wife though has something strange on her card... and I posted about this before. SHe has a present that she received that she can't open, move or throw away. So far, no one has any ideas on that problem.

AC is just a strange little game.

I believe you're referring to the present in the memory card 59 that came with Animal Crossing. My understanding is that this is what allows causes the first player to move into a town on this memory card to get the letter from Nintendo with the two NES games and a piece of furniture. This file takes up one block, the town data takes 57 blocks, and the NES save game files takes up one block, filling out the 59 block card.

Well, I just started a new town on my AC mem card. I'll save my other town to travel back and forth to eventually. So what benefits will I be able to get by travelling between towns? Do I need to keep loading my old character in the old town and bettering him, or do I just need another saved town, regardless of its quality? Also, what will I be able to and not be able to transfer to my new town?

Your character will still live in the original town. i don't think there's a way to move, though you can transfer any belongings from town to town.

When you move from town to town:
a) At least one animal from each town will move to the other
b) You can swap fruits (and other items, but fruits are a big draw...)
c) Nook's Cranny will only reach it's last stage as a store if someone from another town visits.
d) Sometimes on the train you'll meet a strange cat that asks you to draw it's face

Of course, you can also swap items using the passcodes.

This was a new town on a stock 59 card... my wife received the gift in the mail after about a month or so of playing that town, and the gift is just stuck... oh well.

Yeah, the benefits on having two (or more) towns is the fruit... and I loved making that cat's face into one large bloodshot eyeball!
