Is it me or is the onyx tower made just to either run like hell through it, or to take hours upon hours to beat it. I beat it with the archer and it was pretty fun. I'll have to try the coop mode and see how that is.

My first time through with the archer I thought the onyx tower was pretty tough, but when I played as the wizard, it was a piece of cake (see above, regarding level 5 ball lightning)

I've been playing this game a lot in the last couple weeks (also got in on the 9.99 deal from BB). I just entered the Onyx Tower as an Archer. Is the Onyx tower the last part? I was being fairly thrifty the whole game and not really spending much money on things. I have 100k gold saved up now and wondering if its all going to waste.

my general advice is save up and buy the most powerful weapon/armor you can from whomever sells it. don't hoard the money.

yeah, the onyx is the last part. But you can't recall out of it so empty your supplies because you pick up some good stuff.

Anybody have a walkthru for the Gauntlet? How many more sections past the part with the EXTRA large spiders? I keep playing too conservative and run out of time.

For the biggie things in the Gauntlet I drew one or two out at a time to kill them, went full speed otherwise.

If you finish the extreme mode, you can play as Drizzt, which is pretty cool.

BG2 comes out along with D&D Heroes in November. Should be 2 great games for fans of BG1. I read somewhere that the new console Fallout is essentially the same type of game too, although with the post-apocalyptic Fallout stuff, which sounds awesome.

There is a good faq on gamefaqs.com with the Gauntlet walkthru... My suggestion is that you fight pretty fast except for certain guys, like those big spiders (you should be able to take 2/3 smalls ones at once), the burly monsters, and the last guy. The rest of the time, you just dance around them and hit their flanks as fast as possible. I finished the Gauntlet with about 40 seconds left.... And I left a ton of potions behind (especially the last 2 rooms).

I am no expert or anything, I got on a roll last night and made it through, hehe.

Before I buy this title...

Does the game support system link for two-player gaming? Or is it just the same screen?

After playing this game and going on to the Onimusha 2 is really tough with it's Capcom tank-like controls and limited camera angles. Why can't all games control as well as BGA? Hopefully the next game will have internet play. That would be a hoot.

Don't hoard your money. You won't need it in the Onyx Tower anyways since you can't recall out of there. You'll get lots of great weapons and armor in the Onyx tower but you'll just have to pick it up and drop the lower level stuff. You can't carry it all.

Definitely spend your money on the best weapons you can. A good bow (Darkwood Frost Short bow) in the hands of the archer is the way to go.

Damn, now I want to go get the game again (sold it after beating it for the PS2 last year.)

Loved the breaking-box effect. I swear every one I kicked broke a little differently.

Weapons? Depends on who your playing as.

Full Plate Armor (don't bother with chain mail (sp?) armor). If you can, go from padded to scale to full plate. Try to get the much lighter Elven full plate armor.

Check out gamefaqs.com. There's a good list of weapons/armor/items, where/when they become available and their respective value and strengths.

Yeah the worst thing about the game is that it's pretty short. Although it has great replay value. I can't wait for BG2.

I've beaten the game in about 3 hours just to see how fast you can get from the beginning to the end, but you leave many stones unturned.

As the archer, I went from padded to scale armor (if you can get scale before the catacombs....it'll help a lot.) Then grabbed up Elven Chain mail and stuck with that until I found Plate armor in the Onyx tower.

Weapons: I picked up the Darkwood Frost short bow ASAP and had the sword and shield combo going. The Mithril Elven Scimitar worked well with the Sorceress. I spent the big money on the Great aword of Speed, then theFlaming burst Adamantine Great sword Defender +5 (in the swamp) and this carried me until I found a better one in the Onyx Tower. Just look at the damage it does and pick the best one you can lift. For Sorceress you definitely need the sword/shield combo to get far (plus she can't use two handed weapons)

how do you kill karne?

I'm a sorc, and 1 hit with the dagger does about 60% of my damage. I have mace + shield, burning hands, melfs arrow, and magic missile.

IIRC you block all of his attacks by guarding, then when he pauses between attacks hit him once or twice then go back to guarding. If you're lucky you may not be hit at all.

Plus blast away at him with the ranged magic. Keep shhoting him with Melf's and recharging with potions. if he gets close the satr blocking. He's got a pattern to his attacks (which I can't remember now). Watch for it and that will help too.

Maybe you've reached the limit? I think I remember that there's a limit. What number is it hung on?
